'Pink Fairy' raises 58 clips for SPCA
OUR very own 'Pink Fairy' Mike Webb has
raised a whopping R58 504,90 for the King
Williams Town SPCA.
This was done by way of the sale of puzzle
pieces, raffles, a whiskey auction and
donations.
Mike hit upon the idea of selling 500 puzzle
pieces of the SPCA staff at R100 apiece.
“The idea was a hit and the puzzle pieces
moved quite quickly to raise R50 000,' said
Mike.
The puzzle will be mounted and put up in
the SPCA office with a donor board next
to it bearing the name of all who donated.
SPCA chairperson Annette Rademeyer
said:” It was a unique idea and we are
grateful to Mike and all who bought puzzle
pieces,” she said.
The bottle of collectors Bells Extra Special
whiskey donated by Ian Myburg was
snapped up by Fiona Schreiber for R1 400.
“Thank you to Fiona who always supports
the SPCA,' said Mike.
Rademeyer said the KWT SPCA is
currently undergoing a very difficult time
financially and the money could not have
come at a better time.
'We are trying to pay off our drug bill with
Vetserve. The money that Mike raised has
been earmarked to fix and paint our
kennels – a job which is long overdue and
much needed.

A policeman had a perfect spot to watch for speeders, but was
not getting many. Then, he discovered the problem; a 10 year
old boy was standing up the road with a hand painted sign
which read, "SPEED TRAP AHEAD". The officer then found a
young accomplice down the road with a sign painted "TIPS"
and a bucket of change.

As your candidate counsellor
for this ward it is my privilege
and duty to move the DA
forward. I engage with all my
supporters and even those
who are not on my side.
Politics truly is a tough game.
Ultimately it is worthwhile
because at the end of the day,
it is us as a community that
grows and develops.
I grow my support basis using
many tools but at the end of
the day nothing beats
knocking on doors and
directly engaging with my
fellow citizens.
Not only is King abuzz with
support for the DA but the
surrounding villages. The
enthusiasm, good will and
indeed the support has been
over whelming.
On Saturday the 4th of June,
I launched an interim branch
in Ward 37 which comprises
KWT and the surrounding
areas. The launch took place
in a village called Tolofenyi
which is 3km outside of King.
The area is abuzz and people
are truly looking for change.
The first time I went there, I
was shocked to discover that
people where spending R25
to make a photocopy. R20
return trip to King and the
village and an additional R5
for the actual company.
To this end, I managed to get
a small photocopy machine
for the good people of the
village as to ease their burden.
I also handed over a
wheelchair to a disabled
gentleman. I wish I could do
more but as I mentioned in
my previous article, we start
small and eventually we can
make a big difference.
Setting up a branch is not an
easy task with the hiring of a
tent, the chairs, the food and
of course the actual program.
We had the local pastor start
the proceedings followed by
the singing of the national
anthem. My MC was Thando
Xothongo the dynamic
candidate counsellor from
ward 49 which comprises the
large area known as
Ndevana. I then gave the
crowd of around 50 people
and idea of who I was and
what I stand for. My main
guest speak was Sanele
Magaqa who is a member of
the Bhisho legislature. He
gave a sterling speech on
the party and how we can
move forward.
After handing out the
photocopier and the
wheelchair, lunch was
provided for everyone.
It is amazing to work at the
grassroots of political
organisations. In this case it
is literally the grass roots as
we are out there in the
villages on a daily basis.
The momentum is gaining
pace and I see it from the
villages all the way to houses
and business right here in
King. It will be a tough fight
but as Confucius said, “May
we live in interesting times.’

Lions complete project for Siyathemba Village destitute
“As Christmas was looming,
he told me that he has only
one wish for Santa Clause
and that is to bring him a
wheelchair which he reckoned
will add the gift of blessing
of mobility to his life.”
Qamba than went to the
newspapers a week before
Christmas and said she was
in cloud nine after the KWT
Lions Club heeded the call
for help and she accompanied
them to Matyephu when
the wheelchair and a food
parcel was donated.
Lion Russel Volker said they
were all touched by the plight
of the old man and decided to
make it one of their projects.
“During the first phase we
handed him the wheelchair
with a food parcel and we
promised him to build a ramp
which will make life so much
easy for him whenever he
wants to go to the toilet or
outside,” Volker said.
“We built the ramp and again
handed him a food parcel
today as promised, so I think
we have concluded our project
here and want to thank
the sponsors (Stutt Group,
Buildmore) and the King community
for always supporting
our fundraising initiatives.”
A tearful Matyemphu said:
“You good people have given
back my independency and
security and I will always treasure
this moment.”

A Project started at the end of
last year was successfully
completed by members of the
KWT Lions Club in Siyathemba
Village last Friday.
Patase Matyephu worked at
the mines in the Gauteng
province for many years, got
injured and returned home
about 10 years ago after he
realized he could not walk
anymore.
During an outreach programme
to the area in December
last year, the 67
years-old man’s plight was
taken into consideration by

Manager Sister Yoliswa
Qamba and her board chairperson
Desmond Coetzee
who promised to be sharing
his predicament to the community
at large.
Qamba said she was deeply
touched by the living conditions
of the old man in his
own home.
“He was all by himself, crawling
on the floor of his two
bedroomed house and it was
hard for me to keep my tears
from rolling as I examined
him,” Qamba said.

IN June 1996 Sparkrite Auto
Electrical opened its doors in
King Williams Town with the
business located in Buffalo Road
growing from strength to
strength over the years.
Owner Kevin Schreiber studied
at Dale College where his
interest in electronics began at a
young age.
After completing his schooling
he took up a position at King
Enterprises as an apprentice auto
electrician in 1978 under the
wings of Stan Bauer.
Kevin qualified in 1984 and
continued to work at King
Enterprises until 1996, homing
his skills along the way.
When Kevin saw a gap for
another auto electrical business
in town he jumped at the
opportunity and Sparkrite became
a reality along with Fiona
Schreiber.
Kevin says:” It has been a long
and hard road with lots of ups
and downs but well worth
it...with our dedicated staff a big
advantage.
'Some of the staff who were at
the opening of the business are
still with us today....that's loyalty,'
he says.
Sparkrite started out with two
staff members but as the business
has grown over the years
and this has increased to
ten...four of which are senior
technicians.
The business specialises in
starters, alternators, and vehicle
electronics....and added to this
is that Sparkrite keeps up with
modern technology so they can
offer the best service.

Happy Ending for Duiker
Peppers Stuffed with Spicy Mince
Ingredients
8 - 12 long, thin sweet peppers
10 ml cumin seeds, coarsely crushed
15 ml coriander seeds, coarsely crushed
30 ml olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
400 g lean beef mince
1 – 4 green chillies, seeded and finally
chopped
2 – 4 garlic cloves, finely chopped
45 ml tomato paste
375 ml prepared beef stock
salt, milled black pepper and sugar to
taste
250 ml grated mature cheddar cheese
65 ml finally chopped coriander or parsley
leaves
Method
Cut the tops off the sweet peppers and
remove any seeds and ribs inside. Drop
the peppers into a large saucepan of

simmering water and cook for 2 minutes
to soften them a bit. Drain, pat dry and set
aside.
Place the cumin and coriander seeds into
a heated frying pan and toast the seeds
until aromatic. Add the oil and onion and
sauté until the onion is translucent. Add
the beef and fry until lightly browned then
stir in the chillies, garlic, tomato paste and
250 ml of the stock. Season to taste, then
simmer for ten minutes. Increase the heat
and allow to cook rapidly until the mixture
is fairly dry. Remove from heat and allow
to cool completely.
To serve, stir the cheese and herbs into
the meat mixture and push the mixture
into the peppers. Place them in a single
layer in a baking tray and pour over the
remaining 125 ml beef stock.
Bake in the oven preheated to 190 ºC for
15 minutes or until piping hot and golden.
Remove from the oven and serve.

Breidbach Primary donates to KWTCYCC
THE Breidbach Primary school
(BPS) brought an abundance of
smiles, laughter and excitement
after handing over much needed
items to the King William’s Town
Child and Youth Care Centre
(KWTCYCC) on Tuesday.
BPS head Ivan Harry and some of
his staff members made a surprise
visit to the centre and
blessed them with perishable and
non-perishable items such samp,
beans, rice, vegetables, fruit and
clothing as well as shoes.
Harry said they reacted after an
outcry for assistance by the KWT-
CYCC in the Bugle recently.
“We are a struggling school situated
in a poor community but it
touched our hearts when we
learnt about the plight and challenges
faced by the centre,” Harry
said.
“We threw the ball in the court of
the community and were carried
away with the overwhelming support
when parents sent their kids
with items to school.”

Nurses Association.
During the handing over, centre
housekeeper secretary Wendy
Linde said she loved what the
retired nurses are doing and
was grateful as it will definitely
help in many ways.
“This is not the first time that the
Nightingales have come to our
aid and we just love the generous
support we are getting from
them,” concluded Linde.
The centre offers a range of
services including residential
care, Phand’ulwazi Life centre
and Isibindi project and they are
assisting more than 100 children,
who have been removed
from their homes through statutory
processes.
The centre is a registered nonprofit
organization whose aim is
to render services to vulnerable
and needy youth or children
within the Eastern Cape province.

Amadoda’s fairytale season continues
were only 2 points adrift with
8 minutes of play remaining.
From the restart, Amadoda
went into overdrive. Grey
were clearly starting to feel
the pressure and began
conceding a string of
penalties as a result.
Dale soon found themselves
back in the Grey 22m area
and were completely
relentless on attack.
Eventually, in the 77th
minute, prop Lunathi Fonte
scored the decisive try near
the uprights and
Dlongodlongo added yet
another conversion to put
Dale into a 26-21 lead.
Grey had one final
opportunity to snatch the
game away from Dale, but it
was not to be. As the final
whistle sounded, the
massive contingent of Dale
supporters flooded the field
to celebrate the win.
A win which Dale College had
not enjoyed in PE since 1994.
Amadoda host Cambridge
this coming weekend in the
final game of the term.

THE Dale College first XV
travelled to Port Elizabeth this
past weekend to take on
Grey PE in a highly
anticipated clash.
The match went right down to
the wire, and in the end, it
was the brave Amadoda that
prevailed by 26 points to 21.
The win makes Dale the only
unbeated 1st team side in the
Eastern Cape to date.
Dale had the first opportunity
to put points on the board
from a penalty that was 40m
out from the Grey posts.
Dale flyhalf Siphosethu
Dlongodlongo’s well struck
kick, into a stiff breeze, was
agonisingly close and hit the
crossbar.
Grey PE scored the first try of
the match in the 7th minute
after their flyhlaf picked up a
loose pass by Dale and ran
all of 40m to score under the
posts for a 7-0 lead after
13min.
Dale hit back in the 20min
with a try of their own, scored
by Siphamandla Mansinya in
the right hand corner of the
field, this after some good
work from the backs.
As the halftime break
approached, Dale continued
to fight their way back into
the match and took the lead
for the first time.
After sustained pressure in
the Grey 22m area and
several neat offloads,
scrumhalf Sinesipho
Dlongodlongo darted over
for a try which his brother
Siphosethu converted.
Subsequently, Dale went into
the break 12-7 up.
Grey came back strongly at
the start of the second spell
and regained the lead after
43min of play after a
converted try by their right
wing, which took the score to
14-12 in favour of the hosts.
Grey extended their lead
even further in the 53rd
minute after a lineout drive
resulted in another
converted try and looked to
be almost out of Dale’s reach
at 21-12 up.
But if there is one thing that
everyone knows about the
Dale College first XV of 2016,
it is that they simply refuse to
give up.
With 10minutes left on the
clock, Dale worked their way
back into the Grey 22m and
after a number of phases,
wing Litha Ncula barged his
way over to score.

New Parkrun Record set !!
SIZWE Ngqoba set a new
Parkrun record on Saturday
finishing in a time of
18.22....this was nearly a minute
faster than the previous record.
'A fantastic effort . In fact the top
3 runners all beat the previous
record time,' said Parkrun organiser
Mike Webb .
'It is clear that our regulars are
getting fitter and enjoying the
cooler weather to run in.'
The ladies record set by Caroline
Woestmann at the launch still
stands.
Caroline came in second at
Comrades this year and I am
sure that all who that met her at
the launch were cheering for her
while she was battling with
cramps during the race .A truly
remarkable lady .
'A very encouraging statistic
from our Parkrun is that only a
handful of runners now do not
have barcodes which makes it a
pleasure for the volunteers and
really nice for the runners
themselves who can see their
progress on a weekly basis. Well
