GUARDIANS’ NEWS
Welcome! A big smile, and a gentle, “Where do you come from?”
This is how thousands of visitors to St Alban’s are greeted 6 days a week and
every Sunday afternoon. I sat with Stephanie and Eddie the afternoon of the
‘Patron’s Picnic in the Park’ and watched the smiling and generous reactions of
at least 100 people walking into the church on that sunny Sunday afternoon. The
Guardians quickly develop a sixth sense as to which language will be spoken
next and at least 10 of languages on our information sheets were used. Even
Albanian!
Many visitors that day were Danes who had walked past the church for years on
their way to work, but had never stepped inside. They loved it and commented
on the beauty and calm of the building.
Many thanks and much praise to the entire team of guardians, and to Rosemary,
the Team Leader, who is also helping carry bags of Danish kroner coins to the
bank every week. So far, in Danish kroner alone, they have raised nearly Dkk
135,000 not to mention all the Euro coins!
Let her know if you have time to take a 3 hour turn sometimes. If she can’t take
you up on the offer this year, she will certainly do so next!
