SPIRITUAL CARE<br />

<strong>October</strong> Prayer and Healing Service<br />

Thursday, <strong>October</strong> 6 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary<br />

Everyone is invited to gather around the cross, “be<br />

sll” for a half an hour, and pray for their friends,<br />

family, our world, God’s church, and God’s people.<br />

You’re invited to light a candle and parcipate in a<br />

service that includes Scripture readings and music.<br />

Take me for yourself and center yourself in the<br />

presence <strong>of</strong> God in prayer. We <strong>of</strong>fer prayer services<br />

once a month September-May.<br />

Listening Retreat<br />

for Men and Women<br />

Friday Evening, November 11 and<br />

Saturday, November 12<br />

Have you been told that you are a good listener? Do<br />

you feel fulfilled being in relaonship with people<br />

and being present for people in their joys and sorrows?<br />

Have you ever wanted to be trained in the<br />

ministry <strong>of</strong> listening and pastoral care?<br />

This November, <strong>Word</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peace</strong> will host a retreat for<br />

men and women who would like to learn more<br />

about and be trained in the ministry <strong>of</strong> acve listening,<br />

caring for people, being a nonjudgmental presence,<br />

and being in relaonship with others.<br />

Listening to people heals hearts, energizes communies,<br />

and transforms our suffering world. When<br />

you leave this retreat you will be equipped to use<br />

the skills you learned in your relaonships in your<br />

daily life. And, for those people who are interested,<br />

you will have the opportunity to learn more about<br />

the Befriender Ministry at <strong>Word</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peace</strong> and how<br />

you might use your newly-learned skills to serve the<br />

<strong>Word</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peace</strong> community.<br />

Stress Management Group for Teenage Girls<br />

6:30-7:30 pm for 6-8 th grade girls<br />

7:45-8:45 pm for 9-12 th grade girls<br />

In this group we will explore the topics <strong>of</strong> stress and anxiety. We<br />

will learn how to modify our thinking and behavior so we can gain<br />

more confidence in our lives and see how God is with us every<br />

step <strong>of</strong> the way.<br />

Topics Include:<br />

Asserveness skills<br />

Geng through panic aacks<br />

Using anger in a posive way<br />

How to manage worry<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the hardest things we have to face in life is the death <strong>of</strong> a<br />

family member or friend. In this group you will learn how to cope<br />

with the death <strong>of</strong> a loved on by sharing your stories, learning from<br />

others, and navigang through the grieving process.<br />

Topics Include:<br />

Anger<br />

Guilt<br />

Sadness<br />

How to handle holidays and other special dates<br />

Developing coping strategies<br />
