Jobs, money, kids,
this is what most people
think that stress comes
from. But they are wrong
because stress mainly
comes from confusion and
emotions. Sometimes our
bodies break down
because of stress. When
we argue it causes a lot
of stress because it’s
hard to communicate with
someone when you both
are screaming at each
other, and that also can
cause stress very easily.
But most of the time it is
our body's natural
response to the demands
we put upon us. This is
because stress comes
from within our body. We
can do something about
it. One way is to yoga or
meditation. It’s simple.
Close your eyes and
breathe and stand in one
of the yoga pose. There
are other ways too. Like
use positive self talk. And
get more rest. Drinking a
cup of water helps too. If
you feel stressed before
bed, a cup of milk will do
the trick.
Certain medicines
can help reduce stress as
well. Some medicines that
work the best are Natural
Calming Pills, and Super
Stress B-complex.
If you ignore the
problem, it will get worse.
Frequent or chronic stress
can make your heart rate
increase, breathing
quicken, muscle tighten,
and blood pressure rise.
But, it’s not really possible.
How is homework
stressful? Well according
to adolescents “this
homework is killing me!!!”.
Well some bombing is
killing people. Isil is
threatening to conquer
Rome.They haven’t yet,
but still. Just think, would
you be stressed? Families
have lost brothers, sisters,
aunts, uncles, fathers,
mothers and more! That is
stressful!How stressful is
homework.If you think
about it it’s not that
stressful.
Now what if your
family could be gone.
What would happen if
you woke up and they
were gone. Now think,
would that be stressful.
Why would you be
stressed about
homework.If you were
them you should be
stressed.
“Homework is
stressful but bombing is
more stressful because it
destroys homes, people
and cities. I think people
would be scared and that
causes stress. People don’t
live their normal lives.
They aren’t on their
schedules and this all can
cause stress. This is why
bombing is more stressful
than homework. “ Says a
student from Kingsbury
Country Day school. She
says that bombing is
stressful because you
could lose a lot. All you
could lose from
homework is a bad report
card. Why is homework
stressful well it shouldn’t
be. But the kids in Italy
can be stressed. Their
parents could die when
they're at school. Why are
we worrying about
grades? The kids in Italy
can be scared. Now, do
you really think
homework is that
stressful.
Stress Interview Featuring Mrs. Prawdzik.
Exhibition
By: Emily Levine, Clara Stec, Evan
Raya, Domenico Cerqua, Jack
McDonald, and Max Brodsky
On Friday, September 30th we
interviewed a first grade teacher named Mrs.
Prawdzik on stress. We asked her several
questions on how she handled her stress with
Exhibition and teaching. She answered our
questions in great detail. Here was her response.
Mrs. Prawdzik has been mentoring
exhibition for at least seven years. Emily Levine
had Mrs. Prawdzik as her mentor for exhibition and
she says that Mrs. Prawdzik helped her exhibition
group stay focuses on the project. Emily could tell
that Mrs. Prawdzik was handling her stress very
well. Mrs. Prawdzik said that the most stressful part
of exhibition was meeting with her group. It was
also stressful when the students were not prepared
and didn’t get their work done. To her, Exhibition
Night was the most stressful part. You never know
4
if the electronics could have problems. Mrs.
Prawdzik also had a lot of times where
Exhibition wasn't stressful. She didn’t have any
stressful work during Exhibition
and she didn’t think that the final presentation
was very stressful. Overall, Mrs. Prawdzik loves
mentoring groups for Exhibition.
“The interview with Mrs. Prawdzik.”
Stress in General
We asked Mrs. Prawdzik some more
questions on her stress. She said that she
controls her stress by taking deep breathes,
being patient, and getting lots of sleep. Her
most stressful part of the day is dismissal
because all of the kids are tired and out of
control which causes them to be bad
listeners. We asked Mrs. Prawdzik if her
family stresses her out. She said, “yes!”
because she has two older children that can
drive and her son still lives with her. Mrs.
Prawdzik can get stressed out while her son
is driving around with a storm outside. She
said that it was more stressful when her
kids were younger. In conclusion, Mrs.
Prawdzik would like to say that you learn
how to deal with stress from your
experiences. It's okay if you cry sometimes.
Tests
Family
Things aren’t always
black and white when
dealing with relatives.
There will always be hard
times with your family;
such as divorces or family
arguments. But there are
always ways for coping.
For example, many people
have found that exercising
is an amazing way to deal
with stress.
Tests are very big stressors, but
the good thing is there are many ways
to prepare yourself. For example, there
are those who benefit from re-writing
information. Or there are people who
have succeeded in studying orally.
Friends
Body Image
Accepting your
body is one of most
challenging things to ask
of yourself. Everyone is
so focused on being the
perfect size. Many
develop diseases like
anorexia that have a
higher mortality rate than
any other mental illness.
Many people have found
that doing activities that
you enjoy can help you
start to feel comfortable
in your skin. For
example, getting a new
outfit can help boost self
confidence. As well as
completing exercises.
Friends always get in fights but
always make up in the end.
Peacefully talk it out together to find a
solution.
Want Advice?
1.) You receive a Spanish project with three other group mates. They are talking. They tell you to
work on the project alone. You receive lots of pressure. You don't want to lose your friends, but you
don't want to do all of the work alone on the project.
What would you do?
A. Do all of the work
Yourself
B. Tell the teacher
that your friends won't work.
C. Tell your group that they have to work
with you ( you won’t do all of the work)
D. Don't do any work at all
2.) You finish the school day with multiple pages of homework in every class. You also have soccer
practice immediately after school, and your grandma has come all the way from a different state to take
you out for dinner. (There is no way out of going to dinner and the only way out of soccer is quitting the
team.)
What would you do?
A. Not do your homework at all
B. Stay up till very late/early in the morning and be very tired
C. Quit the team
D. Stay on the team and do as much homework as you can and try to explain it
to the teacher the next day.
Our Answers For Number 1
Molly’s answer for #1: I would choose answer C because I wouldn't want to do all the work. If you tell
your friends how you feel, chances are that they’ll listen to you. I would avoid telling the teacher unless
they refuse doing anything because that could make things worse for you and your friends.
David’s answer for #1: I would choose C because I don't want to be that guy that ruins the fun for your
friends by telling the teacher, but I still will want them to do work.
Michaels’s answer for #1: I would choose “C” and if my group still didn’t do anything I would tell the
teacher.
Sam’s answer for #1: I would choose C because I would want to give my group a chance first but if
they still wouldn't do work I would choose B because usually the teacher should be able to help you
with your group.
Richard answer for #1: I would choose C because that way if you finish your section you can be graded
on what you did. Then you will get a grade and you don't fall behind in school.
Our Answers for Number 2
David’s answer for #2: I would choose B because if you’re like me you can survive a night with only an
hour or two of sleep, which is what i do on a monthly basis.
Molly’s answer for #2: I would choose D because I wouldn't want to quit the team, but I want to get my
homework done. You can always take a lower grade.
Sam’s answer for number 2: I would choose B because I would rather be very tired than get a bad
grade in a class or have to play catch up in a class.
Michael’s answer to #2: I would pick B so that I don’t have to quit the team, but I still would get good
grades.
Richards answer for #2: I would choose B I can stay up late for Homework and I would rather be tired
the next day. with it than have bad grades because harder to bring up your grades than take a nap.
A Scary Night at Home
By Emily S. and Jasmine B.
“Bye” Jessica's mom said as she left the
house. Yes, I'm finally home alone, Jessica
thought. Now I can play video games, call my
friends, and boss around my little sister, Lilly.
Little did she know that soon someone was going to
break into her house. Meanwhile as she was playing
her video games she heard the doorbell ring,
thinking to herself that it would go away. She heard
it every couple minutes. Starting to feel stressed
out,she went upstairs to see if they would leave .
Then it hit her that someone wanted in. She started
to get overwhelmed. Crash!!! She hears the window
break. The alarms go off, making her feel even
more stressed. Then she sees them. Three men run
through the place where the window used to be.
They wore all black shirts, pants, and ski masks.
They also each held big bags. She quietly ran
downstairs, grabbing her phone off the table.
“Lilly, be quiet and follow me, I will
explain everything, once we find a hiding
spot”. Jessica and Lilly ended up hiding in
the storage room in the basement. They
remembered their was a bag in the basement
for any emergencies. In the bag there was
snacks, water bottles, and things to do. They
heard the people upstairs walking around
their house. “Lilly, I think there are robbers
in the house” Jessica told Lilly in a strained
voice. Jessica turned her phone on. First she
called 911. “Hello, we have an emergency,
there are robbers in our house and they don't
know we are here. Please come as fast as
possible”. She also called her mom. “Hi
mom, we have an emergency. There are
robbers in the house, but don't worry they
don't know we are here and so far we are
safe. But you need to come home, as soon as
possible”.
12
A Scary Night at Home
(continued)
For about an hour we stayed in the storage
room, and eventually they heard the police sirens
coming on the main street. The cops arrived and
searched the house, not knowing that they would
find someone. After searching forever the cops
finally found the robbers. Eventually the cops
found Jessica and Lilly in the basement storage
room. When the cops were done arresting the
robbers, jessica and lilly told the cop everything,
so the cops could get details on what had
happened. Their parents got home and they also
told their parents everything and that they were
safe and sound.
Stress Balls
We all know that feeling. When your work is piling up, when you have to be two places at
once, or basically anytime you have an overwhelming amount of things to do. This feeling is
stress.
When you are stressed out, you tend to tense up or just generally start freaking out.
Sometimes you just need to fidget. Stress balls are perfect for that. Some people might say that
they are distracting. However, most of the time fidgeting helps people stay focused. When you are
using a stress ball, it makes you less stressed. Some people try breathing exercises, but that takes
more thinking. With a stress ball, you don’t have to think about anything.
You can find stress balls almost anywhere. If you want to make them yourself, there are lots
of ways you can do that. There are a lot of YouTube videos and other ideas out there.
White Noise
When you listen to white noise, you generally feel more relaxed. No
matter what you listen to, a peaceful rainforest or even a loud
thunderstorm. Studies have proved that this is true. You can use white
noise when you are going to bed, getting ready in the morning, or even
when you are doing your homework. You can listen to nature sounds,
music (most likely with no words), and lots of other types of white noise.
22
White noise is the
choice!
If you are nervous or stressed out, just turn on some White Noise! It
will help you feel more relaxed and relieve stress!
You can get White
Noise machines like
this at target or your
local hardware store
Essential Oils
There are lots of different types of essential oils. You may not
realize it, but essential oils help relieve stress. Essential oils are
calming, and great for relieving stress.
Lack of sleep is one thing that causes stress because the less
sleep you have, the less patience you have, and the less patience
you have, the more you stress out. If you have trouble sleeping, you
can rub essential oils on your feet and hands before bed. In this case,
a good essential oil is coconut oil.
Overall, if you get stressed out, lavender oil is really good for
relieving it. Below are the best essential oils for stress.
24
Essential Oils
Yoga
Yoga is a perfect way to relieve stress! Yoga not only gets rid of
stress but it stretches muscles and is very healthy for the mind and
body.
When you do yoga choose a place that calms you, yoga mats are
a first choice but if you don’t have a yoga mat a soft area or carpet
works too. Wear clothes that you are comfortable in and aren’t too
sweaty, because yoga still is a workout! Having a bottle of water
nearby is also a good idea. If you like listening to music, pandora has
a calming music station. But if you like the quiet like me, the sound of
nothing is calming enough. When you do yoga, make sure to take
deep in and out breaths.
