Bayside Neighborhood Association (BNA) has been busy over the
summer introducing the benefits of Block Watch to our residents. We
are ready to have the city begin installation throughout Bayside of
the iconic blue signs with black and white graphics.
In function, a block watch neighborhood is one that knows its
residents, is aware of where its most frail and elderly live, is engaged
in the betterment of the environment within its boundaries, and
works with the city and police department in discouraging crime
and vagrancy.
Neighbors who sign up to participate in the anti-crime program
complete a registration form, provided by the City of Everett, which
includes name, address, make and model of car and contact
information.
Five households registered in the Block Watch program in the same
block = One Block Watch sign, according to City of Everett’s crime
prevention officer, Eddie Golden.
Karen McAllister, Chair of BNA has Block Watch registration forms
available or at https://everettwa.gov/472/Block-Watch.
meeting, Officer Eddie
Golden recommended that
updated records of valuables;
take advantage of steering
wheel locking tools, such as
“The Club”
3. Porches and yards be
maintained & litter free;
4. Block Watch groups and
Neighborhood Night Out-type
Living in Bayside is FUN!
Participation and volunteering make Bayside
Neighborhood a better place to live.
Get to know your neighbors, be included in fun
activities, and be “in-the-know” on what annual
events, holiday plans and crime prevention
initiatives are being discussed.
What’s a Bayside Neighborhood Association
meeting like?
- Idea sharing
- Lots of laughter
- Open forum discussions
- Great friendships that expand beyond the
meetings into wine and cheese parties, baseball
games and “Hello’s” when you’re out working in
the yard.
Being an active member of a neighborhood
association is what won Everett its 2012 “Best
American City” award.
We’re neighbors! Let’s be friends!
Be a Part of the Team
Stronger friendships and a sense of
accomplishment is what comes from being on the
front lines of a growing and vibrant organization.
Right now it is more important than ever to make
the conscious decision to pitch in to help steer the
direction of your neighborhood!
Bayside Neighborhood Association invites you to
seriously consider these volunteer positions:
- Co-Chair
- Treasurer
- Social Media Coordinator
- Alternate Rep. for the Council of
Neighborhoods
Contact Karen McAllister for more information
School District Update:
On August 5, the Everett School District hosted a lunch meeting to
bring together neighborhood association leadership with Everett
school district principals and assistant principals. The purpose was to
build relationships and design neighbors-to-schools initiatives that
support collaborations. Contact BNA leadership if working with the
schools on neighborhood initiatives interests you.
Bayside Business Partners:
The Bayside Neighborhood wants to thank all our sponsors for making
the National Night Out Ice Cream social a big success:
American Dream Motors, AquaSox, Body & Brain Yoga, City of Everett,
Everett Tattoo Emporium, Imagine-Children’s Museum, Immaculate
Conception & Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Kate’s Greek & American
Café, Kaleidoscope Printing and Production, Safeway, Scarlet Ibis
Coffee Company, Thrivent, Trinity Lutheran Church, and QFC.
Community Partners:
“Baysiders” treasure their historic park – Clark Park – the location of
civic gatherings that many times include visits from Mayor Ray
Stephanson.
If you and your family enjoy the clean surroundings and well-kept
playground, you have Cate Harrington, director of “Take Back Our
Neighborhood”, to thank.
Please recognize the efforts of “Take Back Our Neighborhood” by
volunteering monthly or quarterly (at least!) to help keep our
neighborhood’s historic park a welcoming place for Bayside families.
Civic pride begins here. Cate Harrington can be reached at
cate_harrington@yahoo.com or 425-501-5369.
House Beautiful – Or Decorative – Or of Historic Excellence:
How fun would it be to haunt Bayside with Halloween decorated
homes, or sprinkle the neighborhood with Candy Cane Lane themed
holiday homes – all glowy and glittery?
Can’t you just envision it? We thought you might like the idea! We
are making a list of volunteers and jotting down suggestions (maybe
you’ve lived in a Candy Cane Lane neighborhood in the past).
Bring your ideas to the Wednesday, September 20 BNA meeting!
Communiqué from the Chair…
September is almost like the start of a new year – back to school begins, churches begin their
stewardship drives and even the government is planning for a new budget. It is also a good time
for our Bayside Community to look towards the future and think about what changes, goals and
events or projects we want to accomplish next year. Planning ahead is essential because our Grant
funding from the City of Everett is due January 2017. What are some of the things, you as a
community, would like to see happen next year? Would you like a new event held, a new meeting
place, drink or nourishment at the meetings (especially since many come directly from work), a new
time or some fun activities? Ideas and suggestions are welcome anytime. Volunteering can be as
easy as starting a conversation or making a “to do list” – just like any of us would do for our family or
home. Email us at bayside.everett.wa@gmail.com or post on our FB page. Who would like to start?
Thank you. Karen McAllister
