SCILworld – A Demonstration
Welcome to this special demonstration of SCILworld –
The Centre for Supply Chain Improvement through Learning!
On behalf of the team at Logistics Learning Alliance, we hope you enjoy
this tour of our exciting, simulated workplace.

Introduction to SCILworld
SCIL is a virtual learning environment, which
provides a comprehensive, cohesive and
structured learning method that enables
individuals and teams to consistently grow their
capabilities, ensuring sustained improvement in
personal and business achievements.
The learning method not only blends different
delivery mechanisms, but also concentrates on
applying new knowledge to the practical
working environment.

Introduction to SCILworld
SCIL is a simulated company in a simulated country,
in a simulated world. Students join SCILplc as a new
employee and interact with other employees in
order to complete tasks, in a risk-free environment.
Students have access to a dedicated, real life LLA
coach throughout the duration of their chosen
course and can contact them directly through a
number of platforms, including telephone, email
and Skype.

When you enter the SCIL learning system and join SCILplc, first of all you meet Charlotte
Ward, the Chief Learning Officer at SCILplc.
Charlotte will tell you about the learning process that new employees will follow and
show you how to use the learning system.

Each person in SCILplc holds information relevant to their role, and some will be more
helpful than others in the way they present this information! You can meet with the
people in our company via either the 'Merged Company Structure' Chart or by clicking
on their location on the 'Map of Homeland'

Let’s start by looking
at the Merged

are three levels of personnel for students to get to know.

Students will also learn

products SCILplc produce
and sell, and more about
the company structure.
Once the student has read
the Chairman’s

they return to the previous
screen.

These presentations will provide information that will be valuable in future
assignments, however we know that it can be difficult to remember everything
when you first join a company so don’t worry too much if you miss anything.
Students can return to the Company Structure at any time!

The Tasks
Now that you have completed your induction to SCILplc, it’s time to look at how
students complete their work. Each assignment is in the form of a ‘Task’ which is
forwarded to you via email. The number of tasks you need to complete will
depend on the course and level you are studying.
Upon enrolment, students are assigned a real-life, LLA coach who will take you
through the unit (depending on your course, your assigned coach may stay with
you for the duration). In the simulation, your coach will provide you with the help
and needed for you to successfully complete your course.

humanitarian and military sectors. All
are driven by one vision - to help
students through to completion of their
programmes. We want you to ask the
questions when you need help and
guidance. It is what we are all here for.

The Tasks
At the start of each unit, students are given a Learning Plan for the unit which can
be edited to suit their own requirements. The learning plan lists all of the tasks to be
completed over the duration of the unit. There is a ‘Guide to Number of Weeks’
which indicates the estimated study time.

Inserting your start
date will give you a
personalised work
plan with accurate
Milestone dates.

The Tasks
Here is an example of a Task. As you
can see, the Task is in the form of a
Memo which is sent from a SCILplc
manager.
In this instance, the memo is from
Samantha Mars. You may receive
memos from a number of different
SCILplc managers and personnel.
The memo will highlight what you
are expected to do to complete
the task. Some tasks will have extra
pieces of detail, such as links to
other websites where you can find
relevant information.

Gathering Information
Now you are ready to start gathering information to begin your task. To complete
the task successfully, students need to ‘meet’ with SCILplc managers and directors
who will help you find the relevant information. You can meet these people (or
revisit the board members) by returning to the Merged Company Structure or Map
of Homeland.

The Homeland Government Information allows us to view more information about
the environment in which SCILplc is based, including the wealth of Homeland, the
resources Homeland uses and other factors, such as politics, transport and the
climate.

Completing the Task
You have now seen all of the areas of SCILplc that you need to visit in order to
complete your task. Once your coach is satisfied that you have completed the
task successfully, you will be sent an email to say you have cleared the
requirements for the task.
Once you have completed every task, your course will be complete and you will
receive a certificate from the awarding organisation within 6-8 weeks.
