Helping Children Flourish
Presenter- Pamela Whyte
Parents always strive to ensure that our children are given the
best opportunities possible to become all they are meant to
be. But how is this to be accomplished? What conditions and
experiences can parents encourage and facilitate to ensure
this occurs? What type of home environment should be
created which will best foster our children’s optimal emotional,
intellectual, and social development? Pamela Whyte will present
Dr. Gordon Neufeld’s ground-breaking approach, which reveals
surprising answers to these questions and will help guide
parents in their role to help our children reach their potential.
National Coaching
Certification
Program (NCCP)/
Coach Training
The National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP) is the recognized national
standard for coach training and certification in Canada.
Each year more than 50,000 coaches take an NCCP
course. NCCP courses are designed to meet the needs
of all types of coaches from the first-time coach to the
head coach of a national team. The National Coaching
Certification Program (NCCP) is here to help you be the
best coach that you can be.
When you take an NCCP clinic, you’ll gain technical
abilities as well as leadership and decision-making skills.
NCCP training will open doors to new opportunities in
coaching and in life.
For more information, visit:
www.sportmanitoba.ca/coaching/coach-trainingnccp
Maintenance of Certification
The Coaching Association of Canada and its partners
recognize the value of having certified NCCP coaches
that are engaged in Professional Development programs
which reinforce the values of lifelong learning and
sharing amongst the coaching community.
In order for NCCP coaches to maintain their certified
status, they will be required to obtain Professional
Development (PD) points. PD points can be earned
through a multitude of activities that coaches already
participate in, including: national and provincial sport
organization conferences and workshops, eLearning
modules, NCCP workshops, coach mentorship programs,
and active coaching. In most cases coaches are already
earning their required PD points -- Maintenance of
Certification Status is simply the introduction of tracking
these points and recognizing coaches for their efforts.
As a committee that promotes and supports reading and
literacy, Macdonald Healthy Child has very recently joined
the Little Free Library “global literacy movement”. Little Free
Library is a non-profit organization that supports the worldwide
movement to offer free books housed in small containers to
members of the local community. There are more than twentyfive
thousand libraries in communities worldwide.
The idea is simple – build a box, fill it with books, place it in
an accessible spot and encourage the community to borrow
and share books. Not only is a love of reading and literacy
promoted but a strong sense of community is established and
neighborhoods are engaged. The Little Free Library has been
called, in many communities, a social anchor. Then, of course,
there are the books – there is a story inside these small libraries
for each and every one of us.
Three Little Free Library have been installed so far: one in front
of J.A. Cuddy School, one in front of La Salle School and one in
Central Park in Oak Bluff. While these are not school projects,
schools and parks are great locations for our libraries because
of the foot traffic. Watch for three more libraries to pop up in
the remaining communities in Macdonald very soon! When you
have time, please stop by to borrow a book or leave a book or
both! The library is open to everyone, all of the time.
If you have more than a few books to donate, please contact
Shauna Hewitt at shaunahewitt@mymts.net and for more
information, visit www.littlefreelibary.org.
