What Australian Standards Affect My Parking Area? 

To help the movement and speed of traffic within your facility and to 

protect employees and visitors, Seton offers a range of signs that 

comply to AS1743-2001 “Road Signs – Specification” and AS1742-2003 

“Manual of Uniform Traffic Devices – General Introduction and Index Of 

Signs” and Australian Road Rules:2003. 

These standards cover areas such as pedestrian control, protection, 

parking/traffic controls for general use and for works on roads, speed 

controls and other signs. To comply, some signs need to be made from 

Class 1 or 2 Reflective Aluminium for maximum visibility. They are 

designed to warn drivers of areas such as school and crossing places 

where the danger of an accident may be increased. 

Signs are not the only means to help you control traffic. Seton offers a

Follow the steps below to help choose the right mirror for your application. Most mirror comes complete with fixings 

and mounting brackets, along with easy to follow installation instructions. 

Choosing The Appropriate Mirror: 

1. To determine the correct mirror, simply follow these step by step instructions; 

2. Estimate the distance from the viewer to the proposed mirror location. 

3. Estimate the distance from the proposed mirror location to the area/object to be observed. 

4. Combine the distances in step 1 and 2. The total distance is your guide to the correct mirror size. Use the table 

shown to choose appropriate mirror size. If in doubt, choose the larger size. 

5. Refer to the Mirror Material Guide below to select a material that will best suit your application.

Placement of Wheel Stops According to AS2890.1:2004 

Wheel stops may be provided where it is considered necessary to limit the travel of a vehicle into a parking space. 

Typical uses of wheel stops include: 

• Controlling the kerb overhang where inconvenient or hazardous to pedestrians. 

• Inhibiting contact with an end barrier or high kerb. 

• Inhibiting encroachment into an opposing parking space. 

Wheel stops should be avoided in any situations where they may be in the path of pedestrians moving to and from parked vehicles, or crossing a car 

park for any other purpose. 

The maximum height of wheel stops under AS2890.1-2004 is 100mm. Most concrete wheel stops do not comply with the standard as they exceed 

maximum height.

Steel Sign Posts

• Strong, maintenance free, flanged channel posts 

U-Channel Posts are made of a rolled high tensile steel and have 3.5mm holes 

spaced every 25mm along the centre for easy sign mounting. The signs mount to 

the flanged side of post. Choose the right length to suit your requirements (see 

chart below). U-Channel posts accept dual purpose sign base and post driver. 

Galvanised: 

Steel post is submersed in “hot” zinc solution which when cooled, forms a 

permanent, “silver” finish. This process leaves a protective barrier that rust-proofs 

post from chips,bends and abrasions. 

Green Baked Enamel: 

Steel posts are dipped in green enamel paint, which is then baked to create a 

durable, attractive sign post. The enamel seals the post to prevent rust for years.
