DAVID MOUNTAIN
1962 Gretsch 6120 Double Cut
After a couple of false starts on my account
(David and his dad have the best collection
of Gretsch guitars going, but I have ignored
them until now), it is really cool to be able
to show you a nice old ‘un.
I asked David to give me a quick
description, here is what he had to say
about it,
“It's a late 1962 serial number Gretsch 6120
Double Cutaway. This still has the original
white cowboy case and is finished in the
classic Western Orange.
1962 was the first year the 6120 was
offered as a Double Cutaway, and it has an
Ebony Fingerboard with Thumb Print inlays,
Two Filterton pickups, the original Lever
Mute System and a lovely soft black pad
to the rear.
In 1966 the 6120 Double Cut became
known as the Nashville model boasting a
headstock plaque. It is in beautiful
condition and all original even the felt on
the mute system.”
And you have to say it is everything you
could want in an old Gretsch, the perfect
colour (in my humblest of opinions) and
beautifully looked after by people who
know what they are doing.
Hopefully we can look at more of David’s
guitars in the coming months.
