Our successful apprenticeship programme is a result of the outstanding links we have made with local employers and the recruitment of suitable apprentices. We are always looking for further businesses and employers to help us to continue developing this for the future. ‘I really enjoy my apprenticeship which I am doing with Redfern Travel in Bradford. I have learnt lots of new skills in College and in the workplace including developing my customer service skills. I enjoy the challenge of the work I am involved in at Redfern Travel as there is always something new to get involved in from booking business travel and hotels to day to day customer service. As an apprentice I can learn new skills and put them in to practice alongside achieving a qualification. Upon completion of my apprenticeship, Redfern Travel have offered me a full time job, which I believe is a result of my experience and training through the apprenticeship programme at Shipley College. I would recommend apprenticeships because they help develop skills and confidence which can then lead on to employment and qualifications to put on your CV for the future.’ MEGAN, 20 Company: Macmillan Cancer Support, Fundraising Support Centre. Qualification: Customer Service Level 2 ‘I first heard that Macmillan were looking for an apprentice from my aunt who currently works there. After recently moving to the area I was not sure what options were best for me and this I felt would be a good opportunity to gain essential customer service experience while working towards my Customer Service qualification. I really enjoy being able to use what I have learnt in College to help me to deliver outstanding customer service. I work with different teams of people who support me and help me. I deal with enquiries over the telephone and by email by responding to fundraising and event enquiries. Working for Macmillan has helped me develop my skills and learn about their organisation. I would like to continue my studies in Customer Service and hopefully look for employment in Macmillan or a similar organisation locally.’ 10 If you are an employer looking for an apprentice for your organisation, contact 01274 327307 or employers@shipley.ac.uk or visit www.shipley.ac.uk If you are interested in becoming an apprentice check out our vacancies on www.getmyfirstjob.co.uk – you can apply online or send your CV to cv@shipley.ac.uk or call the Apprenticeship Team on 01274 327307.
