June 2016 Local Town Pages www.franklintownnews.com Page 13 Summer Begins at Franklin Downtown Partnership’s Strawberry Stroll Start the Summer season off with friends and festivities at the Franklin Downtown Partnership’s 14 th annual Strawberry Stroll on Thursday, June 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Franklin. According to a Walsh Construction representative, the sidewalks on Main Street will be completed and construction crews will have finished for the day when the Dean Bank staff will begin dishing up fresh strawberry shortcakes. “Road construction is a fact of life this year, but we won’t let it get in the way of a good time. The Strawberry Stroll will be the perfect afternoon for everyone to come downtown and see for themselves the changes and improvements that are taking shape,” says Nicole Fortier, event chairperson. The Strawberry Stroll’s signature Famous Strawberry Shortcakes will be served up outside Dean Bank on Main Street. 160 quarts of ripe, juicy strawberries and nearly 700 shortcakes will be topped with dozens of cases of whipped cream that afternoon. Organizers expect to sell out of the sweet treat. More than 30 businesses and community groups will participate with sidewalk sales, giveaways, crafts, kids’ activities and face painting. Don’t miss the lemonade and cookies at the Franklin Historical Museum, which will open at 4 p.m. that afternoon. A list of participants and happenings will be available at the Stroll and on the FDP website and Facebook page. “Events like this Stroll are a good way to bring businesses and customers together and create more engagement,” says Beth Wierling, event co-chair. “Maybe a resident has followed a business on Facebook or visited its website. The Stroll could offer a chance to meet the shop owner or organization leader and have a conversation.” A variety of performers will entertain crowds all afternoon. Kevin Wolfe will perform at Pisini Shoes, and Music Odyssey Productions DJ Domenic Cotoia will play today’s hits in the Main Street parking lot next to Sponsorship Row.
