Opening Keynote
Every Four Years:
The 2016 Presidential Campaign
Doris Kearns Goodwin
Join your colleagues for a unique opening general session focused on national
leadership. “America’s historian-in-chief” Doris Kearns Goodwin, our keynote
speaker, examines the evolution in presidential campaign communication and
strategy - underscoring the constant focus on personal and professional exposure and
accountability that comes with a run for the White House. Goodwin entertains and
educates with stories of an exhausting and costly race that is dominated by the 24/7
news cycle, social media, pop culture and the rise of the Super PACs. Following the
keynote, two national leadership awards will be given. The Towers Pinnacle Award,
named in honor of Jan Towers, will be presented to an individual for their leadership
in ongoing advocacy activities that elevate and highlight NP contributions to health
care. The recipient of the Sharp Cutting Edge Award, named in honor of Nancy Sharp,
is awarded to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary service activities on
behalf of NPs.
Annual Membership Meeting
Join us as we premiere the AANP Annual Membership Meeting as part of the Opening
General Session. You will hear about the highlights made in 2015 by NPs and AANP
and be introduced to AANP board members. The prestigious national leadership
awards (The Towers Pinnacle Award and the Sharp Cutting Edge Award) will be
presented at this session. You will hear results of the latest AANP election. State award
recipients and new FAANP inductees will also be showcased. This is one event you will
not want to miss.
