Introduction
Coventry University is investing heavily in our areas
of research expertise, continuing our commitment to
developing talented, world-class researchers with
significant portfolios of impactful, high quality research,
and ensuring the very best of research-informed
teaching for our students. We are growing the global
reputation of our contribution through higher education
and our scholarship is key to our success.
Over the last two years Coventry has established 12
new multi-disciplinary research centres and the Centre
for Trust, Peace and Social Relations is our largest,
most prolific Centre. Drawing on a strong track record
of research in integrated peacebuilding, trust and social
and community relations, the Centre exemplifies the
University’s long-standing commitment to research that
makes a strong impact on society and on the security
and quality of life of ordinary people worldwide.
CTPSR’s research is grounded in the needs of the
individuals, communities and organisations it serves,
and focuses on bringing people together and providing
new evidence, ideas and ways of thinking to help them
in responding to the issues they face. It is not surprising
then that the Centre has active partnerships beyond
academia – with community groups, faith groups,
governments and the corporate sector.
I’m delighted to introduce this inaugural annual report
for one of our flagship research centres, and to share
with you the results of the Centre’s work as it goes
from strength to strength in delivering world-class
research which influences policy and inspires and
provokes others to build a more peaceful world.
Professor John Latham,
Vice Chancellor of Coventry University
The Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations is
distinctive both in terms of the research undertaken
and the approaches used. It is a truly multi-disciplinary
Centre: by drawing from academic disciplines,
knowledge and skills across the social sciences and
beyond, the team tackles many of the most critical and
sensitive contemporary challenges facing society. Its
reputation for working holistically and unfettered by
disciplinary boundaries has already attracted worldleading
scholars to visit and establish collaborations.
