Local amenities include Sainsbury's Local and Co-operative convenience stores together with a wide
range of retailers as well as banking and post office provision within the St Marychurch district centre.
Torquay’s only Waitrose store is located within St Marychurch Road within easy reach of Park Crescent.

St Marychurch is well located with excellent public transport connections not only to the local area but
to Torquay Central Bus and Train station providing travel both regionally and nationally. Local Bus
services include: the 34 to the Willows and Torquay town centre, the SB5 to the Willows and Torbay
Hospital and the 22 which goes from Dawlish Warren through to South Devon College.
Park Crescent is in close proximity to a number of schools such as: St Marychurch Primary School, St
Cuthbert Mayne School, The Spires College and the excellent Torquay Girls and Boys Grammar Schools.
There are a large selection of facilities in St Marychurch and the surrounding area which can meet a
variety of needs, including: Torquay Golf Club, Plainmoor Swimming Pool, Cary Park Tennis Club,
Babbacombe Model Village, Babbacombe Downs and a choice of some glorious Beaches.
H i s t o r y
A complete crescent - comprising a terrace of four large houses dating from c.1840's, were
recently purchased with all being presented in a varying state of disrepair and requiring
complete modernization.
Known originally as numbers 1-4 "Park Crescent"; these properties are hidden behind a high wall
on their western boundary with Park Road in a quiet hidden corner of Torquay.
The Crescent was built on a parcel of land formerly part of a field called "Higher Park" situate in
the Parish of St. Marychurch and in the Manor of Coombe Pafford in the County of Devon".
According to the previous owner - the Mail Coach from London used to come up over Milber
from Newton Abbot and tie up the horses in a metal ring, set in the stone wall near the Park
Road entrance and the mail for the district was handed in through a window of the property.
May 2016
The metal ring is still to be seen just next to the entrance to “Lower Park”.
In 1847 it is documented that Alexander Forsyth, Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s “Talented but
eccentric” gardener occupied No 3 The Crescent on his arrival in Torquay as Brunel had no space
for him on his nearby Watcombe Estate.
