Developmental Care

Developmental Care is the human counterpart to high tech medical and pharmacological care

in the NICU and seeks to look at each infant individually, using the infant‘s response as the

guide for delivering care. Healthcare professionals do not only have to assure the infants’

survival, but to optimise their developmental course and outcome. Even in the absence of

disability, there are high reported rates of difficulties in attention, behaviour and cognition.

Greater emphasis is now being placed on improvement of neurodevelopmental outcomes.*

Dräger supports developmental care with a wide range of accessories. Our positioning aids aim to reproduce

the infant’s position in utero as closely as possible by creating the physical limits that the pre-term infant is

used to. Within this environment the infant can bring its hand to its mouth, brace its feet against and snuggle

down into its nest.

Appropriate covers for the incubators dampen light and noise. The friendly rounded

shapes of the Caleo plus the colourful textiles used, transform an incubator into a

cozy space and minimizes the disturbances coming from the surrounding equipment.

This also comforts the parents, giving their child the best temporary "home" possible.

Tcore® Temperature Monitoring System

Tcore® – a new non-invasive technology

Tcore employs a unique dual-sensor heat flux

technology, which, following a short ramp-up time,

calculates core body temperature continuously

and accurately.

A simple, self-adhesive sensor placed on the patient's forehead

is all that's required. This single-use sensor can be connected

through a battery-powered adapter to Dräger monitors,

eliminating the need for a dedicated display.

Mild and moderate hypothermia often occurs in patients

undergoing medical procedures and can go unnoticed by

caregivers. Thermal monitoring is not a universal practice,

and many of the methods currently in use deliver insufficient

accuracy or are unreasonably invasive.

Studies have shown that patients who become even mildly

hypothermic during medical procedures have longer recovery

room times, longer ICU stays and require more analgesics than

patients who maintain normal core temperatures. Maintaining

normal core temperature helps reduce infections, complications

and postoperative mortality rates which can lower the total cost

of treatment. In fact, because of the positive impacts, many

insurers provide additional compensation when active thermal

management is used.
