HOMEOWNERS RESPONSIBILITY 

• To remove mildew or mold from any brick or siding or concrete. 

• “Temporary” coverings (sheets, blankets, etc) must be removed within 

30 days after closing on the sale of your home. Paper foil, cardboard 

or other non-standard window covering materials are prohibited for 

temporary or permanent installations. 

• To kill or pull weeds growing in the expansion joints of your driveway, 

sidewalk or in your flowerbeds. 

• To prune and groom all shrubs and trees on your property. 

• To trim any tree branches that hang low over your sidewalk or into the 

street. The recommended height is up 10 feet from the ground. This also 

enhances the look of your front elevation. 

• To add mulch around trees and in the flowerbeds at least once a year 

or whenever needed.

1. You cannot have a business with machinery, commercial trucks or

FALL FEST 2016 

Over 300 residents came out for the Copper Village Fall Fest. They all enjoyed the train rides, the blow up obstacle course, pony rides, petting zoo, face 

painting, balloon animals and all the great food. There were corn dogs, nachos, cookies, cupcakes and the awesome caramel apple slices as well as 

drinks. Alice Smith got lots of great pictures that are posted on the website. The Board really appreciated the volunteers that helped with the event, 

Rosa Bustamonte, Carole Flynn, Billie Arredondo and Mary Jo Shelor. Again this year, Marian Burke planned and organized the whole event from hiring 

the vendors, to baking the cookies and making the caramel apples and purchasing all the other food. Thanks so much Marian. The event would not 

have happened without you. If anyone is interested in working on or planning future events please let the board know.

COMMUNITY PROJECTS UPDATE 

• The lake path work has finally been completed. We are still trying to 

work out some minor drainage issues in a couple places but the path 

looks great. 

• The Board is reviewing bids for re-staining the wood fence along West 

Rd. and Queenston. Plan to do this work by the end of the year. 

• The new signs for the entrances have been received and should be 

installed by the end of November. (Editor’s Note: Due to deadlines, this 

was submitted before the end of November.) 

• The metal fence around the pool has some spots with bad corrosion. 

The Board is getting bids to repair the damaged areas and have the fence 

repainted. 

• The fall color was installed in the flower beds at the monuments. 

• The board has solicited and is reviewing bids for power washing the 

sidewalks and parking lot for the park areas in the community. 

MUD NEWS 

• The MUD board approved the new tax rate at the October meeting. The 

new rate will be 74 cents per $100 evaluation or about a 5% reduction. In 

addition there will be a $10,000 homestead exemption starting this year. 

For most homeowners MUD taxes should be lower this year despite the 

increases in property values. 

• West Harris County Regional Water Authority (WHCRWA) will increase 

their fee by 20 cents per 1000 gallons starting January 1 st . If you use 

10,000 gallons in a month your cost will go up by $2.

month to make sure your streetlights are working on your block? If they 

are dim or blinking or out, you can help us by going online to: http://

them the vertical numbers listed on the pole and a nearby address and 

then DONE! Centerpoint will come out within 5 days to replace the light.

19 TH ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE STARS GALA 

The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation held its 19 th Annual Salute to the 

Stars Gala in honor of Cypress Fairbanks ISD’s 2015-2016 Spotlight 

Teachers on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at The Berry Center. 

The evening included performances by the Cypress Creek High School 

Drumline and the CFISD District Chamber Choir. Butch Milks announced the 

Spotlight Teachers as Dr. Henry personally thanked each for their dedication 

to the students of CFISD. As they left the stage, Marie Holmes and Lauri Baker 

presented each with a gift and congratulations from the Cy-Fair Educational 

Foundation. Lifelong Cy-Fair resident and Cy-Fair Educational Foundation 

Trustee, Robert Adam, delivered the keynote speech recognizing this year’s 

Spotlight Teachers for their outstanding accomplishments and highlighting 

the Foundation for its contribution to Today’s Students - Tomorrow’s Future. 

Co-Chairs Lauri Baker and Darlene Hajduk presented Dr. Henry with a check 

for $93,025.69 from the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation for innovative staff 

development grants. After a successful live auction, the evening closed with 

the announcement of three lucky teachers who were awarded cash gifts. 

The evening was a tremendous success. The Spotlight Teachers walked 

away with gifts from the Foundation, including the beautiful orchid 

centerpieces and guests were excited to win one of 132 raffle gift baskets. 

Salute to the Stars has raised over $2 million for innovative staff 

development grants for district teachers and instructional leaders, 

and scholarships for graduating seniors. The Cy-Fair Educational 

Foundation was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to 

fund a scholarship for high school graduates in the area. Over the past 

46 years, the Foundation has grown tremendously through the efforts of 

the Board of Trustees and the generosity of the Cy-Fair Community. The 

Foundation has awarded over $7 million in scholarships to more than 

1,400 graduating seniors. CFEF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, all 

contributions are tax deductible as allowed by the law.

SCOUTING NEWS 

COPPER CREEK MEADOWS COMMUNITY 

GIRL SCOUTS OF SAN JACINTO COUNCIL 

What would you call a room filled with super heroes, princesses, witches, 

Dr.Seuss characters and minions? If they were dancing, playing games 

and having a good time, it was probably the Copper Creek Meadows Me 

and My Guy Costume Ball! Copper Creek Community Girl Scouts spent a 

fun evening with their special guys (and a mom or two) at our first event 

of the year. A cake (and goodie) walk and a variety of crafts and games 

in the spirit of Halloween rounded out the evening “What is a Halloween 

celebration without “eyeballs” and “brains” to feel or rats to fling? Or 

“webs” to weave? One dad appeared in an inflatable dinosaur costume, 

another was a “knight” on horseback (as well as the horse). There were 

cute witches and scary witches, ghosts and goblins, Greek Goddesses, 

ancient Egyptians and bumblebees, archers and members of the (comic 

book and movie) Justice League of America. They all looked as if they 

were having a blast. We also held a “Scoutacular “event, to introduce 

girls and their parents to Girl Scouting, with a puppet craft, “edible 

campfires” and songs and games. 

A “Mother Daughter Happy Holiday event for Girl Scouts and their moms 

is planned for December and our Community will also be participating 

in a service project. “World Thinking Day” is returning for another year 

of multi-cultural food and fun, as we “think” about Scouting throughout 

the world. 

We appreciate all those who helped to support our Fall Product sale and 

we would like to thank our Fall Product manager, Paula Jones and all the 

volunteers and girls who participated. If you missed the Fall Product sale 

of nuts and candy don’t forget that, the annual Girl Scout Cookie sale will 

be starting in January! 

New troops have been getting started and existing troops are busy with 

all the many things that Girl Scouts do. Visits to our Council camps for 

camping, canoeing, sailing, archery and horseback riding, are always 

popular. The Program Place offers activities such as “Juliette’s Tea 

Parties” and a museum with Girl Scout uniforms and handbooks and the 

Council has several choirs, the Green Starlettes Dance and Drill Team, as 

well as a variety of special events and programs. 

Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 

18, who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and law. Girls may 

join at any age and no previous Scouting experience is required. Don’t 

forget that older girls, whose busy schedules may not allow for troop 

activities, may join as individually registered Girl Scouts. 

Copper Creek Meadows serves girls in the residence areas for the 

elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle 

and high schools. Home schooled and private school students are 

always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest, Hairgrove, 

Horne, Kirk, Lee, Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Tipps, Wilson, St. 

Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and Christian Life Center.

FUNDRAISERS 

STEPS FOR STUDENTS: A 5K RUN/WALK 

Are you a runner who enjoys family-friendly races? Are you an alumnus 

of a parochial school? Do your children, grandchildren or children of 

friends attend a parochial school? Do you like to have fun with 10,000+ 

plus people? If you answered yes to any of these questions or even if you 

didn’t, the 2017 Steps for Students 5k Race/Walk is for you. Steps for 

Students is a 5k USA Track and Field Association sanctioned race which 

benefits Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. 

Held every year in February, Steps for Students has grown to include 

over 10,000 participants, filling the streets around the Co-Cathedral with 

runners, walkers, families, kids and adults. Each Catholic school in the 

Archdiocese has its own team which you can join or donate to. Race Day 

begins with a sunrise Mass at the Co-Cathedral followed by the race itself. 

In 2017, the race will take a new, East-West direction under I69, but it will 

still begin and end at the Co-Cathedral. Afterward, you can enjoy the Post 

Race Party in the nearby Race Day Village. All donations and registration 

fees (minus a $3 fee) go directly to your designated school, where they 

can be used to help fund scholarships, improve the campus, add to the 

educational experience of the students or whatever is needed or desired. 

If running and getting up early is not your thing, there is even a Snooze 

option. You can also sponsor your favorite runner or school by simply 

making a donation.

February 18, 2017. The sunrise Mass begins at 6:30 AM with the race 

itself beginning at 8 AM. Registration is currently underway, but the 

last day to register at the low price of $15 (which includes a t-shirt) is 

February 1, 2017. After that, registration increases to $25, so register 

early. Steps for Students is a great way to get out, get some exercise, see 

our beautiful city with your own eyes and make some new friends, all the

The Cypress Symphonic Band will present its holiday edition of “Around

PARENTS DAY OUT CHRISTMAS EVENT 

Epiphany Lutheran Church is hosting a Parents Day Out on December 

22 nd from 11 AM-3 PM for children ages 3 yrs (must be completely pottytrained)

Sunday, December 18 th , the Cornerstone Chancel Choir accompanied 

by an orchestra will be presenting a special Christmas music program 

entitled “Night of the Father’s Love” at both the 8:30 and the 10:45 AM 

services. There will be no worship service at 9:35 AM but there will be 

Christian education for all ages available at 9:30 AM. 

Christmas Eve, Saturday, December 24 th , Cornerstone will offer three 

worship opportunities: 4 PM, 6 PM and 11 PM. At 4 PM there will be 

the Family Christmas Service. In addition to the singing of carols and 

Communion, children will be invited to the front of the church to hear 

the Christ Story and receive a special “Christmas” gift from the church. At 

6 PM & 11 PM, there will be a traditional “Candlelight and Communion” 

service. It will include the retelling of the “Birth of Christ” through 

Scripture readings and hymns. All three services will include a “Candle 

Lighting Ceremony” with everyone lighting candles during the singing of 

“Silent Night.” 

Sunday, December 25 th , Cornerstone will celebrate the birth of Christ 

with one service at 10 AM. The service will include a “Favorite Christmas 

Hymn” time giving worshippers the opportunity to pick and choose their 

favorite Christmas hymns from The United Methodist Hymnal to be sung. 

There will also be a special moment called “The Blessing of the Toys.” Dr. 

Dave Meadows will be bringing an inspiring Christmas message. 

In addition, we will have a nursery available for all of our worship 

celebrations except the 11 PM Christmas Eve service. Cornerstone United

EPIPHANY BINGO 

Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side 

since February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every 

Friday night except holidays. THERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED DURING 

ALL BINGO GAMES. They have a jackpot game of $750. Maximum prize

program; parents or other adult guardians should participate with their

THE TITMOUSE CLUB 

The Titmouse Club is a nature program for children ages 2 ½ to 5 

sponsored by the Houston Audubon Docent Guild. The program is

mid-September until mid-May at the Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, 

440 Wilchester Boulevard. Each week features a different nature theme

foster care for our many rescued Dachshunds-in-need, currently 

awaiting adoption. Prior to their adoption, DREAM continues to pay for 

all medical care and monthly heart worm prevention. There is no longterm 

commitment required. Food, water, shelter and a soft place to rest 

is all you need to provide. The “love” just comes naturally.

English. All classes are free because they are taught by caring people just

Cypress Assistance Ministries offers year round adult education classes 

for students 19 years old or older. GED preparation classes are on 

Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-9 PM and ESL classes are on

CYPRESS AREA FOOD PANTRY 

Do you know of someone who has trouble putting food on the table?

GIVE AN HOUR NETWORK 

PROVIDES FREE COUNSELING TO TROOPS AND FAMILIES 

Since September 11, 2001, 1.8 million troops have been deployed in 

Afghanistan, Iraq and the Persian Gulf, with 17 percent of returning troops 

suffering traumatic brain injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder. Given 

the military culture’s emphasis on confidence, strength and bravery, 

many service members are reluctant to expose personal vulnerabilities 

to professional counselors. Give an Hour provides services that are 

separate from the military establishment, offering options to service 

members who might otherwise fail to seek or receive appropriate care. 

Give an Hour is a nonpartisan, nonprofit national network of mental 

health professionals providing free counseling services to returning 

troops and their families. Give an Hour offers services to veterans of the 

wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and their family members. Family members 

are loosely defined to include married or unmarried partners, parents, 

siblings, aunts/uncles—anyone connected to the veteran who is suffering 

a psychological effect related to the veteran’s service. 

Banyan Counseling Network has an office located near the North 

Cypress Medical Center and is trained to provide individual and family 

counseling. Family support groups are also currently forming. People 

interested in receiving services through Give an Hour are encouraged
