Fall 2016 with a completed course,
friends, and a semester under their
belt. This combination will aide
students in their transition to UNM!
The Early Summer Start program
(ESP) provides students with a
highly supportive initial college
experience designed to create
academic momentum, a less
stressful transition to the college
environment, and academic
success. Although any new
freshman admitted to UNM may
participate, ESP was originally
developed to work with students
who were admitted to UNM under
the condition that they complete a
Math or English course during the
summer prior to their first year at
UNM.
Your STEM Future.”
In the afternoon, students
participated in breakout
sessions that introduced them
to undergraduate research
opportunities,
supportive
communities, STEM student
organizations, and career
exploration (among others).
2016 NSO by the Numbers
The New Student Orientation (NSO) Program provides incoming students
assistance in making a successful transition to UNM . NSO programs
are designed to give students a good start in college through services
including: helping students register for classes and get information about
academic programs, student services, and all the university has to offer.
NSO offeres a variety of programs specifically designed for traditional
freshmen, transfer students, non-traditional students, dual credit students,
and family members of new students.
Welcome Back Days & Celebrations
In accordance with the longstanding tradition, the Student Activities
Center hosted Welcome Back Days during the first week of school.
The week kicked off with freshman convocation and class crawl, and
departments and programs tabled the rest of the week near the Duck
Pond to keep students informed about UNM
Several of our departments and programs including AASS. AISS, El
Centro and CEP had welcome back celebrations, barbeques and other
events.
In the evening, students and their
guests participated in an optional
Free Night at Explora.
DYS was a collaborative event
sponsored by more than 50 faculty
and staff members from across
the University. Special thanks to
the School of Architecture and
Planning, the Office of Student
Affairs, and to the many volunteers
who made the day such a success.
