Brendan Merry & Partners & New Technology
BMP have always sought to embrace new technologies and provide its clients with the most innovative
services possible. Having made the jump from Buildsoft to Cubit, all surveyors in our practice are now
extremely proficient measuring quantities on screen using 2D and 3D drawings
Information for preparing estimates and bills of quantities are now shared between design team members in
a collaborative manner using many different file formats (i.e. .dwfx, .pdf, .dwg, .rvt, .ifc, etc.)
Damien Morgan and Eoin Casey have both recently completed the Level 2 BIM Workshop for Quantity
Surveyors and continue to implement the procedures and practices with active projects in the office to review
Design Team BIM models and extract quantities. This enables BMP to deliver projects faster, with greater
cost efficiency and provide our Clients with maximum value for money.
COST CONTROL PHILOSOPHY
“Cost control seeks to deliver a high degree of cost certainty during the various stages of a building project in
order that a project can be completed within budget. Successful projects are often viewed as those which are
delivered to the required quality standards, on time, and within budget. Effective cost management therefore
is vital to the successful outcome of building projects. Clients frequently expect the final cost of their project
to be no more than the original estimate and, indeed for many, this may be their main priority.”
Brendan Merry & Partners are very mindful of the above philosophy and believe in delivering value for money
to their Clients by maintaining effective and robust cost control procedures on all building projects. Quantity
Surveyors can make important contributions to the effective management of design costs by providing the
following:-

Realistic early cost advice.
Planning how budgets should be allocated to the various elements of the project.
Actively monitoring the evolving design.
Advising the Client and members of the Design Team of the likely cost implications of their design
decisions.
Proposing solutions where costs appear to be exceeding the approved budgets.
