Book Review The Complaints by Ian Rankin This book is a slight diversion from Ian Rankin’s very popular Rebus series – Rebus having previously hung up his handcuffs. As I have enjoyed many of the Rebus detective stories I was hoping I wouldn’t be disappointed. The Complaints is, however, of a similar theme with Malcolm Fox being the slightly maverick detective working in the Complaints and Conducts Department. The storyline begins with the successful investigation into Detective Glen Heaton, suspected of corruption. Malcolm Fox is then given the task of investigating another officer, Jamie Breck, who is believed to be involved in child pornography. The story takes a turn as Fox becomes personally involved when his sister’s partner is found murdered. Fox himself becomes the focus of investigation and is suspended from duties. He forms an alliance and then friendship with Jamie Breck as they try to root out the bad apples, finding corruption at many levels. I will certainly be following more adventures of Malcolm Fox as I did enjoy the book and found it a good read with twists and turns and a smattering of one line quips.
