go wrong they tell their parents “I wish I 

was dead. That will fix you.” This time they 

said “I will vote for the greater of two evils 

that will make you listen to us.” Well we are 

listening, but only to try to outsmart you or 

educate you because really, the majority of 

the US needs some discipline.

THE ART OF THE EMOJI 

If you have a cell phone you have probably 

used an emoji. The small yellow circles on 

the page that contains the letters, numbers, 

and punctuation symbols used in your text 

messages are the emoji’s. 

The emoji came was invented in the late 

1990’s in Japan by a man named Shigetaka 

Kurita. He worked with a teem employed 

by the DoCOMo corporation involved in 

mobile communications. During the early 

mid 1990’s prior to the mobile phone, 

people in Japan had pagers called Pocket 

Bells. There was one symbol, the heart on 

this devise that was very popular, especially 

among young people. When a new version 

of the Pocket Bell was introduced it did not 

include the heart symbol. This brought an 

outcry threatening people to drop the use 

of the Pocket Bell. At that point DoCOMo 

decided to work on a new graphic project 

to increase the use of symbols.

Right? Then you say certain words 

and because one person doesn’t like 

those words, then you must submit an 

apology or explain your reasoning? Fuck 

no! If I said it, it’s out there. There is 

nothing you can do but accept it. If it was 

a drunken mistake, then it was a mostly 

true mistake. We all make mistakes. Get 

over it. We all say things out of anger or 

other emotions. 

I find it incredibly idiotic that a famous 

person says something hateful or just a 

quote that one damn person doesn’t like, 

and they must apologize? No. If I said 

something and I really regretted it, then 

I will apologize. But just to tame others 

reactions? No. Back off and move on. 

What about the other HALF who agree 

with my statement? Now you are in a 

hypocritical area. You CAN’T please 

everyone, so don’t bother trying. I am 

true to myself, true to my convictions, 

true blue. I won’t apologize for that. That 

is what makes me, me. My words, my 

convictions, my actions. They are mine 

and you are going to have to deal with it. 

Like I do with yours. 

With an upcoming election, now is the 

time for MANY, MANY, MANY different 

opinions. Opinions that anger people. 

You all need to get over that, push it 

aside and accept people for their many 

other qualities. We have many qualities 

because we are human. No one is ever 

going to be 100% on board with you, so 

just let the things you don’t like tag along 

in the dingy.

work being done in Cathedral City 

- Date Palm and Cathedral Canyon, 

and soon work will begin on the 

Ramon Road and Cathedral Canyon 

bridges. Keep an eye on discover 

cathedral city.com for traffic updates. 

In Palm Springs various housing projects 

are being discussed and voted on 

by the council. Palm Springs will also 

be discussing allowing marijuana cultivation 

facilities - I’m sure that will 

increase industrial property values. 

Rancho Mirage continues to be recalcitrant 

on CVLink, even trying to 

stop other cities from moving forward 

- even after CVAG received the 

last of funding with a $27 million 

grant from the state of California

CC and DHS - Should the cities look 

at consolidation of public safety services 

(police and fire) to save money

City. He has made his name in governmental circles 

as an expert in transportation issues and is very active 

in working on bringing passenger rail service to the 

COACHELLA Valley. Greg was the first openly gay 

elected city council members In Riverside County. He 

has served on the boards of the National League of 

Cities and the League of California Cities and as President 

of the Southern CA Association of Governments.
