Liebe Sängerinnen und Sänger!

gesagt werden kann und worüber zu

Herzlich willkommen in Graz, einer
Stadt, die nicht nur die Eingangstür zu
einer großen Europaregion zwischen
den Alpen, der Adria und der Donau
darstellt und damit die kulturelle Drehscheibe
dieser Region ist, sondern auch
in einer Stadt mit Menschen aus über
150 Nationen und mehr als 100 verschiedenen
Religionsgemeinschaften.
Deshalb freue ich mich, dass wir schon
zum 3. Mal ein Fest der Begegnung und
der Völkerverständigung feiern können.
Wenn Sie mit tausenden Künstlerinnen
und Künstlern zum Sängerwettstreit
antreten wird die Klangwolke in der
ganzen Welt hörbar sein.
Wir freuen uns darauf und hoffen, dass
Graz die höchsten Ansprüche an Gastlichkeit
und Gastfreundschaft erfüllen
kann. Neben den Sängerinnen und Sängern
erwarten wir auch sehr viele Gäste,
die sich als Publikum die einzelnen
Bewerbe anhören werden und letztlich
werden sie auch vor höchsten Repräsentanten
der großen Weltreligionen
singen. Deren Applaus soll sie zu künstlerischen
Höchstleitungen anspornen
und ihre Gesang soll bewusst machen,
dass Musik ein ganz eigener Türöffner
ist, wenn es darum geht Mauern und
Grenzen und seien sie auch manchmal
nur mehr in unseren Köpfen, zu überwinden.
Ich wünsche Ihnen einen wunderschönen
Aufenthalt in unserer Stadt.

A warm welcome to Graz, a city which
is not only the entree to a great region
of Europe between the Alps, the Adriatic
and the Danube and therefore the
cultural hub of this region but also
home to citizens from more than 150
nations and more than 100 different
religious denominations.
Thus, I am pleased to celebrate a festival
of meeting and understanding
among nations through choral music
for the third time. Whilst you are competing
with thousands of performers
your music will be heard throughout
the world.
We are looking forward to this event
and hope that Graz meets the highest
expectations of hospitality. Along with
the singers we also expect a large audience
who will listen to the competitions
and ultimately you will also sing
in front of highest representatives of
the world. Their applause shall encourage
you to a supreme performance
and your singing shall remind everyone
that music is a “door-opener” in
terms of overcoming walls and boundaries
even if they persisted only in our
minds. I wish you a very pleasant stay
in our city!
