RUST magazine: ‘Trip of a lifetime’ is a much-overused phrase, but it can be correctly applied here. Madagascar is an incredible island and this moto-adventure was something special too – far more challenging and risky than perhaps even the organisers (Touratech) could have imagined. RUST was there, with our editor being the appointed writer to the tour. Never short on words, certainly not short on images either – here 
we are presenting a 60-page special edition to celebrate the United People 
of Adventure.

<strong>Touratech</strong>’s UPoA<br />

little more than small rafts <strong>of</strong> loose planks<br />

balanced on grassy islets, barely inches<br />

above the water, some were taller, longer<br />

crossings over significant areas <strong>of</strong> waterlogged<br />

land, or over rivers. But all were<br />

rotten, with vast gaping holes and fractured<br />

planks. And when wetted with a mix <strong>of</strong> rain<br />

and clay were ice-like. All needed prior<br />

inspection and a best attempt at repair<br />

before crossing. Some could then be ridden<br />

– a real test <strong>of</strong> nerve – others the bikes had<br />

to be pushed over – a much tougher, energysapping<br />

proposition. The crossings did not<br />

all go to plan, with wheels falling through<br />

holes, bikes going over the side on one or<br />

two occasions and plenty <strong>of</strong> dropped bikes,
