Concept
The Kappa Trailer is a lightweight, high-speed, personal utility trailer
that can safely and easily be towed with any vehicle on the road
today.
With the modern trend of consumers toward smaller, more fuelefficient
vehicles, the need has been created for an alternative solution
for transporting loads safely and economically without risking
overloading these smaller vehicles. For example: a family can safely
travel to their destination in their compact vehicle, at normal highway
speeds, without compromising safety or comfort, by towing all their
luggage behind their vehicle.
Design
The trailers feature a 16-gauge, cold-rolled steel, 2-box design consisting
of a “Main box” compartment at the rear and a “Nose-cone”
compartment directly ahead of the main box. The chassis is fabricated
channel made from 11-gauge cold-rolled steel. The axle assembly
is a torsion-axle with 5-lug hubs on a 4 ½” PCD. The recessed tail
lights and flat rear end design facilitate vertical storage to minimize
footprint and save space. Available accessories include but are not
limited to: a spare wheel mounted under the nose-cone, a fold-away
jockey wheel, a fabricated steel rear wing-spoiler, an all-purpose
carrier that mounts on the main box lid, a cooler-box conversion with
drain plug for the nose-cone, custom color schemes and models with
a tailgate design are also planned for the future.
Main Box
The main box is a waterproof, rectangular-shape, the dimensions are
6’–0” long x 3’–0” wide and 1’–6” deep, with a 4” deep lid that is
hinged on the driver’s side and opens on the passenger (curb) side.
Lifting the lid is controlled/assisted by gas struts located at the hinge
side. 6 eyelets are located on the floor of the main box for securing
loads and preventing loads from shifting around during transport. The
top opening features a prominent lip that prevents water from entering
the compartment area.
Nose Cone
The nose-cone has a rhomboid shape with a sloping top side that is
angled down 5 degrees from the long (rear) side toward the short
(front) parallel side. The long parallel side measures 3’–0” and the
short side measures 2’–0” and they are 2’-0” apart. The nose-cone is
deepest (1’–3¾” deep) at the 3’-0” side with a lid that is hinged at the
3’-0” side and tilts upward to open. The top opening features a prominent
lip that prevents water from entering the compartment area.
Chassis
The chassis is fabricated from 11-gauge cold-rolled steel that is
formed into a channel measuring 2”(web) x 1 ½”(legs) and fully welded
at all connections. The channel sections are turned in a “toe-in”
configuration and a TS 2x2x11Ga square tube is welded to the front
for towing. A spare wheel mounting bracket under the front of the
Nose Cone. A jockey wheel is mounted at the front of the chassis.
The chassis is finished in a Black powder coat paint.
Miscellaneous
White is the standard color for all trailers with available paint options
in Black, Red, Yellow, Bright Silver and Graphite Silver. White steel
wheels are standard with similar paint color options as above.
