FIGHTING TO
Govern
UNREST IN THE WHITE HOUSE DAY1
The nation changes today as one party took
over the public’s right to transparency.
Democrats started a sit-in to protest the
GOP obstruction for vote on gun-control
legislation following the Orlando shootings.
Republican-controlled House shut
off the cameras to the American Public!
Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network,
(C-SPAN) is an American cable and satellite
television network that was created
in 1979 by the cable television industry as
a public service. January 1997, C-SPAN
began real-time streaming of C-SPAN and
C-SPAN2 on its website, the first time that
Congress had been live streamed online.
Refusing to be held hostage by the GOP
majority, democrats and others takes its
case to the nation using cell phones and
live streaming. Using social media and
Periscope live streaming, several of the
Democratic members taking part in the
demonstration took affairs into their own
hands and started streaming the protest live.
Democrats have said the sit-in will continue
until a vote is called on legislation
that proposes greater background checks
and a ban on sales to anyone on a terrorism
watch list. A similar series of bills
were voted down recently in the Senate,
a vote that was only called after a
long filibuster by Senator Chris Murphy.
JERSEY’S JOURNAL by Jersey Shore
Fat is the gay man’s Kryptonite. If a fat
person is walking in the direction of a
gym rat, grindr, bar drunk direction, they
use their superpowers of Vanity to walk
the other way and avoid you like Hep
C. What I find amusing is that when I
loose 10 or 15 pounds, I’m getting a few
looks. A week later when I pack it on, I
don’t exist. Am I not the same person?
The package got loosely shrink wrapped,
but is it still THE SAME PERSON you
cruised last week? So, all I have to say is
what a vain bunch of shitheads you “humans”
are.
It’s not like I’m at a bar or the cruising
locations to get my rocks off. It’s at
a Starbucks, the grocery store, or on a
street when you see someone and just let
out a hello or open the door. Why can a
woman say thanks and hello, but a gym
rat, grindr obsessed, self-loving, ignorant
can’t say hello because you think I want
to have sex with YOU?! Are mirrors a
foreign concept to you? You do realize
you are old, not as attractive as you think
you are, got to your deteriorating features
through medication, BUT I can’t get a
courtesy hello as another human living
on this planet? Grow that beard and use
your government steroids to become that
huge meat head that looks like your head
it going to explode with all the vein blood
pressure concluding your brain functions.
And you wonder why the world is turning
into a shit hole? Because of your nasty
attitude. You attract more with honey
than you do with vinegar, but honey will
probably make you have to do extra sit
ups in the steam room.
Get over yourself! You are not all that.
Even if you are attractive, with a great
body, a big dick, nice round butt, this fat
drag queen will kick you out of my bed
because you’re an arrogant asshole who
deserves what your lack of any self-respect
you THINK you have. You can look
for it and find it, but I won’t be waiting.
I’m good. I got my hand. Takes two minutes
to get off, and not a week on grindr!
Good luck with that.
Peace, Love, FAT,
THE VISUAL ANOMALIES OF LGBT HISTORY: DIS-
CRIMINATION, VIOLENCE, AND ENVY
The most violent, tragic mass murder,
terrorist, event perpetrated by a single
person, in the history of the United States,
took place on June 12, 2016 in Orlando,
Florida. 49 people were murdered by gun
shots from a MILITARY grade semi-automatic
rifle. 50 more people were seriously
injured. The attack was performed at a gay
nightclub, which was also celebrating a Latin
dance party. The person who committed
this tragedy came from a background of
militaristic homophobia. One of the anomalies
projected is that he was repressing his
sexuality as a closeted gay.
Violence against LGBT people can be
traced back at least to 200 B.C. The RELI-
GIONS that were advancing during that
time, and subsequently, included strict sexual
codes. The Muslim and Christian RE-
LIGIONS, put forth sanctions that included
the death penalty as the ultimate deterrent
for engaging in a sexual act with someone
of the same sex. History has shown
that categorizing of sexuality, both from
a RELIGIOUS, and political perspective,
promoted the repression and discrimination
against same sex relationships. The use
of the pink triangle, identifying gay men,
and the black triangle to identify lesbians,
during Hitler’s Third Reich allowed tens of
thousands of these people to be murdered
by the Nazis’ during this period of recent
MILITARY dark history.
Gay sex in the MILITARY has an anomalistic
history also. It is widely demonstrated
that prominent Greek and Roman military
figures had same sex lovers and battle
partners. During contemporary times,
LGBT people are serving in their respective
country’s MILITARY in the majority
of Western countries. However activist
acknowledge that there is major need for
improvement of acceptance. The anomaly
is that LGBT people are accepted in the
MILITARY to serve as another warm body
to be sacrificed, but basically shunned by
their homophobic counterparts. The United
States MILITARY being one of the most
prominent examples of this with the “Don’t
Ask Don’t Tell” non policy, that has allowed
for routine discrimination, violence, and
hardships against LGBT individuals. The
current example of this is the posting, 2
days after the Orlando massacre, on Facebook,
of a Marine Corp soldier from Camp
Pendelton, brandishing an assault rifle with
the headline, ‘Coming to a gay bar near
you!”
There has been more social awareness
and acceptance of the legitimacy of LGBT
relationships. However, there is still more
direct action needed to expose government,
civil, and societal negligence to advance
acceptance and celebration of differences;
reexamining RELIGIOUS dogma to
adopt the advancement of human variety;
and political action to restrict and control
The sad fact is we have been there before,
nearly every member of the LGBT community
has been touched by violence in their
lives. Dallas Holocaust Museum spokeswoman
Nanette Fodell drew a parallel
between the Holocaust and recent events
affecting the LGBT community. She said
that the Holocaust began with the bullying
of Jewish children in schools. “Bullying
turned into genocide,” she said. After the
war, the government declared that those in
equality has gone from 30 percent to 60
percent. Harvey Milk was right when he
said, “Come out come out wherever you
are”. And because we did, many people
changed their attitudes mostly because they
personally knew a member of the LGBT
community, as Social engineering experts
call this “contact hypothesis.”
Look around us, gay groups have the organizational,
financial and cultural resources
to impact political opportunities as they
arise. We are also loud and when we get
behind something we seldom back down.
It’s going to be a big deal.
We are strong and the gay community has
a solid track record of moving voters in
key states. Still, the NRA has a solid lock
on many organizations,and people, chief
among them are those that hate the gay
community.
But also we have shown great success,
largely focused on changing hearts, minds
and courts. In terms of electoral politics,
we exist in every family and in every
demographic. We are legion but we are not
anonymous!
Few monuments exist to honor gay victims
of the Holocaust, gay leaders or soldiers.
Locally we have the only one to honor
LGBT shoulders that died is service to our
nation, that did not magically happen, our
town fathers and mothers help put that
together. Yet we get few supporters at each
memorial.
Banning assault weapons and stricter gun
control wont solve all our problems but it
will give us more time to save more lives.
And that is a small price to pay, but a big
victory for the health of our nation.
Here’s are some resources. If you have a resourced
THAT IS FUNNY
Three guys walk into a building. You’d think one of them would’ve seen it.....
A teacher is teaching a class and she sees that Johnny isn’t paying attention, so she asks him, “If there are
three ducks sitting on a fence, and you shoot one, how many are left?” Johnny says, “None.” The teacher
asks, “Why?” Johnny says, “Because the shot scared them all off.” The teacher says, “No, two, but I like how
you’re thinking.” Johnny asks the teacher, “If you see three women walking out of an ice cream parlor, one
is licking her ice cream, one is sucking her ice cream, and one is biting her ice cream, which one is married?”
The teacher says, “The one sucking her ice cream.” Johnny says, “No, the one with the wedding ring, but I
like how you’re thinking!”
I asked a visitor to Palm Springs for his number. He said, “Sex! Sex! Sex! Free sex tonight!” I said, “Wow!”
Then his friend said, “he means 666-3629.”
Instead of “the John,” I call my toilet “the Jim.” That way it sounds better when I say I go to the Jim first
thing every morning.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
You know how some weeks only a few things
happen, well this wasn’t one of them.
Democrats are beginning to coalesce around
Hillary Clinton as the nominee of the party.
Monday there was a conference call for professional
political types; pollsters, printers, ad
designers, etc detailing how to bring all the
November races together, from President to
City Council. In the evening, the Riverside
County Democratic Central Committee met
and heard from all the folks running for state
assembly and Congress. Our valley was well
represented by Greg Rodriguez for Assembly
and even our own Councilman John Aguilar!
The week ended from a partisan not at the
Executive Board of the CA Democratic Party.
Let Governor Newsom, Secretary of State
Padilla, Insurance Commissioner Jones and
State Controller Yee were all in attendance.
The message was clear.
Get out the vote and keep Donald Trump
from winning
Elsewhere during the week, the state held
a webinar on medical canny us and how is
going to be regulating it. It was very informative
and I know everyone on the call appreciated
the time spent. Also, the Air Quality
Management District held a workshop on
funding for local governments on clean air
projects. Millions of dollars are available to
cities, schools and special districts in the next
two years and this was the opportunity for
our locals to weigh in on what they needed.
Thursday there was a vigil for the Orlando
massacre victims. Several hundred men and
women attended. Mayor Moon from Palm
Springs and I, representing Cathedral City
spoke. Additionally two of my colleagues,
Shelley Kaplan and John Aguilar, along with
their husbands were there. Palm Springs
announced a proposal to restrict the sales of
automatic rifles. Good for them! Cathedral
City has restricted the sales of all guns since
1999 and in fact you cannot buy a gun in the
city. I am beginning to believe the LGBT
community may be the only one strong
enough to fight against the NRA.
We have the organizational skills, the ability
to raise the necessary financial wherewithal
and know how to fight an entrenched foe.
Plus we know that hate does not won in the
end, only love does. If you want to help in
this effort, contact the LGBT CEnter or the
Equality CA office,
Personally, I started seeing a trainer this
week. Being my size and walking precincts
door to door for a campaign is not a good
combination. Wish me well!
Greg Pettis is a 22 year city councilman in Cathedral
City. He has made his name in governmental circles
as an expert in transportation issues and is very active
in working on bringing passenger rail service to the
COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly gay
elected city council members In Riverside County. He
has served on the boards of the National League of
Cities and the League of California Cities and as President
of the Southern CA Association of Governments.
