2015 Youth4Yule program

In today’s world it has become ever more rare for young dancers to get the experience of dancing

with live music. We are so honoured and excited to present the 2nd annual “Youth 4 Yule” with the

LGSYO and Clyde Mitchell. What a special treat to see some of Canada’s up and coming young

dancers perform with these budding young musicians!

Pro Arté Centre is best known for its commitment to providing holistic and inspired training to young

dancers intending to pursue a career in dance. Established 12 years ago, its graduates have been

accepted into dance companies and graduate programs within Canada, the United States and

Europe. We are very fortunate to have vibrant staff of many of Vancouver’s most recognized and

respected teachers as well as an on-site support team in dance physiotherapy, academics, nutrition

and pilates dance conditioning.

Thank you for joining us this evening. What a pleasure it is to be part of the development of these

talented young artists!

Astrid & Sarah

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the festive performance of Youth 4 Yule. One of our primary

goals is to foster and encourage the emerging generations of young artists that represent the

future in Performing Arts. This evening is a bright contribution to this future. Now, more than

ever, it is important to raise the profi le of the talent that lies in Canada and, more specifi cally, in

British Columbia in our local community. Together with your partnership, we take steps tonight in

the direction of training and retaining the arts leaders of tomorrow. Thank you for being here and

joining us in honouring the efforts of these young performing artists.

Our program began in 2010, Lions Gate Sinfonia and Music Director Clyde Mitchell launched

a project to select piano students through an audition process and prepare them for a staged

performance with our professional orchestral musicians. The young pianists were coached on the

process that professional musicians go through to make live music for an audience. The performance

was astonishing and the transformation in each of the young performers was immense.

Following on from this success, Lions Gate Sinfonia began exploring ways to create this kind of

experience for more young musicians. The resulting program is Lions Gate Youth Orchestra, which

provides ongoing connection between young musicians and their professional mentors.

This relationship elevates the basic youth orchestra experience through direct insights into the professional

realm. On the foundation of musical training and mentorship, we also focus on leadership

and teamwork development
