Driving On: In With the New

It’s been a great ride for the past
four years as your Maverick Region
President, and now it’s time for me
to turn the steering wheel over to another
very capable Maverick (who will
have been elected at the Founders’
Day event at the end of November).
Honestly: I’ve had a great time being your Pres. and
having the privilege of working with so many passionate
and enthusiastic volunteers (most of their names
and/or pictures are on page 4). That’s been the key to
the growth and excitement that has come to this club:
all the great people who give of their time and energy
to make things happen AND to discover ways to make
membership in the club even more worthwhile to each
one of our members.
So the keys are:
1. Be surrounded by enthusiastic, passionate people
who care.
2. Have a diverse group who have different viewpoints,
but are willing to listen to each other’s perspectives and
then ACT when they come to a workable avenue.
3. Continue to recruit more members into the board
meetings, who will find their niche where they can add
to the club.
4. Don’t take everything too seriously – it’s a club for
fun!
5. Keep smiling!
So although I’m passing those “keys” along to my worthy
successor, I’ll still be around.
And by the way, this isn’t a one-way street. My wife,
Chris, and I have received the great rewards of getting
to meet and know so many new
people. From the board meetings, to the
Huffaker-Hughes Hope House, to the
Sunday Drives, to the DEs, to the Maverick
Monthly Socials, to the parties and
to the annual Porsche Parade, we have
discovered new friendships that will last
the rest of our lives.
I cherish these four years more than
you know. We’ve grown and had a lot
of fun along the way. And guess what?
I’m expecting to have more fun with our
Maverick Region in all the years to come.

Mav of the Month
How does one handle the challenge of an unforeseen
system failure? It’s different, depending upon who has
the responsibility for the program affected. In October
we received a couple of complaints that items ordered
from our on-line “Goodie Store” had not been received,
and that our members were not receiving any replies
to their order inquiries. Fortunately, our Goodie Store
chairperson, Pat Friend, jumped on the situation and
discovered that the vendor had become incommunicado.
Pat immediately contacted our National PCA
and found a possible replacement. With daily communication
and negotiation, Pat got
us a replacement vendor who sent via
overnight shipment the first nine samples
for our board meeting. Situation
resolved!
Thank you, Pat, for being the driving
force that got us back on track within
three weeks. Your perseverance and
persistence really paid off, and your
Maverick Region is in your debt . . . payable
by a gift card to the Silver Fox
Steakhouse in Grapevine. Thank you
and congratulations as our Mav of the
Month!
