FEEDING & HEALTH
Winter Feeding
on a Budget
As the winter months
are just around the
corner, so are the
increases in costs that we
associate with the change
in our horse’s routine that
we experience during this
time. Throughout the
summer, our horses are
turned out for longer periods
and have readily available
grazing, that more often
than not, does not require
supplementation in the form
of haylage or hard feed.
By including a high quality feed balancer
in your horse’s diet from the Blue Chip
range, you can ensure that as well as
achieving excellent value for money, you
are providing a nutritionally balanced diet
suitable for every type of horse or pony.
Throughout the winter, horses typically
use around 80% of their feed energy
to maintain vital metabolic processes
and a constant body temperature, so by
utilising a Blue Chip Balancer, which
contain an EU approved probiotic in their
100% natural, whole cereal and molasses
free forulas, fibre digestibility doubles,
allowing more ‘warming energy’ to be
obtained from the forage that you include
in your horse’s diet. The probiotic also
balances gut bacteria and aids efficient
nutrient absorption, which increases the
proportion of the carefully balanced levels
of vitamins, minerals and nutrients in
Blue Chip feeds which are utilised by your
horse. o further benefit digestion and gut
health as the diet changes, each Blue Chip
balancer is formulated with Nucleotides,
the building blocks of DNA, which
increase the length of intestinal villi,
increasing the surface area available for
absorption and also, they are integral in
aiding the immune response by increasing
white blood cell levels a factor which
is important to help ward off harmful
pathogens which could be carried in the
air as a result of the confines of stabling.
day. Each balancer in the range includes
all the high quality ingredients packed
into each pellet of our other balancers,
such as the comprehensive menthol and
eucalyptus based respiratory supplement,
PrimoVentoTM and SoundHoofTM,
which contains zinc, methionine and
biotin to promote healthy horn growth
in wet winter conditions, but also, each
Super Concentrated Balancer is tailored
to a specific purpose. he range includes
a Senior Balancer, which contains
Chaste Tree Berry extract as part of
the CushinComboTM supplement to
help maintain pituitary gland function
in the older horse, where Cushing’s
Disease can become prevalent as a
result of the dysfunction of this gland,
alongside Glucosamine and MSM for joint
maintenance.
Providing the correct diet for a veteran is essential
throughout Winter
The newest addition to the Super
Concentrated range is the ULSA-COOL
balancer, that incorporates AcidBalTM,
an acid buffering agent comprised of
Lithothamnion which is derived from
marine minerals and can help to alter
gut pH balance by slowly releasing
calcium, magnesium and silicon, over a
prolonged period to enhance the buffering
effect it has on stomach acids. ULSA-
OO also benefits fro the addition of
Beta-Glucans, which coat the stomach
lining with a protective fil and slow
the passage of feed, keeping the stomach
fuller for longer therefore creating a
less acidic environment. Also available
are the Calming balancer, which has all
the benefits of a balancer and caling
supplement in one handy tub and Daily
Health balancer, which will provide your
horse with the daily vitamins, minerals
and nutrients that he needs to thrive.
