Contributors Ruven Afanador is an internationally renowned photographer of limitless imagination, powerful vision and profound sense of self. His extensive body of work has created an intensely personal language characterised by the balance of bold emotion and delicate nuance. The expressive images in his four books (Torero, Sombra, Mil Besos, Angel Gitano), portraiture, and fashion editorials reveal extravagant dreamlike Diego Merino was born in Madrid, where he graduated in film studies. While working on films and T.V. commercials as a camera assistant, he became fascinated by photography and began to assist leading Spanish photographers. In 1998 he moved to New York City, where he started working alongside renowned fashion photographer Tom Munro as his first assistant for three years. Thereafter, Merino Stuart’s freelance forays to date have seen his baroque prose grace the pages of all the major British broadsheets, as well as magazines including Monocle. Sir Michael Caine, Paulo Coelho, Dev Patel, Dame Vivienne Westwood, Amy Winehouse, Patricia Cornwell, Woody Allen and Lord Sugar have all been subject to his journalistic scrutiny. Ruven’s work has appeared in countless publications, including New York, Vanity Fair, The Hollywood Reporter, Vogue India, Billboard and The New Yorker. For this issue of The Rake, Ruven shot our cover star, Andrew Lincoln (page 72). established his own independent career.
