ON THE RISE
Under Coach Roysland’s leadership, Macalester women’s basketball has quickly made
great strides and is excited to continue to build on recent successes. Coach Roysland
values recruiting top student-athletes who will continue to establish a strong team
culture on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

MAJOR: BIOLOGY

A basketball player since age 10, Park
Masterson ’17 (San Diego) appreciates
the opportunity to continue playing at
a competitive level at Macalester.
Basketball, she believes, equips her
with skills for “life outside of the gym—
communication, determination, teamwork,
individual accountability, and a
willingness to put in the hard work and
long hours necessary to achieve success.”
“On our Macalester team, I’ve found a
group of women I want to work hard for
every day.”
During her junior season, Masterson led
the Scots in rebounds per game en route
to the team’s highest win total in four
seasons. Off the court, Masterson studies
biology and legal studies. She plans to
pursue a career in law enforcement. Last
summer, Masterson interned in a forensic
biology lab in San Diego, where she
helped process physical evidence from
crime scenes.
“Macalester has allowed me the
opportunity to take classes outside
of my major that I would not have
normally considered,” Masterson said.
“I appreciate the small class sizes.
Professors are committed to their
students’ learning and are very
accessible for non-scheduled class
time meetings and questions.”
