ABOUT SINFO
ABOUT SINFO
SINFO is a college student and non-profitable organization responsible for the planning of one of the biggest Tech
events in Portugal. It’s an annual conference that takes place at the Alameda Campus of Técnico Lisboa, in the biggest
city of Portugal, Lisbon. The conference has the duration of one week, usually during the month of February.
Since the beginning, the main goal of the organizing committee has been improving the conference every year by
allowing the attendants to interact not only with the speakers, who usually are influential and interesting people in
the world of Computer Science, but also by getting connected and allowing them to get to know the most interesting
companies, where they can end up working in the future. And for what is worth we’ve accomplished that main
purpose. Each year, the quality of the speakers has improved, as well as the number of companies and participants.
We are honored with their presence and active participation. Last year’s edition revolutionized SINFO as we know it,
because for the first time its history all the different spaces and sections were joined in a huge tent in the middle of
the campus. We had a record breaking attendance of participants - achievement we hope to repeat next year, from
the 20th to the 24th of February 2017.
MISSION
At SINFO, our mission is to give students and general attendants the opportunity
to interact and get closer to influential and thriving people in the fields of Information
Technology and Computer Science. We also bring tech companies of major
relevance to our attendants so they can communicate with those companies’
employees, share experiences and maybe find a future position.
We try to make it happen every day with dedication, by continuously improving
the quality of our event, not only by bringing new speakers for every edition but
also innovativing companies and startups that share our love for technology.
VISION
We live in an increasingly technological world in constant and swirling motion,
where Computer Science and IT play fundamental roles. For the last 23 editions
SINFO has been the bridge between that world and the student community.
Every single one of them sums up several months of dedication and hard work
laid out by its members, who are driven by the rewarding smiles of SINFO’s participants
and the desire to surpass themselves every year. We like to think we’ve
managed to do both hitherto. Our goal is to inspire and be inspired.
TARGET
We are mainly focused on bringing the ultimate technological experience to the student community. Nonetheless,
everyone fascinated by IT or seeking a new career opportunity is welcome to join us.

SINFO 23
The 23rd edition of SINFO happened between the 22nd and the 26th of February of 2016. Being one of the most important
tech events in Portugal, once again SINFO 23 did not disappoint its main audience: students of technology,
interested in innovation, gaming, computing, science and, most importantly, top world challenges.
In each day, six presentations took place. In the morning, SINFO provided room for enterprises to give their lectures.
Later on, it was time for a few selected speakers to talk about their work and share to the audience their research
interests and expectancies. Six days in which some of the worldwide greatest names of technology were gathered
in Lisbon, telling the students stories about the past and how to make the future a place for history.
At SINFO, our mission is to give students and general attendants the opportunity to interact and be closer to influential and
thriving people in the fields of Information Technology and Computer Science. We also bring tech companies of major relevance
to our attendants so they can communicate with those companies’ employees, share experiences and maybe, who knows find
We try to deliver that mission every day with dedication, by continuously improving the quality of our event, not only by bringing
speakers
humans after all
On an average of three presentations per day, individual speakers gave their
talks in the Main Auditorium. They talked about a subject related to their field
as well as their careers and the ways they found useful to take over specific
problems and deal with particular challenges.
As in the enterprises’ presentations, after an individual speaker had talked,
people attending the seminar could ask questions. Furthermore, SINFO’s organising
committee also provided a showcase lounge, so the speakers could
have a closer contact with the students.
In the end, they all shared their professional experiences, reminding us that
they were also students once and telling us what they have done in order to
achieve success.
The 23rd edition of SINFO was graced by the presence of renowned national
and international scientists, such as Danielle Feinberg (Pixar), David Jacoby
(Kaspersky Labs), Paul Mockapetris (DNS co-inventor) e Oscar Clark (Unity),
Tiago Paiva (TalkDesk), among many others.
Parallell to all these activities, there were also stands where companies and start-ups could show their work, introduce themselves,
start networking and give off merchandising.
A place for gaming is a must have in an event like SINFO, where the students attending the conference can enjoy a variety of
games for the Xbox console.
At the end of each presentation (company or speaker), a raffle was held where the attendees could win prizes. Before entering
the auditorium, participants were handed a numbered ticket with the presentation’s title and a QR code. The number was used
in the raffle and the participants could redeem the QR code via the SINFO website. At the end of the event, the one with higher
number of redeemed QR codes was awarded a prize. The website could also be used to submit the curriculum vitae, and one of
those who submitted the CV could also win a prize.
Finally, during the whole event, at our stand, we had a wheel of fortune where contestants could win several prizes, ranging from
FNAC vouchers to SINFO merchandising (t-shirts, powerbanks, mugs, among others).
SINFO 24
SINFO 24
Since the end of SINFO’s last edition, many things have changed! We have a renewed team and our batteries are recharged
to bring to our collegues, once more, the next edition of our event, SINFO 24! Our little fellow mascot, Hacky,
didn’t stop for a minute and has already done some tricks.
The 24th edition of SINFO will be from the 20th to the 24th of February 2017, and we can guarantee it will be the
all-time best edition. After the huge success of the 23rd edition, we will keep on bringing the best possible speaker
lineup, as well as the best companies in the area. Our goal is to provide to SINFO’s audience an unique experience and
an opportunity for each participant to develop their main interests and, of course, their networks.
For achieving that purpose we offer a stand exhibition where the students can meet the best national and some
international companies interested in recruiting them, the keynotes of international and world known speakers, and
last but not least, the several tech-related workshops we offer during each day of the event. Everything can be found
together in the same physical space, the SINFO’s tent!
We can promise SINFO 24 is going to be the best week ever for IT lovers.
ROADMAP
ROADMAP
Starting a new edition of SINFO requires a very first step that involves looking attentively at the last edition, identifying failures
and successes. A few members of the organizing committee might have to leave, which means that new members must join
the team - actually, right after the end of one more edition of SINFO, the organizing committee changes in order to suffice new
requirements and challenges, welcome new collaborators and, if necessary, open new teams and departments.
In July, it’s time to start contacting the speakers for the next edition of SINFO. All the logistic details also start being thought at
this month. Building SINFO requires not only a huge tent, but also a huge amount of time. We aim to provide the best conditions
to our colleagues year after year, which means preparing everything in advance.
Only in September we start looking for sponsor’ partners. Every collaborator of SINFO’s organizing committee must get involved
in both contacts to speakers and future sponsors. It’s not an one-person job, it is instead a teamwork. It is also a job that must
be done until the end of SINFO.
It is also in September that we iniciate the contact with other companies/entities in order to establish partnerships beneficial for
both sides.
Between October and December, it’s necessary to start working in our design materials, website and communication tools. We
must lauch SINFO’s new edition early January - the latest.
During the week before SINFO, the most stressful period comes along with all the last-minute tasks we must do. It’s time for
final details, building the tent and preparing the infra-structutures that will host the event.
