HEARTHSTONE GARDEN CLUB 

The ladies of the Hearthstone Garden Club hopes everyone had a wonderful and 

safe Thanksgiving Holiday. Now it is time to finish preparation for Christmas, it 

is right around the corner. There will not be a “Yard of the Month” for December. 

The Yard of the Month Committee will be giving awards for Christmas décor 

on Hearthstone homes. Winners are chosen for Best Homes overall, Best Front 

Doors, Best Mailbox and last year included a Backyard winner for a home on the 

golf course. The winners will be picked on December 5 th . We see some beautiful 

Christmas decorations every year in the neighborhood, get your homes ready!!! 

Christmas in Hearthstone is such a lovely time of the year. 

The Hearthstone Garden Club hosted their 38 th Annual Holiday Auction 

Charity Event on Saturday, November 19 th from 6:30-10 PM at the 

Hearthstone Country Club. Our Auction theme was “Vintage Holidays” 

and it was a big success. If you missed our event, you should mark your 

calendar to attend next year. We had such a wonderful time with friends 

and neighbors at the Charity Auction and appreciate those who joined 

us and helped support our Charities. Thank you to all who donated and 

contributed to our auctions success!!! 

Hearthstone Garden Club members are committed to fostering and 

encouraging civic beautification, thereby bringing about a closer community 

spirit. Since 1998, we have awarded well over $65,000 in scholarships to 

students majoring in Horticulture, Agriculture, Landscape or Architectural 

Design. In addition, we are dedicated and passionate about supporting 

Cypress Assistance Ministries, Woodwind Lake Health & Rehab Center and 

the Brookwood Community. We are now working with some local schools 

promoting knowledge and involvement in gardening and floral arranging. 

We appreciate all the support we received this year and over the last 38 

years at the auction. Our ability to give to our charities means so much and 

anyone contributing should feel the same pride we feel, because you have 

helped someone in need on a local level. 

The Park is Open!!!! We did not realize how much it would be missed, but 

everyone seems thrilled to have it back. Now that the park is complete, the 

garden club will begin working on several areas of beautification in the park. 

For those who are unaware, we have several designated areas which have 

been updated and prepared for us by the HOA. We all look forward to getting 

started on these areas and making the park an even more enjoyable place. 

The Hearthstone Garden Club will not meet in December to take time 

to celebrate the Holiday with our Members. We wish all our friends and 

neighbors a wonderful and safe Christmas and Happy New Year. It is a 

pleasure to be part of our great Hearthstone Neighborhood!

HEARTHSTONE STREET LIGHTS 

The Hearthstone HOA coordinates maintenance of all the streetlights 

throughout the community. This includes the “cobra head” lights like you 

see along many streets and highways, as well as the decorative light poles 

along Huffmeister and in some of the neighborhoods. 

Cobra head streetlights need to be reported to CenterPoint, using the 

pole number, which is the “address” for the light. It is a six digit number 

facing the street. You can report streetlights that are not working or staying 

on during the day at http://cnp.centerpointenergy.com/outage (Google 

streetlight outage) or give us the pole number and we will do it for you.

FRONT COVER 

PHOTOS WANTED! 

We are looking for great photos to use on the front cover of 

your newsletter! Pictures must be high quality (min 300 dpi). No 

cell phone photos allowed. Email photos for consideration to 

news@krenekprinting.com with the name of your subdivision, 

and any credits that should be published with your photo (such 

as a professional photographer.) Names of children and/or adults 

shown on the photo will be included by request only. Although 

not a requirement, we like to use themes each month based on 

holidays, summer, winter, etc. By submitting your photo, you are 

giving permission to use your photo on the cover or inside your 

newsletter, as well as other Krenek Printing publications. 

Deadline for submission is the 5th of each month. The 

next due date will be December 5th for the January 

2017 publications; January 5th for February 2017. 

Outages or problems with decorative streetlights should 

be reported to PCMI at 281-870-0585. Please note the exact 

intersection or closest address. The association has a contractor 

doing a monthly nighttime inspection for lights that are out, but if 

you see a problem, please report it, so we can achieve our goal to 

keep all the lights on all the time. 

TRASH DAYS 

Trash days are Tuesdays and Fridays with recycling pickup on 

Fridays. If you have questions, call 281-368-8397. 

LOST & FOUND PETS IN HEARTHSTONE 

Folks in Hearthstone are very helpful in getting lost pets reunited 

with their owners, but all dog owners should ensure that there is a 

tag on each dog with their name, address and phone number. Local 

pet stores have machines that make tags like this while you wait. At 

least that would help found dogs get back home quicker and with 

less trauma.

Please visit the Association’s website. With a more attractive, easy 

to use design, the site contains a lot of useful information, including 

HOA news, quick reference numbers, free classifieds and a library 

of association forms and documents. If you think of anything you 

would like added, please let us know. The only thing that has not 

changed is the address. It is still at www.hearthstonehoa.org.

Board Meetings are now bi-monthly, usually on the 3 rd Wednesday 

at 7:00 PM. Hearthstone Country Club. 

HEARTHSTONE HOA EMAIL ALERTS 

Just register at the site using “Join our Mailing Lists” on the opening 

page. You will be automatically added to the email group. This 

group will be used to quickly but sparingly, get information out to 

members between newsletters. If you would like these messages 

sent to more than one email address, just register again with each 

address you want included in the group. The addresses will not be 

sold, distributed or used for any purpose other than association 

business. Your address will not even be shared among group 

members. Messages sent to the group will be limited to those 

authorized by the HOA Board of Directors. If you have already 

joined the email group, you do not need to do so again. 

HEARTHSTONE EXTERIOR MODIFICATIONS 

When making any changes to the exterior of your home, please keep in mind that 

you must first submit an application and receive written approval. An application 

can be obtained by sending a request to customercare@pcmi-us.com. The PCMI call 

center is manned by three people. The main number is 281-870-0585. The hours are 

7 AM to 6 PM Monday through Thursday and 7 AM to 5 PM on Fridays.

SAFETY TIPS - AVOID BEING A VICTIM 

1. Call the constable’s office anytime you see a suspicious person and do not 

let race, age or gender influence you calling (a suspicious person is anyone you do 

not recognize on your street). 

2. Call the constable’s office when you see a suspicious vehicle (any vehicle parked 

in front of your neighbor’s home or driving around your street that you don’t 

recognize). 

3. Always keep all your doors and windows locked even when you are at home. 

4. Always keep your overhead garage door in the down position. 

5. Remember neighbors looking out for neighbors are how the police catch the bad 

guys. 

6. Make sure to do a vacation watch whenever you go out of town. 

7. If someone comes to your door, always go to the door and acknowledge that you 

are there and remember to never open the door for anyone that you do not know. 

The bad guys in almost all cases do not want you to be home. Then always call the 

constable’s office so that we can check them out. When they leave your house, they 

are going to your neighbors. 

8. If you have children that stay at home alone, no matter what their age, they 

need to go to the door and have a preplanned story for whoever is there (my dad 

is working on the computer, he says to come back later). Then have them call the 

constable’s office. 

9. Never do business with people you don not know and trust. Never open the 

door for solicitors. If no one in the neighborhood buys anything from them, the 

companies that they work for will quit sending them into your subdivision. 

10. Always lock your vehicles and never leave anything of value in plain sight 

(covering up an item with a jacket doesn’t count).

CYCHRISTIAN PRESENTS SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS ON DECEMBER 8 TH 

The Fine Arts Department of Cypress Christian School will welcome families 

and guests to the annual K-12 Christmas program on December 8 th , at 

Metropolitan Baptist Church, 13000 Jones Rd., Houston, TX. Elementary 

and secondary students will honor the Lord Jesus through drama and 

song at this year’s presentation, Sounds of Christmas. Secondary Warrior 

Choirs will perform followed by the elementary presentation of “A Tree 

Lot Christmas - Joining Jesus’ Family Tree.” Doors open at 6:30 PM. The 

program starts at 7 PM. A simple reception will follow program. The event 

will be livestreamed via CypressChristian.org for those unable to attend. 

CYCHRISTIAN STUDENTS PACK CHRISTMAS BOXES 

Elementary students and middle school National Junior Honor Society 

members of Cypress Christian School participated in the Operation Christmas 

Child project through Samaritan’s Purse. The organization works together 

with churches, schools, youth groups and families to assemble shoe boxes 

filled with various gift items and messages of God’s love. The Christmas boxes 

are wrapped and delivered to children in countries all around the world. This 

year, CCS students packed 147 boxes. Please join students and their families 

to pray for the children who will receive these gifts. 

CYCHRISTIAN DRAMA ONE-ACT PLAY EARNS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP 

The Cypress Christian School cast and crew of “The Diary of Anne Frank” 

competed in the TAPPS Division II-District 4 One-Act Play Contest, held at 

Playhouse 1960. The Drama Department is proud of this group for bringing 

home the district championship as well as many individual awards and 

for qualifying for state competition. Congratulations to the following

The Northwest Flyers Youth Track Club will celebrate its 30 th Anniversary 

Season by hosting its annual free Registration/Orientation breakfast on 

Saturday, February 4, 2017, for all boys and girls who are interested in 

joining for the 2017 track season. The breakfast starts promptly at 8:30 AM 

at the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center Forum located at 6823

athletes to register for the 2017 spring/summer track season and to meet

Lifepath Church is now enrolling for Club T3, our After-School Program for 

grades K-5 th . Club T3 will be every Mon-Fri, 4-6 PM, following the CyFair 

School District Calendar. This is a Faith based program designed to Train, 

Teach and Tutor students with academic enrichment opportunities that 

include tutoring, daily devotions, reading clubs, running, b-ball, dance,

“COVER TO COVER” BIBLE STUDY 

Cornerstone will once again be offering their “Cover-to-Cover: Read the 

Bible in a Year” Bible study. This will be the second year for the church to 

offer this study designed to read and study the Holy Bible from Genesis 1 to 

Revelation 22 in a year. The class will meet at 5 PM every Sunday evening 

continuing through August 2017. A nursery is provided at no cost. Weekto-week 

drop-ins are welcome and the weekly readings will be published

Epiphany Bingo has been conducting bingo games on the west side 

since February 14, 1986. Epiphany conducts their bingo games every 

Friday night except holidays. THERE IS NO SMOKING ALLOWED DURING

prize giveaways of $2,500, allowed by law, are given away every Bingo

STANDUP FOR KIDS 

How would you feel if you saved a kid’s life? StandUp For Kids is an all 

volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk and homeless 

kids through volunteer outreach efforts. Our volunteers search the streets 

in order to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids 

improve their lives. Every day throughout the US thirteen kids die on the 

streets from abuse, disease and suicide. According to recent statistics 

Houston has up to 2,500 kids living on the streets at any given time. Texas 

has the highest rate of homeless youth in the U.S. 

StandUp For Kids needs supplies for our Houston program, which provides 

food, clothing, counseling and a safe environment for the homeless youth

BEAR CREEK COUNSELING CENTER

Bear Creek announces the opening of the Bear Creek Counseling Center 

as a joint ministry of Bear Creek Baptist Church and STCH Ministries 

Family Counseling. This program will seek to offer hope and direction 

for individuals, couples and families when life’s challenges arise. 

All full-time therapists are professionally trained and licensed in the State 

of Texas and offer confidential counseling that is clinically excellent and 

distinctively Christian. Appointments will be held at Bear Creek Church’s

Counseling topics may include marital issues, marriage enrichment, 

parenting challenges, childhood and adolescent struggles, conflict

FRIENDS OF DOWN SYNDROME 

Friends of Down Syndrome, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is very proud 

to open its doors to the “Lifelong Education and Learning Day Program,” which 

services Houston area adults (22-99 years old) with Down Syndrome. Three 

days a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the clients will receive a 

proven educational based curriculum which includes not only Math, Reading, 

Science, Speech, Library and Music, by Certified Specialists, but also, Physical 

Education that will address both physical and dietary needs. Vocational training 

to prepare and assist each person with living skills and outside employment will 

be provided on Tuesday and Thursday. Currently serving 23 clients, Lifelong 

Education and Learning Day Program plans to accommodate up to 60 people 

while maintaining a 10:1 client to instructor ratio. It is conveniently located in 

the 290/34 th street area, less than 2 miles from the northwest corner of Loop

Moms in Motion is a non-denominational organization for expectant

MOMS CLUB OF FAR NORTHWEST HOUSTON 

Ever feel like you are the only one staying at home? Would you like to meet

The Luna Moms Club, powered by Stroller Strides, inspires healthy

CORNERSTONE UMC’S MOMS GROUP 

Looking to make a few new friends and swap stories from life that is 

Motherhood? Cornerstone Moms Group is a refreshingly warm and

MOTHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN (MYC) 

The moment a newborn baby wraps their tiny hand around a parent’s finger 

is a pivotal moment in the life of any parent. The baby not only tugs on the 

finger, but on the parent’s heart as well. It is in that awesome moment that 

the parent begins to understand the unconditional and abounding love 

that God has for each of us. But soon after the little miracle arrives so do all 

the questions and sometimes, without any clear answers. 

The Mothers of Young Children (MYC) group was organized by St. Cuthbert 

Episcopal Church to minister to families with young children throughout 

the Northwest Houston community. Both stay at home and working 

parents are invited to participate in the group. The group supports and 

prays for one another, shares information and ideas on child rearing and 

builds lasting friendships. Most importantly, MYC’s focus is on God and 

God’s presence in families. The MYC ministry includes: 

• Friday morning Bible study at 9:30 AM (childcare provided!) 

• Monthly Kids Night In 

• Mom’s Night Out 

• Playgroups throughout the year 

• Service ministries 

• Online discussion forum 

The MYC group is an exciting ministry filled with open hearts and lots of

Muslim Mommies of Northwest Houston is a faith-based playgroup for 

infants through preschoolers. We meet every Thursday at 10:30 AM at the

other babies. The group is moderated by the Perinatal Coordinator who

GET OUTSIDE WITH HIKE IT BABY 

Hike It Baby is a group dedicated to getting families together and out into 

nature across the Houston area. There are a huge variety of meetups that 

range from urban strolls to trail hikes to playground dates and everyone 

is welcome - moms, dads, caretakers, even grandparents! The hikes are 

volunteer-led and free to participate in; all you have to do is join in the fun!
