‘Highway Delite’ App has
everything you Need for a
Fun Road Trip
Road trips are fun: You choose
your own music, fellow travellers
(or none), and snacks as you
cruise on the highway. What’s
not to love? But then, someone
has to go to the loo, is hungry, or
has motion sickness. You have
no option but to keep driving,
hoping you find a pit stop soon.
That’s where ‘Highway Delite’, a
mobile application comes in.
The brainchild of Bengaluru-based
travel buff Rajesh
Ghatanatti, the app provides
information on the nearest petrol
pumps, restaurants, lodges,
hotels, emergency contacts and
even clean toilets on popular
travel routes mostly in the five
southern states. Up North, only
the Indore-Ujjain and Delhi-Agra
roads have been covered so far,
and temporary establishments
aren’t on the app.
“I come from a defence background,
so I’ve always liked to
travel,” says the 33-year-old former
consultant. The problems
he faced on frequent work trips
combined with his love for travelling
led him develop Highway
Delite.
He quit his job last March to
concentrate completely on his
venture. Rajesh extensively travelled
along NH4 and NH7 which
connect Mysuru, Belagavi and
Hyderabad to make his preliminary
assessments.
HSR Residents Resist
Commercialisation
They are agitated over the
mushrooming of PGs and Eateries
in the colony that is forcing
them to compromise on the
comforts of living in a residential
area.
Residents of HSR Layout are
up in arms against civic authorities
and elected representatives
these days. They are agitated
over the unbridled commercialisation
in their colony that is forcing
them to compromise on the
comforts of living in a residential
area.
Recently, residents of 17th B
Main, Sector 4 complained to the
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara-
Palike (BBMP) joint commissioner
seeking cancellation of
trade licence to a restaurant that
was to come up in the area. Following
stiff opposition, authorities
decided not to issue licence
to the restaurant.
The owner of a PG accommodation,
which itself has reportedly
violated building bylaws
blatantly, had rented out space
for the restaurant. The building
owners tried to influence residents
to let the restaurant come
up in the area, but the residents
did not yield.
Bengaluru Girl stands 3rd
after revaluation
New toppers are coming up
not just in Pre-University courses
after the revaluation but also
in Secondary School Leaving
Certificate (SSLC).
A girl from a Bengaluru-based
private school has now become
one of the third rankers in the
SSLC exams held during April
2016 for which the results were
out a month ago.
Tanvi Deshpande, a student
of VVS Sardar Patel High School,
is now ranked third in the state
with an increase of four marks
in her English paper after revaluation.
She shares the third spot
with 11 other students.
Tanvi said she had applied
for revaluation after being persuaded
by the school authorities.
“There were no State toppers in
my school this year in SSLC. My
teachers were confident that I
would score more.” she said.
On Saturday, she learnt
she had secured 623 marks as
against her earlier 619 and was
ecstatic. She hopes that evaluators
would carefully compare answer
keys with the answer script
so that it would avoid stressful
moments for students.
Restaurant Shut Down
for Serving Idli with Dead
Centipede
The department for Food Safety
has shut down the eating joint and have
booked the owner for negligence.
A 6-year-old girl from south Bangalore
had to undergo a stomach wash as
the idli she ate had a centipede in it.
The child suddenly fell ill and that’s
when the mother noticed the dead centipede
in the food.
The place from where the food was
bought was a small restaurant in JP
Nagar in Bangalore.
The department for Food Safety
International Yoga
across the country with
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi leading the celebrations
in Chandigarh
while several ministers
participated in other
states. Addressing a
gathering of yoga enthusiasts,
the prime minister
said a public movement
should be started
through yoga to address
the problem of diabetes
in our country. It was
witnessed that several
political parties united
together in different
states to celebrate International
yoga day. In
Mysuru , Backed by the
Department of Ayush
Though the palace was
the focal point and saw
the single largest gathering
of yoga practitioners
in the city, the event was
also observed by scores
of institutions spread
across Mysuru and will
continue through the
has spanned a veritable
industry besides propagating
different forms of
CM’S DECISION INDIGESTIBLE:
AMBAREESH
Deputy speaker rejected
the resignation letter
of M H Ambareesh submitted
by his PA. Due to
the rejection, the former
minister himself was
ready to submit the resignation
letter personally
to CM.
M H Ambareesh said to
the reporters “I will go to
CM personally and submit
the resignation letter.”“Why
should I remain
even as a MLA, when I was
dubbed as an inefficient
minister?’ he questioned.
Ambareesh who was
dropped from the Cabinet
is reportedly miffed with
Chief Minister and told
that the CM should have
spoken to the ministers
whom he was going to
drop.
“The CM should have a
little bit of dignity. I would
have resigned on my own
if he had requested me to
make way for others. He
should have spoken to us
and treated us with respect,”
he said.
“I am pained by the
Chief Minister’s decision.
I will not hold any talk
with him,” he added.
Ambareesh denied actress
turned politician
Ramya’s role in his removal
as a minister as a few
channels had highlighted
the news yesterday.
Ambareesh was housing
minister in the cabinet
and there was speculation
for days that he
would be among those
who would be dropped
from the ministry. There
had been criticism of his
performance in his ministerial
role. Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah reshuffled
his cabinet on June 19,
with 13 new ministers
sworn in and 14 dropped.
of Karnataka
Dr Rajkumar Khatri
is transferred as Commissioner,
Bengaluru
Development Authority
in place of Mr Sham
Bhatt.
Sham Bhatt held
charge as BDA commissioner
for almost four
years from August 2012.
He is all set to retire by
the year-end. The remodification
scheme of
Arkavathy Layout that
ran into troubled waters
in the midst of allegations
of widespread corruption
was one of the
biggest controversies of
the BDA during his stint
as commissioner. The
issue is presently being
probed by the one-man
judicial inquiry commission
led by H.S. Kempanna.
While the state government
has recommended
Mr. Bhatt’s
name for the KPSC
chairperson’s post, the
Governor returned the
file seeking certain clarifications.
The Governor
had also sought a
report from Lokayukta
on complaints and cases
pending against Mr.
Bhatt. The report revealed
that there are 18
complaints against him
pending inquiry and action
was recommended
by Lokayukta against
him in two earlier cases.
However, the government
has taken no action
against him in either of
the cases.
ACTRESS RAMYA TO GET CABINET RANK
A clear direction has
been passed on to the
state Congress by the
Vice President, Rahul
Gandhi to make Kannada
actor, former M P
from Mandya, Ramya
as MLC thus facilitating
her induction to the
cabinet berth. “Rahul
Gandhi has instructed
the Chief Minister (CM)
of Karnataka Siddaramaiah
to elevate Ramya
to the minister post.”
This move comes after
actor-turned-politcian
Ambareesh dropped
from Karnataka cabinet,
a strong representative
of Mandya and Vokkaliga
community, sources
revealed. Rahul Gandhi
who was accompanied
by Ramya and CM Siddaramaiah,
engaged in conversation
with children
of farmers during his
visit to Mandya distirct
in October 2015 Political
rumble between Ramya
alias Divya Spandana. In
2014 general elections
Ramya lost her Member
Parliament seat to JD(S)’
CS Puttaraju.
Given the proximity of
Ramya to Congress Vice
President Rahul Gandhi,
speculation is rife Ramya
influenced ouster of Ambareesh.
The tall Sandalwood
actor has now sent
out his resignation (not
accepted yet) for MLA
post in an act of threating
the party. His resignation
certainly has an
impact on the Mandya
belt of the party.
For a cabinet post that
is strategically kept vacant
after appointment
of 13 ministers to the
state, Ramya’s name is at
the top. It is kept vacant
after Ramya allegedly
lobbied with the High
Command for the same.
But Ramya this time
around is hell bent on
achieving a coveted
berth. After her loss in
2014, for over 2 years
she was politically inactive
in terms of position.
Ramya’s close acquaintance
with Gandhi family
has given the wings to
her dreams.
Ramya too served in
Mandya and she hails
from Vokkaliga community.
Rahul, day before
the cabinet reshuffle, has
directed the CM to make
Ramya MLC and then induct
her to state cabinet,
sources divulged.
MAN ARRESTED FOR KILLING MOTHER-IN-LAW
City police have arrested
a man for killing his
mother-in-law on 18th
June in Basavangudi residential
area. The man
killed his mother-in-law
for casting the superstitious
act on his family.
Afzal Ahmed and his
wife Syed Unisa (54)
were living in the Basavangudi
residential area
in Bengaluru. On 18th
June, Azal Ahmed went
for his daily work in the
city and his wife Syed
Unisa was alone at home.
When Afzal returned
from his work, he found
the door locked. There
was no response for his
knock at the door from
inside. He opened the
door with his spare key
and to his shock he saw
his wife in the pool of
blood. Her face was completely
disfigured. The
culprit has used knife to
kill her.
She was found dead in
the locked house. Then
Afzal Ahmed complained
the police regarding the
incident. After the investigation
the police
arrested his own son-inlaw,
Mohemmad-Aakhir-Ur-Rahman
Bin-Muhammad
Raffique on
Monday.
The investigation tells
that the man made a duplicate
key of the house
long back. On 18th June
he came to the house and
killed Syed Unisa (54).
Leaving her dead in the
house he locked the door
using the duplicate key.
Enquiring about the
reason behind the crime
the culprit said that she
was making some superstitious
act against his
family. He had to kill her
to stop that.

Flyovers in Bengaluru a
Boon or Bane?
As Bengaluru’s traffic woes
burgeon, the Karnataka government’s
most recent solution to
the problem is the decision to
build yet another elevated road
in the city, this time one of the
longest in Asia, a 6.7 km long
steel flyover from Hebbal to Chalukya
circle.
But even a brief look at studies
of traffic in Bengaluru, such
as the ‘Volume-Capacity Study
on Flyovers of Bengaluru’, shows
that vehicle density on the roads
has increased by 8%-10% and
traffic speeds have dropped by
between 5-20 km per hour between
2015 and 2016.
What’s more, the study found
that not only are the existing
flyovers overburdened, but they
haven’t been able to solve the
congestion problem either.
On June 19, when the Father’s
Day frenzy exploded on social
media, it was easy to believe for
the moment that the world was a
collection of a zillion happy families,
and nothing else. But, as always,
what went unnoticed was
the dark side of the celebrations -
a dagger to the heart of dads who
couldn’t be with their children
over circumstances they had little
control over.
Media spoke to three such
fathers, who mostly spent their
day riffling through old photographs
of their children they
couldn’t meet. One had not seen
his daughter in six years, another
counted himself lucky for
being allowed an hour to see his
13-year-old twins.
Ravi Kiran (40), a businessman
settled in London, married
Sunitha in 2005 and the couple
had a girl. By 2010, however,
their differences had become
non-negotiable and Sunitha
came back to India with the
baby. Ravi faced several charges,
including dowry harassment.
Eventually, legal commitments
compelled him to move to Bengaluru.
Yoga, A Practice that
Re-discovers Self
This International Yoga Day,
Yogis would be happy to see their
toil finally finding the light of the
day. Half a decade ago, people
were averse to the idea of Yoga
and had little or no confidence of
its healing powers. Things, however,
have changed with time and
so have ideas. People not only in
India, but worldwide understand
its importance now and how
beneficial is it for the mind and
the body.
Nevertheless, it picked up as
a trend in India last year when
PM NarendraModi himself led a
team of Yoga practitioners at India
Gate to promote the practice.
However, there is a large pocket
in the country that now understands
what Yoga can do their
psyche and health.
Visit any Yoga Center and
you would know what we mean.
From software engineers to
homemakers, everyone wants
a break from everyday life and
think about the self. “It is a practice
that re-discovers the self. It
calms the mind and keeps you
fit,” says Nayantara, a journalist
by profession and a Yoga practitioner.
STATE GOVERNMENT APOLOGISES TO HC
The State government
which had earlier claimed
that no grace marks were
awarded to II PU Mathematics
students tendered
an unconditional written
apology to the High Court
on Monday, for misleading
the court by making
wrong submission. On
behalf of the state government,
state advocate general,
Madhusudan R Naik,
tendered unconditional
apology to the state high
court for falsely telling the
court earlier that grace
marks had not been allotted
to second PU students
in mathematics subject in
the examinations held this
year. Moodbidri-based Bhuvana
Jyothi Education Trust
had filed public interest
litigation in the state high
court, questioning the government’s
action in allotting
grace marks for certain
questions in mathematics
paper. During the hearing,
advocates representing the
government and PU department
had asserted that
grace marks had not been
given to students as it was
found that none of the questions
were out of syllabus to
qualify for grace marks. The
litigant trust thereafter verified
this claim of the
government advocates
by securing copies of
answer sheet of students.
It came to know
that grace marks had
indeed been given for
certain questions, even
when only question
numbers were mentioned
by students.
Therefore, the trust had
approached the high court
again with this information.
The court was hearing an
interlocutory application
for recalling its earlier order
dismissing a PIL against
award of grace marks. Chief
Justice S K Mukherjee and
Justice Ravi Malimath said
that no irresponsible submissions
should be made
in court without proper
instructions from the government.
The PIL was filed
by Bhuvanjyothi Education
Trust, a CBSE school located
in Dakshina Kannada
district saying, the awarding
grace marks would
adversely affect the CET
rankings of students who
have completed the course
under CBSE syllabus.
During the hearing, the
advocates representing the
government and PU department
had asserted that
grace marks had not been
given to students as it was
found that none of the questions
were out of syllabus to
qualify for grace marks.
The litigant in the proceedings
then verified the
claim by securing copies of
answer sheet of students.
It proved the
fact that grace marks
had been awarded
for question where
the students had just
mentioned the question
numbers instead
of answers. The High
Court served notice on
the State government and
PU department for which
an unconditional apology
was tendered by the State
government. Bhuvanjyothi
Education Trust, a CBSE
school located in Dakshina
Kannada district, had filed
the PIL challenging the decision
to award grace marks
to students who appeared
for the IIPUC examination.
The petitioner said
awarding grace marks
would adversely affect the
CET rankings of students
who have completed the
course under CBSE syllabus.
The petitioner sought
the court’s direction to
consider only CET marks.
Department of Pre-University
Education director Ramegowda,
in his affidavit,
said the expert committee
report stated that no questions
were out of syllabus.
Hence, It was decided
not to grant any grace
marks. A subsequent meeting
of chief examiners and
deputy chief examiners on
April 20 favoured “liberal
valuation” in respect of
seven questions. The decision,
however, was not
communicated to the PU
director.
A 28-year old man lost five
of his fingers when a small
country-bomb he was using
to catch fish from a river exploded
before he could throw
it, police said on Tuesday.
Suresh and his cousin of Vaniputhur
village in Gobichettipalayam
taluk were fishing
in nearby Bhavani river using
small sized country-bombs
when the mishap occurred.
As Suresh tried to throw a
bomb into the river after
lighting its wick, it exploded
in his hand. All the five fingers
on his right hand were blown
away under the impact of the
explosion and he suffered
burns at various places of his
body, police said. He had been
admitted to a private hospital
at Gobichettipalayam, Police
said they had registered a
case and were investigating
from where the duo procured
the bombs. Use of bombs in
fishing is rampant in several
areas, especially coastal regions
and police had made
seizures of the explosives in
the past.
PM MODI CALLS ON THE WORLD TO
EMBRACE YOGA AS PART OF DAILY LIFE
Calling on the world
to embrace Yoga as a
discipline in everyday
life, Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, on the occasion
of the International
Yoga Day on Tuesday,
asserted that the ancient
Indian art was the most
selfless of its kind, as it
did not discriminate, did
not ask for much, but
simply functioned for
the betterment of mankind
and brought every
society together.
Speaking on the occasion
with a mass gathering
of almost 10,000
people, the Prime Minister
said that he had proposed
June 21st as the
Lt Governor Kiran Bedi
led participants at a mass
yoga demonstration on
the occasion of International
Yoga Day on Tuesday.
She joined around
6,000 school and college
students, officials and NCC
volunteers and performed
as many as 40 different
asanas lasting nearly 90
minutes from 6.30 AM on
the Beach Road...
Chief Minister
V.Narayanasamy and his
ministerial colleagues,
who were scheduled to
participate in the yoga day
ideal day for Yoga Day
celebrations because in
many parts of the world,
this day is quite long and
is closer to the earth.
has garnered massive
support from across the
world, Prime Minister
Modi said that there is
no other event which
matches the global popularity
of this day.
“The United Nations
observes several occasions
but no other
movement has become
a global movement like
Yoga Day. No other event
is able to match the popularity
of Yoga Day. This
way.
The mega mass yoga
demonstration organised
at Connaught Place
witnessed huge participation
of people from
all walks of life. They
performed different postures
selfless of its kind, as it
did not discriminate, did
not ask for much, but
proves the power of the
legacy by our ancestors,”
he said.
Further asserting that
some people do not understand
the science
behind Yoga, the Prime
Minister said that Yoga
is not a religious practice
and was the path to
salvation, adding that it
provides health insurance
for zero budget.
“Yoga is for the believer
and non-believer as
well. It does not differentiate
between the rich
and poor or the literate
and illiterate. Just like
the cell phone has become
a part of your daily
simply functioned for
the betterment of mankind
and brought every
society together.
Urban Development
Naidu, who participated
in the yoga event at the
venue, said that Yoga
is becoming popular
across the globe as it increases
the city including Nehru
The Prime Minister
also said that it needs
to be ensured that while
Yoga spreads across the
globe as a popular practice,
its sanctity is maintained,
adding that it
must not be dragged into
any controversies either.
Talking about Yoga
as a roaring business
success, he said that
the form was gaining
popularity as a major
business and profession
as well and that the demand
for Yoga trainers
across the globe was
growing every day.
“Let’s focus on one
BITTERSWEET MONSOON FOR
MUMBAIKARS AS RAINS BRING TRAFFIC WOES
With the monsoon
well on its way, Mumbaikars
are now playing
host the city’s
usual traffic woes as
water-logging and
power outages are
dampening the respite
the rains have brought.
With local train service,
which is called as
the lifeline of the ‘business
capital’, severely
affected because of
heavy rains, people
of Mumbai have been
forced to face a lot of
difficulties.
The Western Railway
of the Mumbai
suburban network
came to a halt after
someone stole a battery
box at the Mahim
Electric Sub Station.
Adding to the woes,
auto rickshaws and
taxis have decided to
go on a strike opposing
Ola and Uber Taxi
services.
But this is not the
first time that Mumbaikars
are facing this
trouble as every monsoon,
railway services
in the city gets disrupted
due to water
logging on the tracks
which lead to signal
failures. Consequently,
lakhs of commuters
are affected.
Every year, the railways
take several precautions
to prevent
by working on Signalling
and Telecommunication
(S&T) and
Civil works, but the
incidents of signal failures
occur proving the
railways claims to be
wrong.
Central Railway PRO
AK Jain told the media
that they are keeping
their focus primarily
on Suburban network
now as it is working
day todayand rush
hour is to begin soon.
The PRO also informed
that they
reviewed the rain
situation prevailing
in the city following
heavy rains and problems
related to water
logging at the disaster
management room
and assured that his
Sindh CJ’s son
abducted in Pakistan
The son of the Chief Justice
of Sindh High Court has
been abducted by unidentified
armed men in Pakistan’s
largest city and economic hub
and police have detained five
persons in this connection.
Ovais Sajjad Shah, himself
an advocate, was apparently
abducted by armed men from
outside a popular shopping
mart in the posh Clifton area
on Monday.
Ovais, the son of Chief Justice
Sajjad Ali Shah, had just
come out of the mart when
four armed men wearing
peak caps emerged from a
white car with a green number
plate and forcibly took
him away. Green number
plates are reserved for government
vehicles.
DIG Police District South,
Munir Ahmed Sheikh told
the media that Ovais went
missing after he left the Sindh
High Court in the afternoon to
meet a friend in Clifton.
“We are looking at the
CCTV cameras in the Clifton
area to ascertain what happened.
But he apparently
stopped over at the shopping
mart,” Sheikh said. PTI
Dozens of passengers
abducted by militants
in Afghanistan
Armed militants have abducted
dozens of passengers
in the Helmand Province
of southern Afghanistan on
Tuesday.
Local officials stated that
a number of unknown gunmen
abducted dozens of passengers
on Kabul-Kandahar
Highway.
The passengers were
stopped in Mahajer Bazaar
area in Gereshk district in
the province and then were
transferred to an unknown location,
Provincial Police Chief,
Aqa Noor Kentozai, said.
This comes after Taliban
abducted more than 200 passengers
on Baghlan-Kunduz
Highway two weeks ago.
Kabul attack: Nepal Govt.
making arrangements to
bring bodies back home
(ANI)
Informing Members of Parliament
that 14 Nepalis were
killed in the suicide attack in
Afghan capital Kabul, Kamal
Thapa, the Deputy Prime Minister
and Minister of Foreign
Affairs said that the government
is making arrangements
to bring the bodies back.
The Ministry of Foreign
Affairs (MoFA) has, however,
confirmed only 12 names of
those killed in the attack.
A Taliban suicide bomber
on Monday attacked a minibus
carrying the Nepali workers
who were on their way to
the Canadian Embassy in Kabul
where they work.
Condemning the attack
as a crime against humanity,
Thapa said diplomatic efforts
have been stepped up to bring
the bodies back and ensure
that the injured get proper
treatment.
Hyderabad Fund Case: UK
court rejects India’s bid to
strike out Pakistan’s 35 m
pound claim
A high court in the United
Kingdom yesterday rejected
India’s attempt to strike out
Pakistan’s claim to the Hyderabad
Fund.
The Pakistan Foreign Office
in its official release said
that the 75-page judgment of
Mr. Justice Henderson J. was
a clear vindication of Islamabad’s
principled stance, and
added that an effective legal
strategy was being pursued
by the new legal team.
According to the release,
India had failed to persuade
the court that Islamabad’s
position was untenable and
that it could show no legal
entitlement to the 35 million
GBP sitting in a bank account
in the name of the High Commissioner
of Pakistan, since
September 20, 1948.
TRUMP’S ADVISER RESIGNS AFTER
MOCKING FIRED CAMPAIGN MANAGER
Michael Caputo, an adviser
to Donald Trump,
resigned after he tweeted
mocking the justfired
campaign manager
Corey Lewandowski.
Caputo tweeted “Ding
Dong the witch is dead”
following the news that
Lewandowski had been
fired.
“I regret sending out
a tweet today alluding
to the firing of Corey
Lewandowski. In hindsight,
that was too exuberant
a reaction to this
personnel move. I know
this is a distraction from
the kind of campaign
you want to run, so I’m
resigning from my position
as director of communications
for caucus
operations at the 2016
Republican National
Convention. Let’s make
this immediate,” Caputo
wrote in a letter.
Caputo later told that
falling on the sword is
what you do if you mess
up. Unforced errors have
no place on a general
election campaign for
the White House.
Earlier, Trump fired
his controversial campaign
manager Corey
Lewandowski, unleashing
a major shake-up.
Ivanka Trump, the
candidate’s daughter,
played a pivotal role in
convincing Trump to
take action against Lewandowski.
She had
been critical of Lewandowski
for months and
this was not the first
time that she had leaned
on her father to part
ways with his top aide.
“The Donald J. Trump
Campaign for President,
which has set a historic
record in the Republican
Primary having received
almost 14 million votes,
has announced that Corey
Lewandowski will
no longer be working
with the campaign. The
campaign is grateful to
Corey for his hard work
and dedication and we
wish him the best in the
future.” Trump’s spokeswoman
Hope Hicks said
in a statement. (ANI)
REITERATES CALL FOR SUPPORT TO
INDIA`S NSG MEMBERSHIP
With China playing a
dampener saying that
India’s admission to the
elite Nuclear Suppliers’
Group (NSG) is not on
the agenda of the grouping
which began its plenary
session in Seoul
on Monday, the United
States has called on the
participating governments
of the NSG to support
India’s application.
State Department
spokesperson John Kirby
said in a press briefing
that the US has not
changed its stand regarding
India’s membership
in the elite group.
“Well, as you know,
during Prime Minister
Modi’s visit, the President
welcomed India’s
application to join the
NSG and reaffirmed that
India is ready for membership.
We continue
to call - and nothing’s
changed about our position.
We continue to
call on the participating
governments of the NSG
to support India’s application
at the plenary session
this week in Seoul,”
he said.
When asked if the
Obama government has
taken up the matter with
China, who has been
firmly against India’s inclusion
in the NSG, Kerry
asserted that the US
has routinely spoken to
other NSG participating
members regarding the
matter.
“This is something
that we have - India’s
application is something
we have routinely talked
to other NSG participating
members. This is not
a new topic of discussion
that we’ve had privately
with the members,” he
said.
Ahead of the NSG
meeting in Seoul to decide
upon India and Pakistan’s
membership,
China reportedly continued
its resolute stand
yesterday, saying that
the matter of India’s admission
was not on the
agenda.
This statement came
as a backhand to External
Affairs Minister
Sushma Swaraj’s optimistic
statement earlier,
that China is not blocking
India’s entry to the
NSG but is only talking
about ‘criteria and procedures’.
“The NSG entry is
crucial for India’s energy
policy. China is not
blocking India’s entry to
the NSG. It is only talking
about criteria and procedures.
I am hopeful that
we would be able to convince
China to support
our entry to the NSG,”
Swaraj said in a press
briefing.
Foreign Secretary S.
Jaishankar made a twoday
trip to China on June
16 and 17 to discuss India’s
NSG membership
with his Chinese counterpart.
This visit came days
ahead of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s meeting
with Chinese President
Xi Jinping on June
23 when both leaders
will attend the Shanghai
Cooperation Organisation
leaders’ meeting in
Tashkent.
China has maintained
that more talks were
needed to build a consensus
on which countries
can join the 48-nation
NSG following the
United States’ push to
include India in the elite
group.
The countries, who
oppose India’s membership,
argue that its
inclusion in the group
would further undermine
efforts to prevent
proliferation and also infuriate
New Delhi’s rival
Pakistan.
Islamabad, which enjoys
the backing of its
close ally China, has also
responded to India’s
membership bid and
asked for its admission
as well.
The decision on Indian
membership will only
be decided at the NSG
plenary meeting in Seoul
scheduled on June 23
and 24.
India claims that 21
of 23 nations back its
bid. The NSG works on
unanimity and even one
“no” vote can scuttle India’s
bid.
The US has strongly
backed India’s bid and so
have Britain, Russia and
Switzerland.
FBI VETERAN, A RARE OUTSIDER, TO LEAD
US BORDER PATROL
An FBI veteran has
been named to head the
US Border Patrol, a departure
from the historical
practice of picking
someone who has risen
through the ranks.
Mark Morgan, who
briefly led the internal
affairs department at
the Border Patrol’s parent
agency, will oversee
a multibillion-dollar
annual budget at the
agency in the crosshairs
of the national debate
about border security
and immigration.
His selection does
not reflect lack of confidence
in the Border
Patrol’s leadership or
performance, Customs
and Border Protection
Commissioner R Gil Kerlikowske
said yesterday
He said nearly all federal
law enforcement
agencies, from the Coast
Guard to the Drug Enforcement
Administration,
had outsiders take
over at one time.
“In the case of the Border
Patrol, the current
leadership across the
top, from headquarters
to the field, consists of
the finest group of men
and women that I have
worked with in my more
than 40 years in law enforcement,”
Kerlikowske
wrote in a memo to staff.
Morgan, 50, is no
stranger to the Border
Patrol. In 2014, the FBI
loaned him to Customs
and Border Protection to
serve as acting assistant
commissioner for internal
affairs.
He oversaw an extensive
review of complaints
of excessive use
of force and employee
misconduct.
The National Border
Patrol Council, which
represents 18,000
agents, said it was disappointed
the commissioner
passed over several
highly qualified internal
candidates, ending what
it called a 92-year tradition
of choosing a leader
from within that dates
back to the agency’s creation.
“The Border Patrol
has a unique mission
that is reflected in its
culture and we realise
it will be difficult for an
outsider to quickly gain
the trust and respect of
his subordinates,” the
union said. “We hope
that Chief Morgan will
quickly overcome this
hurdle.”
(ANI)
Advocacy groups that
have criticised the Border
Patrol and its parent
agency over use-of-force
practices were generally
positive on the appointment
but said Morgan
had work cut out for
him.
During his 2014 stint
at Customs and Border
Protection, Morgan “acted
with independence
and integrity that promise
to serve the agency
well in his new role,”
said Chris Rickerd, policy
counsel at the American
Civil Liberties Union
Washington legislative
office.
Morgan’s challenge
will be to “foster trust in
border communities still
suffering painful memories
of an era when
Border Patrol imposed
no accountability for numerous
abuses,” Rickerd
said
BRITISH MAN CHARGED FOR
ATTEMPTING TO KILL TRUMP
A 19-year-old British
man has been charged
for trying to grab a police
officer’s gun at a Donald
Trump rally in Las Vegas
in a bid to kill the
presumptive Republican
presidential nominee.
According to a complaint
filed in federal
court in Nevada, Michael
Sandford tried to disarm
the officer at Saturday’s
rally at the Mystere Theatre
in the Treasure Island
Casino before being
overpowered.
It said the young man
told a Secret Service
agent after his arrest
that he had driven from
California to Las Vegas
“to kill Trump,” and had
been to a range a day
earlier to learn to shoot
as he had never fired a
gun before.
“Sandford acknowledged
that he would
likely only be able to fire
one to two rounds and
stated he was convinced
he would be killed by
law enforcement during
his attempt on Trump’s
life,” the complaint said.
It added that Sandford
told investigators he had
purchased tickets for a
rally in Phoenix, where
he “would try again to
kill Trump” in the event
his plan in Las Vegas
failed.
Video of his arrest carried
by US media show a
skinny man with short
brown hair and a grey
T-shirt being escorted
out of the rally by police
officers with his hands
behind his back.
The prosecutor’s office
said Sandford was
ordered held without
bond, as he was considered
dangerous and represented
a flight risk.
Britain’s Foreign Office
is “providing assistance”
in the case, a
spokesman said.
The complaint said
Sandford had told investigators
he had been
in the United States for
about 18 months, and
had lived in Hoboken,
New Jersey, before traveling
to California.
It said Sandford told
investigators that he had
targeted OfficerAmeel
Jacob’s gun because it
was in an unlocked position
and would be
the easiest way to gain
access to a weapon at
the rally where those
attending had to go
through metal detectors.
“Sandford further
stated that if he were
on the street tomorrow,
he would try this again,”
according to the complaint.
It said Sandford told
the Secret Service that
he had been plotting to
kill Trump for about a
year and finally decided
to act on Saturday, as “he
finally felt confident to
do it.”
His arrest comes amid
one of the nastiest US
presidential campaigns
in recent history, dominated
by violent rhetoric,
with Trump lashing
out at Mexicans, Muslims
and other groups.
The real estate billionaire
enjoys Secret
Service protection but
also has his own private
security detail that
has been accused of using
unnecessary force
to remove people from
events.
A number of protesters
have been arrested
at his rallies where riot
police are deployed in
force and there have
been mounting demonstrations
during his
campaign appearances
in recent months.
PAKISTAN ONLY HURDLE TO INDIAN
‘HEGEMONY’ IN SOUTH ASIA: SARTAJ AZIZ
Pakistan Prime Minister
Nawaz Sharif’s Adviser
on Foreign Affairs Sartaj
Aziz has asserted that
India has always tried to
‘maintain its hegemony’
in the South Asian region
but Islamabad has
effectively stood in New
Delhi’s way.
“But Pakistan rejected
this hegemony and has
effectively protected its
over Kashmir, nuclear
deterrence and conventional
He maintained that
“protecting Pakistan’s
sovereignty and vital interests
is a great achievement
as a nation”.
This comes in the
wake of the upcoming
Nuclear Suppliers’
Group (NSG) meeting in
Seoul on June 23rd and
24th where the membership
bid of India and
Earleir, Aziz reportedly
had telephonic
conversations with his
counterparts in Russia,
South Korea and New
IN AFGHAN BLASTS
Two Indians are among
In the first attack, a Taliban
suicide bomber hit a
minibus carrying foreign
security guards in Kabul
along the main road to the
eastern city of Jalalabad.
The Taliban also claimed
a second smaller blast in
south Kabul.
The third blast took
place in a market in the
remote northeastern province
of Badakhshan.
External Affairs Ministry
Spokesperson Vikas
“We have learnt that 2 Indian
and Govind Singh from
Dehradun died tragically
in the blast in Kabul today
Meanwhile, with China
the grouping which began
its plenary session
he said.
Fourteen Nepali security
guards working for the Canadian
were also killed in the first
blast.
The attacks come days
after the US announced an
expansion of the US military’s
RIO RESULTS COULD TAKE YEARS TO COME: WADA
The incoming director
general of the World
Anti-Doping Agency
(WADA) has said it could
be years before the results
of August’s Rio
Olympics are upheld.
Last week saw Australian
race walker Jared
Tallent belatedly awarded
a London 2012 Olympic
gold medal after
he was promoted from
silver four years ago because
of a Russian doping
case.
“You can tell people if
you cheat today, because
you think this is not detectable,
it will be detectable
tomorrow,” the
Swiss lawyer said.
“This has an impact
on the risks athletes take
because they know they
can lose their reputation
afterwards, “ added
Niggli, who will succeed
long-serving New Zealander
David Howman
as WADA director general
on July 1.
“But the other side
of the coin is that you
may have to re-do the
(medal) classification,”
explained Niggli on the
sidelines of the WADA
media symposium in
London.
“But would we better
off letting cheaters get
away it? Probably not.
Would we rather do that
quicker, probably yes,
but science’s pace is science’s
pace.
“You don’t want to ruin
the samples by re-testing
too early,” insisted
Niggli, with WADA’s statute
of limitations on the
holding of such samples
currently set at 10 years.
“You may want to wait
a little longer to let science
progress.
“Maybe some innovative
science will one day
allow us to be quicker.”
Friday saw the International
Association of
Athletics Federations
(IAAF) uphold an international
ban on Russia’s
track and field competitors
first imposed
in November after a
WADA report revealed
state-sponsored doping
and mass corruption in
Russian athletics.
The Russia team is
now ruled out of all
athletics events in Rio,
although Russian athletes
training outside
the country can apply to
compete as neutrals at
the August 5-21 Games.
If the final results of
Rio testing may not be
known definitely for
some time, Niggli said
that changing Russian
attitudes was also likely
to be a lengthy process.
“What we are observing
now is that the top
REJUVENATED INDIA HAVE THEIR HORNS LOCKED
AFTER ZIMBABWE LOSS
Led by veteran skipper
Mahendra Singh
Dhoni, this young
Indian side would
take heart from Monday’s
performances
by Barinder Sran,
Mandeep Singh, KL
Rahul and also Jasprit
Bumrah . India entered
the series on the back
of a 3-0 whitewash of
Zimbabwe in the preceding
ODI series, but
suffered a shocking
two-run loss to the
hosts in the opening
T20 last Saturday.
A rejuvenated India
will have their nose
ahead when they lock
horns with Zimbabwe,
left bruised and battered
after a 10-wicket
thrashing, in the series-deciding
third and
final Twenty20 International
on Tuesday
The visitors got their
act together in the second
game yesterday
and inflicted a crushing
defeat on Zimbabwe at
the Harare Sports Club.
India stayed alive
with a win in the second
game and would
now look to seal the issue
in their favour with
another convincing victory.
While young seamer
Sran returned the best
figures by an Indian on
BUSINESS
debut, Mandeep struck
a fluent half century
and Rahul too contributed
handsomely to
guide the team home
with plenty of overs to
spare.
Bumrah was a perfect
ally for Sran, picking
up three wickets. The
knock was Mandeep’s
maiden half century in
this format.
The young Turks
would like to have another
good outing before
heading home.
The team lost its
plot a bit in the first
game and according
to Mandeep, it stuck
to basics in the second
T20, and the result was
there for all to see.
India will take confidence
from the fact
that this was their first
10-wicket win in a T20
international.
The experienced
campaigner that he is,
Dhoni would however
not take the beleaguered
hosts lightly
and advise his younger
teammates to guard
against complacency,
irrespective of the margin
of victory in the
previous game.
RAJAN HOPING THE INFLATION FIGHT STAYS
ON FROM THE SUCCESSOR
Within days of announcing
his decision
against a second term,
RBI Governor Raghuram
Rajan today hoped
his successor will “stay
the course” in fighting
inflation and said the
central bank has been
“wise to disregard” calls
for deeper rate cuts.
Defending his continued
fight to bring
down the consumer
price inflation to low
single-digits from high
double-digits during his
three-year tenure, Rajan
also took on the “highly-
indebted industrialists”
saying banks were
charging them high
rates due to a ‘premium’
for the risk they may not
repay.
Remaining his outspoken
self even when
he is on his exit path, Rajan
said he would never
abandon fight against
inflation for growth
and hoped that the next
Governor and the new
Monetary Policy Committee
“will internalize
the frameworks and
institutions that have
been set up, and should
produce a low inflation
future for India.”
In his first public
appearance after making
public his decision
against a second term
when his current tenure
ends on September
4, Rajan put up a strong
defense of his monetary
policy stance.
“The fact that inflation
is fairly close to the
upper bound of our target
zone today suggests
we have not been overly
hawkish, and were wise
to disregard advice in
the past to cut more
deeply,” he said while
delivering a lecture at
the Tata Institute of
Fundamental Research
here.
Rajan, a monetary
economist credited to
have called the 2008
global financial crisis,
further argued that “if
a critic believes interest
rates are excessively
high, he either has
to argue the government-set
inflation target
should be higher
than it is today, or that
the RBI is excessively
pessimistic about the
path of future inflation.
“He cannot have it
both ways, want lower
inflation as well as lower
policy rates.”
Stating that perceived
short term trade-off
between inflation and
growth is not sustainable,
as is the popular
belief is, Rajan said a
boom-and-bust cycle
will not be good for the
economy, because if the
economy is producing
at potential, we would
quickly see shortages
and a sharp rise in inflation.
This means that
a central bank can never
abandon their inflation
fighting objective.
Exuding confidence
that his successor “will
stay the course” in setting
up the new MPC
into an institution, Rajan
said a “low-inflation
future” awaits India
when the government
will be able borrow at
low rates, and will be
able to extend the maturity
of its debt.
“The poor will not
suffer disproportionately
due to bouts of sharp
inflation, and the middle
class will not see its
savings eroded.
He also lauded the
government for taking
the “momentous
step” of both setting
a consumer price index-based
inflation objective
for the Reserve
Bank as well as setting
up an independent
monetary policy committee
(MPC).
After a spate of personal
attacks by a section
of the ruling party
and criticism for
not lowering the rates
enough to boost economy,
Rajan on Saturday
made the surprise
announcement that
he would not accept a
second term.
Stating that one
can’t fool all the people
all the time, Rajan
said indeed there are
some short-term benefits
of a low interest
rate regime by way of
a short run trade-off
between inflation and
growth such as a boom
in the stock markets,
but “if the economy is
producing at potential,
we would quickly see
shortages and a sharp
rise in inflation, leading
to a bout of boom and
bust cycle in the economy.
“But if contrary to expectations,
the central
bank is committed to
keeping inflation under
control, it may then be
forced to raise interest
rates substantially to
offset that temporary
growth. But the boom
and bust (arising from
this) will not be good
for the economy, and
average growth may be
lower than if the cut had
not taken place.
“This is why modern
economics also
says there is no long
run trade-off between
growth and inflation
and the best way for a
central bank to ensure
sustainable growth is
to keep demand close to
potential supply so that
inflation remains moderate,
and the other factors
that drive growth,
such as good governance,
can take center
stage” Rajan argued.
At the same time Rajan
was quick to add
that the RBI does not
focus on inflation to the
exclusion of growth. If
inflation rises sharply,
say due to a sharp rise
in oil prices, it would
not be sensible for a
central bank to bring
inflation within its target
band immediately
by raising interest rates
so high as to kill all economic
activity.
Rajan said India had
got used to decades of
moderate to high inflation,
leading to industrialists
and governments
paying negative real
interest rates and the
burden of the hidden inflation
tax falling on the
middle class saver and
the poor.
SANTOS BACKING RONALDO
TO BREAK EURO 2016
Portugal coach Fernando
Santos is backing
misfiring Cristiano Ronaldo
to break his Euro
2016 duck by netting
against Hungary tomorrow
to help fire his side
into the last 16.
Ronaldo is still waiting
for his opening goal
in France to become the
first person to score at
four consecutive European
championship finals.
The 31-year-old is
the holder of numerous
goal-scoring records, but
he has yet to hit the net
at Euro 2016, despite 20
chances so far.
Ronaldo set a new
Portuguese record with
his 128th international
cap in Saturday’s goalless
draw with Austria
- a milestone overshadowed
by his penalty
miss.
He crashed a 79th-minute
spot-kick against the
post in Paris having also
failed to score in the 1-1
draw with Iceland last
Tuesday.
The star that fans either
love or hate won
few Icelandic friends by
slamming their team’s
“small mentality” after
the draw.
This has been a frustrating
tournament for
Ronaldo.
His Portugal side has
failed to live up to their
pre-tournament billing
as Group F favourites.
They lie only third in
FORMER CAPTAIN INZAMAM WILL TRAVEL TO
ENGLAND TO OBSERVE PERFORMANCES
Pakistan’s former captain
and chief selector Inzamam-ul-
Haq will travel to England to observe
the performances of the
national team and A side on the
instructions of the PCB.
Inzamam was initially supposed
to be with the team
throughout the two and half
months tour but the board has
now changed his plans to avoid
unnecessary expenses.
“The former captain will
now go to England after the
third Test and remain there for
the final Test at the Oval, the
one-day series and the lone T20
international,” an official in the
board said.
He said the purpose of sending
the chief selector after the
third Test was to give him an
opportunity to watch the match
and have discussions with the
tour selection committee before
the limited over squad is
announced for the five ODIs and
T20 international.
“Inzamam himself wanted
to watch the players in action
in English conditions so that he
could be in a better position to
evaluate which players would
be required for the limited over
matches,” he said.
Since being appointed chief
selector, Inzamam has been
closely involved with the preparations
for the England tour and
for the first time not only the
national squad but also the A
side and women’s team are also
unencumbered
“This is a low-maintenance
suits a more classic
gent who’s not interested
in a style with
sharp contrast,” says
Adam Brady, Ruffians
It’s a progression
from last year’s
trend for long and
but measuring about
Which is good news
if you’ve been growing
your hair longer only
to realise it jars with
your face shape. “This
style is a great choice
for those with longer
BECAUSE THERE IS SKIN BEHIND THE BEARD
Men & Skin Care
Behind are the days
when appropriate skin
care for men was regarded
nonsense. Today, skin
care for men is more acceptable,
more and more
men are worrying about
their appearance, maybe
not as much as women,
but they are catching
up. Men want to look
good, young, attractive,
healthy...and why not?
Considering the growing
concern in men about
their appearance, many
new cosmetic products
for men are being introduced
in the market.
But before rushing to
buy skin care products,
make sure that you understand
the basics of
your skin and what you
should be using. Don’t
just use your partner’s
cosmetic products because
the skin is different.
Male Skin Characteristics
Men’s hormones or testosterone
are responsible
for male skin characteristics.
The main differences
between the skin of men
1. OWN AT LEAST
ONE V NECK T-SHIRT
IN YOUR COLLEC-
TION.
They are cool and
casual. Please get
the fitting right, not
too tight and too lose
to make it look like
something borrowed.
It is extremely comfortable
and when
picked right, super
versatile. But please
don’t pick a tee with a
deep plunge. It looks
absolutely crass. For
to carry a tee and
other style do’s and
don’ts, check out V
2. INVEST IN A GOOD
QUALITY SWEATER.
A sweater is versatile
and functional.
It not only shields
and women are:
• Men’s skin is
24% thicker than women
and the texture is rougher.
• Collagen and
elastin are found in more
quantity in man skin.
• Men’s skin is oilier
with open pores and is
prone to spots, blemishes
and acne.
• Shaving irritates
and dehydrates the skin.
11 Factors Affecting
How the Skin Looks
Factors that influence
the skin’s appearance are
similar in woman and
man:
1. Sun
2. Genetics
3. Age
4. Smoking
5. Stress
6. Alcohol
7. Lack of exercise
Easy Skin Care Routine
for Men
1- Clean the skin every
day, morning and night
with specific products to
get rid of dirt.
2- Moisturize every
day to protect the skin
from external factors and
dryness.
3- If you are serious
about your skin use sunblock
every day of the
year, as the sun is the
major factor that causes
aging skin. Many man
skin care products incorporate
sunscreen to
their formulas. Make sure
it has high SPF and that
protects from ultraviolet
light.
4- Use a nutritive product
during the night to regenerate
the skin.
5- Use a specific product
to protect the area
around the eyes and
prevent dark circles and
puffy eyes.
6- Use products, aimed
at your age group. The
moisturizer that you use
during the day, or the nutritive
during the night
can at the same time, act
as anti aging. Ask in the
beauty counter about the
skin care ingredients that
the product may contain.
HOW TO UP YOUR GAME
They can be worn as is
or incorporated with a
number of ensembles
to create different and
voguish looks. They
work well with casuals,
formals, events
and special occasions.
3. ROLLED UP SHIRT
SMART AND SEXY.
It has undertones
of formal
wear with panache
provided
you roll them
right. Don’t roll
it up in a haphazard
manner, like
a joint. There
is a difference
between care a
damn and careless.
4. NEUTRAL
COLORS AND PAT-
TERNS ARE CLASSIC
AND SAFE.
But there is no rush
like doing something
new. Take a little risk.
Experiment with colors
and patterns, be
it in yoursocks, ties,
pocket squares, bow
ties and so on. Try
out some unusual cufflinks
or lapel pins.
Everything fun comes
with a little risk.
5. COORDINATE
YOUR COLORS AND
PATTERNS
Yes experimenting
is fun
but don’t do it
all at once. Save
something for
the next time.
If you have
something in
your ensemble
that is risqué
or stands
out, don’t have
something else
completely opposite.
If you
want to add
more color or
pattern or even
texture, choose
the second piece
keeping in mind
the first one. Coordinate
well to
look sleek and
stylish. Overdoing
something
will kill your entire
look.
6. SUNGLASSES AND
FRAMES SHOULD AL-
WAYS BE ACCORDING
TO THE SHAPE OF
YOUR FACE.
Don’t follow the
latest trend blindly.
There are something’s
7- Apply a specific
product before shaving
and a moisturizing lotion
after. Try to shave after
the shower, use a quality
razor and change the razor’s
blades regularly.
8- Exfoliate the skin at
least once a week to get
rid of dead cells and excess
of oil. It will also help
with cellular renovation
and to avoid the appearance
of spots.
that look good only on
a particular face shape.
So instead of aping,
pick something made
for you, specifically
made for you. Something
that enhances
your face and features
and highlights your
positives
an advantageous
manner.
AGING CAN BE COOL
Age typically creeps up
on us, and it is not something
that is welcomed
with open arms. Aging
isn’t the funniest part of
life, but it is certainly a
part of it. However, there
are some things that only
get better with age. Men
are notoriously known for
keeping articles of clothing
or accessories around
well after they should have
been disposed of. For the
first time, there is a very
valid reason for him holding
onto his favorite pair of
jeans or ball cap.
Men do not have the
need that women do when
it comes to fashion. A man
can own the same jeans
and T-shirts until they literally
fall apart. There is no
need to follow the fashion
trends, as a man’s wardrobe
contains a couple staple
items that will get him
through any occasion. The
older these items get, the
more characteristics they
possess.
Here are some aging
items that you may find in
a man’s wardrobe, which
have only gotten better
with time.
Face Shape
Face Shape Guide
7. SPENDING ON A
GOOD WATCH IS NOT
AN OPPORTUNITY
COST BUT AN IN-
VESTMENT.
Watches are so subtle
and so sneaky in
enhancing your style
quotient, like the
shoemakers elves.
When picked right and
coordinated well they
add character and
depth to your look.
Denim Jeans :Denim
has the ability to ware
well. They take on ware
marks that make the jeans
look rugged and broken in.
Some people will pay big
bucks for a pair of denim
jeans that look worn. Most
men have at least one pair
in their attire that has been
around long enough to get
this stylish look.
Leather Jackets: Leather
is a material that provides
longevity. Therefore,
it has become known as
the material to invest in
when wanting an item that
you will own for a while.
There are different grades
of leather, and it is best to
invest in a full grain leather.
As the leather is worn, it
builds character that cannot
be bought on a store
rack. A good leather jacket
can hang around in a
man’s closet for a good 20
to 30 years. At this point,
you have an amazing vintage
item that is as stylish
as the day you bought it.
Rugged Boots : A good
pair of boots can really last
a long time. Take combat
boots that were originally
bought in the 1960’s.
Many people
don’t know
what they are
buying, So to
make it easy
for them We
have made
this – Watch
Buying Guide
101 ( don’t
miss it)
8. WHEN
BUYING AP-
PAREL OF
ANY KIND,
P A N T S ,
JEANS, JACK-
ETS, BLAZ-
ERS, SHIRTS,
S W E A T E R S ,
T-SHIRTS, SUITS,
AND EVERYTHING
ELSE IN CLOTHING
THAT I HAVE CUR-
RENTLY FORGOT-
TEN, SO BASICAL-
LY ALL APPARELS
SHOULD FIT YOU
RIGHT.
Nothing should
be too tight or too
lose. It should be
just right. That
is what looks the
best. It does not
The age of these boots
will bring a heroic type of
montra to them. This is a
sure piece of vintage ware
that looked good in the
60’s, but looks even better
today.
Leather or Canvas
Luggage: Rather, it is
leather or canvas, a piece
of luggage only builds
more character with time.
As travel wares on the exterior,
it becomes a stylish
piece of carry along that
could not be found in luggage
on the store shelf.
Plus, good luggage is not
cheap, so this is something
that a man would invest in
and keep for the long run.
Canvas Sneakers
Nothing is better than an
old pair of Chuck Taylors
or Vans. Not only are they
extremely comfortable,
they possess a world of
style that cannot be found
in a new pair of shoes.
Older isn’t always better,
but when wanting to
look vintage a worn out
pair of shoes or jeans are
way cooler than anything
you could buy brand new.
matter if the material
is expensive or the cut
is trendy unless you
get the size right.
9. IF YOU HAVE THE
OPTION THEN AL-
WAYS GET YOUR SUIT
TAILORED.
Nothing compares
or beats it in elegance,
class and style.
10. MATCH METAL
WITH METAL.
Coordinate your accessories
like rings,
watches, tie pins,
bracelets and so on.
It looks gaudy when
these clash.

ENTERTAINMENT
IT WAS CONSCIOUS DECISION NOT TO
STICK TO ANY IMAGE: JIMMY
Actor Jimmy Shergil,
who has managed to
carve a niche for himself
in Bollywood with variety
of roles, says it was
a “conscious decision”
not repeating himself in
‘chocolate-boy roles’.
It was a conscious decision
to not to go back
to chocolate boy roles. I
don’t want to get stuck
to any image,” Jimmy
told the media.
“I am glad I did that
(not stuck to one kind of
role) as I got the opportunity
to do something
different like ‘Haasil’,
‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, ‘A
Wednesday’ and others.
These roles got me
lot of appreciation,” he
said.
The “Special 26”
star says if he gets to
do “meaty role” in a
multi-starrer project,
length of the character
does not bother him
much.
“I do solo films as
well. But if I am getting
to play meaty roles in
an ensemble film then
why not do it. I want
to do good memorable
roles I don’t look at the
length of the character,”
the 45-year-old actor
said.
“Whatever I am today
it is because of the film
industry.
I have no regrets. I
take it as a compliment
when people ask me if I
have got my due or not.”
Jimmy says he is
grateful for all the love
and support that he has
got from the industry.
“I don’t think there is
any formula. I have always
been honest to my
work. It’s my conscious
decision to not get slotted
in one kind of image,”
he said.
Jimmy will be next
seen in playing a politician
in “Shorgul” and is
quite excited about the
film.
“It is a fictitious
character. The film is
inspired from lot of incidents
that has happened
in our society.”
The upcoming political
thriller drama is
directed by Pranav Kumar
Singh and Jitendra
Tiwari.
It is reportedly loosely
based on 2013 Muzaffarnagar
riots.
“The story is very appealing...it
was something
I had not done before.
It’s an interesting
love story and politics
is the backdrop of it,” he
said.
Starring Jimmy,
Ashutosh Rana, Suha
Gezen, Narendra Jha,
Anirudh Dave and Sanjay
Suri in lead roles,
the film is set to release
on June 24.
VIKRAM PRABHU’S ‘VEERA SIVAJI’ WRAPPED UP
Vikram Prabhu’s
Veera Sivaji has
wrapped up its final
schedule, the post production
works have
already begun and
the teaser is likely to
be out soon. The first
look poster, which has
Vikram Prabhu and
Shamili riding a car in
adventurous mode, has
already created a buzz.
In the film, Vikram
Prabhu plays the role of
a cab driver and interestingly
unlike its title;
the film has nothing to
do with the legendary
actor Sivaji Ganesan.
Interestingly, the role of
the hero is inspired by
Marathi king Chhatrapati
Sivaji. Also a courageous
warrior, he was
known for his guerrilla
warfare skills and
would use calculated
tactics to fight enemies.
Similarly, in this film
Vikram Prabhu tricks
his enemies and attacks
them in a different way.
Sri Thenandal Films
have grabbed the release
rights of the film.
ORIGINAL ‘STAR TREK’ ACTOR PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANTON
“Star Trek” stalwart
Walter Koenig has paid
a touching tribute to his
film counterpart Anton
Yelchin following the
young actor’s untimely
passing.
Yelchin, 27, was killed
after his Jeep rolled
down his driveway and
crushed him against a
brick pillar at his San
Fernando Valley home
in California on Sunday,
according to an
entertainment website.
Yelchin played the character
of Pavel Chekov
in the three recent film
versions of the sci-fi
story.
Koenig, who played
Chekov in the 1960s series
and its subsequent
films, offered his condolences
saying, “We
spoke on a sound stage
for about two hours. His
reputation as an artist
preceded him, however.
I knew I was in the
presence of a gifted performer.
“What I learned that
day was how bright
and sensitive he was. I
walked away thinking
- this is a good person.
My heart goes out to
his mother and father. I
know what you’re going
through.”
Koenig went through
his own shocking tragedy
in 2010, after his
actor son, Andrew, was
found dead in a Canadian
park after he went
missing. His death was
ruled a suicide.
Meanwhile, Yelchin’s
“Alpha Dog” co-star Justin
Timberlake took to
Twitter to pay his respects
to the late actor,
writing, “Anton Yelchin.
Genius actor. Amazing
human being. Gone
WAY too soon. May he
rest in peace.”
Fellow castmate
Emile Hirsch tweeted,
“I can’t believe Anton
is gone. He was a great
man, a true friend, and
an artist. Love you buddy.”
The late actor has
also been honoured by
his co-stars such as Zoe
Saldana, Zachary Quinto,
John Cho and director
JJ Abrams, as well as
members of the original
Star Trek TV series, including
George Takei
and William Shatner.
Yelchin’s death is
currently under investigation
by both Los
Angeles authorities and
representatives from
Fiat Chrysler, the maker
of the actor’s Jeep,
after reports indicated
his and other 2015 Jeep
Grand Cherokees were
part of a recall linked
to other ‘roll away’ incidents.
RAM CHARAN RETURNS
Following his disastrous
last film Bruce
Lee which released last
year, Mega Power Star
Ram Charan took a long
gap to begin the shooting
of his next film,
Dhruva. Even though
the film was launched
several months ago,
Charan joined the team
only in June.
Dhruva is currently
into its third schedule
and according to
confirmed sources,
the makers decided
to release the film on
the 30th of September
to cash in on the pre-
Dasara hype and craze
before the festive season
further boosts the
collections until mid to
late October.
However, Charan’s
poor Dasara track record
is bothering fans.
Barring his debut film,
Chirutha, which released
on September
28 in 2007, all of Charan’s
later films which
released during the
Dasara season such as
Thoofan (Sep 6), Govindudu
Andarivadele (Oct
1) and the last year’s
nightmare Bruce Lee
(Oct 16) were huge loss
ventures.
His fans are desperately
hoping that Charan
will bounce back to
his success streak with
Dhruva at least, but are
simultaneously wary of
the fact that Charan is
once again risking with
his unluckiest season.
Can the Mega Power
Star rewrite his Dasara
fate with Dhruva?
RANGITARANGA 1.0 SOON TO HIT THEATRES
Rangitaranga may be the most successful
the movie’s director Anup Bhandari
and his team is gearing up for one
more Rangitaranga release. Well, this
time is it not Rangitaranga 2.0 but
AR RAHMAN FINDS IT TOUGH TO
SCORE MUSIC
Who does Academy
award winner AR Rahman
find it tough to
score music for? Well,
we may believe that
the directors will be
more than happy to sign
Rahman but according
to Rahman, it is director
Shankar who is the
toughest to get convinced.
When Rahman
came to the stage to
receive the best music
award for his scores in
I, he said his and Shankar’s
combination has
produced some of the
wonderful hits in the
past and present. However,
currently, Rahman
is scoring the music for
Shankar’s Robot 2 featuring
Rajnikant. “It has
been six months since
Shankar is yet to accept
the tunes,”quipped Rahman
during the award
function.
RAVISHANKAR COMPLETES 50 FILMS
The actor completes
50 films with ‘Jigarthanda’
which insiders
say could be his best
performance yet.
He may have lent
voice for over 3,000
films, but it is the 50
Kannada films that he
has acted in that are
dearest to Ravishankar.
While his voice was his
identity earlier, now,
in July. An amalgamation
of fun and entertainment,
audiences also saw
an honest appreciation
and admiration for good
cinema across Tamil,
Malayalam, Telugu and
Kannada by the entire
southern fraternity. The
title sponsor of the show
was Britannia Industries
Ltd. Associate sponsors
were, Dazller Eterna, LYF
and Reliance Trends. The
other media partners include
- Radio Partner - Radio Mirchi;
Telecast Partner - Vijay TV, MAA TV,
Suvarna TV and Asianet; Hospitality
Partner - Hyderabad International
Convention Center & Novotel; Beverage
Partner Blackdog and Kingfisher,
Multiplex Partner - Orienta Cine Advertising
and Trophy Partner - The
Award Gallery.
he is no less a star than
any other actor. The
negative roles he does
in films are no less popular
than those of the
‘heroes’. Jigarthanda
is Ravishankar’s 50th
Kannada film as an actor.
The film is in the
news for all the good
reasons and insiders
say it could be Ravishankar’s
best yet.
