Maverick Minutes by Michael Wingfield Park Place Porsche hosted the February 2005 Maverick Region Board meeting on February 7, 2005. Thank you to Randall Johnson and the entire Park Place Porsche staff for allowing the Maverick Region to hold the Board Meeting at their showroom. The February meeting had the following 13 members in attendance: Executive Council: Rocky Johnson, Mark Gluck, Jeff Atkins, and Michael Wingfield; Board Members: Lanean Hughes, Bill Miller, Chuck Machala, Wendy Shoffit, Joe McGlohen, Dennis Chamberlain, Joel Nannis, Matt Platts, and Bill Dawson. Rocky Johnson called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM and began the “round table” discussion. Lanean Hughes: PCA 50th Anniversary Goodie Store items are now available on the PCA web site. PCA is promoting two Treffen tours to Germany, with info on the PCA web site. Hope Shelter construction documents are in process, with $37,000 collected of the estimated $180,000-$200,000 rebuilding cost. However, much of the total cost will include donated time and materials. MR will host a PCA Club Race at MSR over Memorial Day weekend in May, and still needs volunteers. All race profits will go to Hope Shelter. MR needs to submit candidates for the Parade ’05 National Awards. Ted Kelly from Oklahoma is the new Zone 5 Rep. Wendy Shoffit: AX101 school accepted 26 applications, is sold out and has a waiting list. The Ladies’ AX school has room for entrants and needs more volunteers. AX102 will accept 32 applications making it sold out with a waiting list. TT103 will accept 26 applications and has room for 2 more. Each event needs more volunteer workers who will receive a FREE lunch for helping (Who said there was no free lunch?). Requests more articles from the membership for Slipstream. Slipstream article submission deadline is the 15th of the month prior to publication. The Passing of a Friend The Porsche club lost a fine man - Bob Ande. He was 64 and is survived by his sister, Judy Masotti of 2114 Bellcrest Ct. Royal Palm Beach Fl 33411. Bob drove a 1975 911 S called Jellybean. He had returned to the Maverick Region from Massachusetts were he had spent 6 years before retiring. He is now autocrossing and DE’ing in the sky. Our sympathy goes out to his sister and her husband, Lou and all the rest of his friends who will miss him. Joe McGlohen: Ordered AX radios and expects delivery tomorrow. Located a Pelican plastic case to store the 12 AX radios. Of the original $800 expense approval, has spent $485 and can get a $15 rebate on each pair of radios ordered. Some DE radios need service with one bad radio and three bad batteries. Makes a motion requesting $600 to replace the failed DE radio components. Motion seconded and carried unanimously. SCCA will hold a corner worker school (Crash & Burn) at Texas World Speedway. Makes motion for $250 to help support the school. Motion seconded and carried. MR will rent the DE radios and flags to the BMWCCA for use at the BMW DE at MSR, with a rental fee of $350 for the weekend. Mark Gluck: Event insurance needs listed and ready to submit. AX waiver forms given to Wendy and DE waiver forms given to Michael. Suggests investigating an automatic email program to notify members of selected events. Will discuss with Steve Boyd to see if the web site can host subscriptions. Dennis Chamberlain: Has the event ads ready to go for the next issue of Slipstream. Posters for the Happy Hour (HH) events cost about $5.50 each, and will begin submitting receipts to the club to cover those costs. SeaGrill will host the next Happy Hour on 2/17. The HH turnout at Saltgrass was low due to conflict with the new ’05 Boxster party held at Boardwalk Porsche. Continues to send email notices of upcoming HH events to new members (members less than six months). Unfortunately, folks are “walking checks” at the HH events. December HH had three folks walk dinner checks. The earlier D&B HH had 26 RSVP attendees, but 51 people showed up. The walked checks totaled $250. Reminds the membership that each HH attendee is responsible for own check! Michael Wingfield: February DE at MSR sold out and has a waiting list. The application for the May DE held in conjunction with the Club Race will appear on the MR website and Slipstream shortly. Registration opens immediately for the May DE. Jeff Atkins: Has received more information from Bob Knight (who stopped by briefly before the meeting) and is ready to close the Bank of America account. Joel Nannis: National Membership list still has problems delivering membership information to the regions. Bill Dawson: February MSR DE hosted by Ruf Auto Centre will have Mr. Alois Ruf in attendance. Rocky Johnson: Park Place Porsche will sponsor the April 3 AX held at Texas Motor Speedway. Would like to see some form of DE awards to join the AX/TT awards presented at Founder’s Day. The February meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM. Future Board Meetings Rocky Johnson will host the March Board meeting at his home on Monday, March 7, 2005. Fifth Gear in Lewisville will host the April Board meeting, and Boardwalk Porsche in Plano will host the May Board meeting.
Happy Hour at Saltgrass Steakhouse by Dennis Chamberlain Happy Hour Crew: Dennis Chamberlain, Monda Degan and Mike Lockas Our timing for the January 20 Happy Hour wasn’t the best, since Boardwalk Porsche was having its unveiling party for the 2005 Boxster the same night. However, ourturnout was twenty-eight, which under the circumstances, was respectable enough. Looking outward to March, April and May, we’ve got Cantina Laredo on March 17, the Bavarian Grill in Plano on April 21, and Joe T. Garcia’s in Ft. Worth on May 19. Hope to see you at one or all of those spots!
