transition from cotton notes to the

During WWII, Churchill

suggested the Beeches as

a suitable place to hide army vehicles

and in May 1942, large parts of the site

were requisitioned by the war department.

Fast-forward to today and the ten acres

circulation from 2017 and in addition

to a portrait based on an original sketch

of Jane Austen drawn by her sister and

The Maverick Collection

Artist JMW Turner and his painting

The Fighting Temeraire will feature on

the new design of the Bank of England's

£20 note which will come into circulation

in 2020.

The English Romantic artist was

chosen from a list of public nominations

- the first time the Bank has asked who

should appear on a specific banknote.

Taken from a famous lecture made in

1818 and referring to Turner's innovative

use of light, shade, colour and tone, the

quote to appear on the note is:

"Light is therefore colour."

Turner has been described as an artist

who bridged both the classical and

modern worlds, with Tracy Emin calling

him a wild maverick - perfectly fitting for

Briefly explain your role?

I work with the hotels' General

Managers to assist in delivering the

business and revenue plans, I produce

monthly reports and forecasts and

implement new initiatives aimed to

increase our profitability, and I manage

a portfolio of corporate accounts for

the group.

I'm also involved with the recruitment,

induction and training of our sales

managers and administrators and

I support them in developing our

strategies, helping them to reach

their monthly targets and I'll attend

meeting with clients.

What's the most rewarding thing

about working within this industry

and what do you love most about

your job?

Every day is different, there is always

something going on and a new

challenge to embrace so there's never

a dull moment. I do enjoy meeting new

clients and supporting them with their

business needs plus seeing all the

different hotels and dealing with

internal challenges.

What are your professional goals

and dreams?

I have a short, medium and long term

plan! Short term is to be a successful

part of the restructure within the Sales

Team at Carlson Rezidor and to lead by

example and make a difference to how

we operate.

Medium term I am driven to look at how

I can progress in the industry and my

next steps would be Regional Director

of Sales and then Group Director of Sales

and I would like to achieve this in the

next 10 years if not sooner.

Long term I wish to own my own business,

providing holiday accommodation

somewhere beautiful in Cornwall and

near the sea.

What's the strangest or funniest

experience you've had at work?

Having worked in this industry for the

past 16 years I’ve seen a lot of funny

and strange moments! The two that

stick in my mind are the lady who

thought she had to pay for swans on

the river to be there for her wedding

day. The second one is dressing up

as a lion to visit agents in various

weird and wonderful locations

for a promotion!

What's your favourite holiday

destination and why?

UK wise it has to be Cornwall because

it is like a second home. The beaches,

restaurants and pubs are amazing, as

are the people.

Crete will always be special because

of my honeymoon there.

What one word best

describes you?

Passionate.

What achievements are you

most proud of?

I left college at 19 years old and

decided not to go to university.

I didn't have any career plans and

fell into this industry. I'm proud of what

I've achieved so far. A part from a short

time working with an events company,

I've always been in hotels or hospitality

- it's like a magnet that just keeps

pulling you back.

I'm the proud father of four

boisterous and beautiful children.

What's your favourite movie?

'Enemy of the State' with

Will Smith and Gene Hackman.
