SHORT LEISURE COURSES GARDENING FOR PLEASURE No fee reduction available This practical gardening course is ideal whether you are new to gardening, wanting a career change or interested in building on your current knowledge. You will develop the basic skills you need to complete a range of gardening activities and make your own garden look stunning. You cover the following topics: planning your spring garden, compost & compost making, friends & foes in the garden, digging your soil, testing your soil, how to fertilise your garden, planting out techniques & plant maintenance, plant propagation including taking cuttings & division of herbaceous perennials and cropping and harvesting both flowers & vegetables. You will cover horizontal surfaces to include paving, patios and decking looking at setting out, tools, equipment and construction skills. The practical work will be carried out on the grounds of Shipley College and within the College’s landscape construction unit. Shipley College is running a series of courses covering all the relevant legislation and codes of practice that regulate the safe use and application of pesticides. The modules are: Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) and Pesticide Applications - Handheld Sprayers (PA6). The course is assessed through both a practical and written examination. The practical exam will take place on the week after the course is completed.
