advances in the field of respiratory fungal diseases; clinicians seeking to<br />
update their knowledge on the management of immune suppressed or<br />
immune competent patients with endemic or opportunistic fungal pneumonia.<br />
Objectives<br />
At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:<br />
• learn new findings about the genetic defects and other immune factors that<br />
predispose the host to develop fungal pneumonia;<br />
• apply new knowledge about the molecular and cellular mechanisms that<br />
underlie the pathophysiology of fungal pneumonia;<br />
• diagnose and integrate new treatment options for fungal pneumonia.<br />
This session will provide attendees with a state of the art review of emerging<br />
scientific principles and clinically relevant advances that are pertinent to the<br />
understanding of invasive fungal infection of the respiratory system. Individual<br />
speakers will describe novel primary immune deficiencies that predispose certain<br />
individuals to fungal pneumonia as well as the systems biology approach to<br />
comprehensively understand fungal-host cell interactions. Recent insights molecular<br />
and cellular pathogenesis of endemic and opportunistic fungal pneumonias will then<br />
be considered. <strong>Final</strong>ly, the latest advances in clinical diagnostic strategies and<br />
therapeutic approaches for respiratory fungal diseases will be reviewed.<br />
