from the outside—more fun,
more beautiful, more
untamed and better. You
will be greeted by Rose, a
free­spirit with a lot of
spunk. If you ask, she’ll tell
you that she has clothing
from as far back as the 18th
century though the 1980’s
and ask if you need any
help, (also, the hats were
made by her). If you say no,
she’ll let you go to explore
the shop’s fantastical
collection of old memories.
I asked her once how this
world of hers she calls a
business came to be. She
told me that the store nearly
happened by itself—“I’m a
very carpe diem kind of
person” she said. She and
her husband Clayton run the
shop together with love,
bringing in clothes from all
over—“being vintage myself
I know a lot of these
fashions” she told me with a
laugh. I inquired about her
customers, as I imagined
that the people who entered
this store must be as
interesting as the clothes
they wish to inhabit. Rose
agreed, leaving me with
the impression that she
and Clayton got everything
from drag queens to
burlesque dancers and
college kids, to porn stars
to folks all the way from
New York. Within this
world she calls a
store,everyone is
welcome. “In here” she
said, “we practice
tolerance.”

website—or better yet, take a walk down and go experience these sewn fabrics of
individual expression in person. Clothing is a way to express one’s personality. Are
you an unique individual? Then be proud of it—dare to go a little off the path of
blended society, in fact, go ahead of it. Be your own rose, unafraid to bloom in the
overwhelming brightness of society, make people look twice, make them pause for
a second, and walk the world as who you truly are.
