We have been introduced to the
nonfiction homeless unit by way of
watching Maniac Magee. It seems as
the though the most important thing to
Maniac is having a home?
How does Maniac define home?
What were some of the places that he
called home?
How do you define home?
Homeless Unit
Go to the classroom,access the
assignment, and fill in the section
marked K which stands for what you
already know about being homeless as
well as the section marked W which
stands for what you want to learn about
being homeless.
Leave the section marked L blank as we
will fill that section out after we complete
the unit. The L will signify what we
learned about homelessness.

Project Information
You may work with partners to use your knowledge of text structures to create a
magazine about homelessness.
You must use:
● Description - to give a brief description of what it means to be homeless
● Cause and Effect - to highlight some the causes and effects of homelessness
● Problem and Solution - to share some problems of homelessness and what are
some solutions to homelessness.
You will be given a handout with some information to help you but you may go to other
sources as well. Please remember to cite your sources when you are done.

You will be using your knowledge of text structures to create a magazine about
homelessness.
You must use:
● Description - to give a brief description of what it means to be homeless
● Cause and Effect - to highlight some the causes and effects of homelessness
● Problem and Solution - to share some problems of homelessness and what are
some solutions to homelessness.
● Compare and Contrast - Compare homelessness in San Antonio with another city
in the United States OR compare homelessness in the United States with another
country.
Additionally, you will create a video that highlights one of the text structure you used.
You will be given a handout with some information to help you but you may go to other
sources as well. Please remember to cite your sources when you are done.
