COMMUNITY AWARENESS Helping reduce your risk of dementia Based on the Your Brain Matters TM program. This program has been specifically tailored to provide CALD community members with an understanding of the strategies they can implement that may reduce their risk of developing dementia. A number of health and lifestyle factors are associated with brain function and this session addresses these issues. Duration: 1 hour Suitable for: CALD community groups Cost, venue, dates & times: Go to vic.fightdementia.org.au/education or call 03 9816 5708 Understanding dementia This session will provide an understanding of dementia by first exploring how a healthy brain works. It will address the main causes, key signs and symptoms of dementia and explain why behavioural changes occur. Risk factors for dementia as well as common myths and misconceptions about dementia will also be discussed. A brief overview of Alzheimer’s Australia Vic support services will conclude the session. Duration: 1 hour Suitable for: CALD community groups Cost, venue, dates & times: Go to vic.fightdementia.org.au/education or call 03 9816 5708 Volunteer companion workshops In this interactive workshop, learn how dementia can impact on a person’s physical and psychological wellwwbeing and what you, as a volunteer companion, can do to engage the person with dementia and build on their remaining skills and interests. NB: This program is not suitable for family carers.
