OUR

MISSION

Sunshine Heroes is on a mission to make the world a brighter place. In partnership with local

leaders and developing communities, we build Sunshine Children’s Centers across the globe. Our

purpose is to improve the health, inspire the spirits, and transform the lives of children around

the world through education, healthcare, and recreational activities. In addition, we spread

sunshine here at home by performing small acts of kindness within our local communities. We

invite you to join us in spreading sunshine by performing acts of kindness for your neighbor,

family, friend, or even a complete stranger!

Thank You

DEAR

FRIENDS,

As we look back on 2015, we feel tremendous gratitude for the donors and supporters that make

our work possible.

Our largest project of 2015 was the construction of a life-changing Sunshine Children’s Center in

rural Panama. This distinguished center includes the first-ever computer lab on the island of

Bastimentos, plus provides vocational courses and healthcare to more than 3,000 local residents.

Your support made this all possible!

In addition to Panama, we have several other projects around the world that continue to empower

children through education and health services. We are honored to work with noble partners

across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America that join us in helping children discover their true

potential. At this moment, we have touched the lives of more than 400,000 children in 19

countries. As we look ahead to 2016, our main project will be the completion of a large-scale

Sunshine Children’s Center in Bayaguana of the Dominican Republic. The future is bright for

Sunshine Heroes!

We credit our team with a spirit of continuous improvement, striving to instill hope in more and

more children each year. Please be sure to follow us on social media as we are continuously

providing updates about our humanitarian programs here at home and abroad.

We want to thank you, our dearest friends, for the collective spirit of support you continue to

give. Your kindness and generosity strengthens Sunshine Heroes and embodies the happiness so

needed in our world. From individual donors to valued corporate partners, we look forward to

working together in 2016 and beyond as we spread sunshine across the world!

Sincerely,

Travis & LaRee Hansen

#SpreadSunshine

SPREAD

SUNSHINE

Throughout 2015, we have been able to serve our own communities here at home through our

#SpreadSunshine campaigns. These are special events that encourage local residents to volunteer

and serve those in need. One such project resulted in the preparation of 100 hygiene kits for

refugees that have relocated to Utah. These important hygiene kits included vital personal items

such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, tissues, and basic first-aid supplies. Moving to America is

life-changing for the millions of refugees displaced from their native homes, but these same

individuals have limited access to money, living essentials, and other support upon arrival.

Sunshine Heroes partnered with International Rescue Committee to help our neighbors feel

welcome here in their new home.

PANAMA

Bastimentos

OUR IMPACT

November 2015 marked the opening of our 8th

Sunshine Children’s Center. Sunshine Heroes

partnered with Give & Surf in Bocas del Toro,

Panama. This special center includes a library,

health clinic, playground, and even a small

skate park for kids! Additionally, this is the first

local community center to provide a public

computer lab on the island of Bastimentos.

Local staff, combined with ongoing support from

international interns and volunteers, supervise

educational programs and tutoring services for

the 300+ children living in the Old Bank area.

Our programs are focused on improving the

local illiteracy rate of 81% so that more children

can learn to read and write. This Sunshine

Children’s Center is also the first and only

American Safety & Health Institute training

center in all of Panama. Classes provide health

and safety information to the local community,

teaching how to properly treat cuts and minor

injuries while preventing infections and illness.

The potential impact of the Sunshine Center

will reach over 3,000 people annually!

Project Update

MANA & TANIMA

MALI

Sunshine Heroes Foundation proudly supports the Mali Rising Foundation. In 2010, we partnered

together to build a second Sunshine Children’s Center in Mali, Africa. This second school provides

equal education and opportunities to more than 175 boys and girls each year. Our first school

continues to teach 125 students living in rural Mali. Both Sunshine Children’s Centers strengthen

the academic experience for children and help them grow closer to reaching their goals. The

Sunshine Heroes Foundation believes education is the key to success and supports efforts to

bring such opportunities to rural Africa.

“ I will forever think of

Christmas differently.”

SUNSHINE

CHRISTMAS

Sunshine Heroes Foundation partnered with ShadowLight Foundation in 2015 to sponsor local

families in need during the Christmas season. We were honored to assist 85 gracious families in

the area, providing meaningful Christmas gifts to multiple children and adults. We consulted with

teachers, counselors, and ecclesiastical leaders in the area to determine the genuine needs of

individuals. We then purchased items and collected generous donations to meet household

needs of selected families: shoes, coats, towels, dishes, and a few childhood toys (of course)!

In mid-December, we hosted a large-scale service event that attracted almost 400 volunteers

willing to support the Sunshine Christmas program through wrapping and delivering gifts. Our

volunteers included high school students, church youth groups, and employees of Tesani

Companies. In the words of one volunteer, “Thank you for this experience! It is one I will always

remember. I will forever think of Christmas differently. To think that families that live right by us

might not have a Christmas is heartbreaking. Being able to help was not only a blessing to them,

but to me as well.”
