Around the Bend...
By Jim Hirsch, Managing Editor
“A Porsche is not an Everyday Sports Car.
It is a Sports Car for Everyday.” This truism greeted
every visitor to the “Porsche Zentrum” located above
the front straight at Laguna Seca during Rennsport Reunion
V. It reminds me, as it should remind you, that
the true joy of owning a Porsche vehicle happens when
you drive it as often as possible.
There is nothing more exciting to a Maverick member
than seeing a Porsche on the road to anywhere - the
grocery store, coffee shop, one of our many toll roads,
or even to a club event. These engineering marvels
from Germany were designed to be “driven hard and
put away wet”, as the saying goes.
I certainly understand the time we all put into keeping
our club rides clean and polished to a magnificent
lustre means we don’t want to repeat the effort. Remember
that dust, dirt, the occasional piece of gravel,
and even a rain drop or two, were all anticipated by
the Porsche engineers as they designed and built these
amazing machines. You’re actually creating the future
patina of your vehicle each time you drive it!
So, the next time you decide to keep your Porsche
in the garage because it’s too clean to drive, remind
yourself that it is a sports car for everyday
and needs regular exercise rain or shine. The
smile on your face that you get while driving
it will more than replace any additional time
needed to clean your vehicle when you return.
I’m pleased to welcome two new members to our
club Board this month. Cindy Bliss has agreed to be our
Advertising Chair. She will be responsible for communicating
with our advertisers in Slipstream and making
certain that everyone benefits from their sponsorship.
If you have any questions regarding our advertising
program, you can contact Cindy at ads@mavpca.org.
By the way, I hope you mention that you saw their ads
in Slipstream each time you visit or contact one of our
advertisers.
In addition, Chris Flaugh has volunteered to be our
Goodie Store Chair. A great way to show your Maverick
pride is to wear items specifically designed with our
club logo. Check out the offerings via the Goodie Store
link on our web site. If you find an item in the PCA web
store that you would like to be in our own store, contact
Chris at goodiestore@mavpca.org. Also, if you need a
club name badge, you can contact Chris at nametags@
mavpca.org and he will assist you in that order.
Finally, in our newest Slipstream initiative - Mav Photos
of the Month - the focus for this month was wheels.
Thanks to our members for submitting these great
photos shown below.
For the April issue, our focus is interior/
upholstery, so send your photo submissions to
editor@mavpca.org or post them on our
Maverick Region Porsche Club of America
Facebook group page by March 10.
