“
He’s an outstanding person with great
character and an unbelievable young
man, and that’s why I feel like he’s
only going to get better and better,
because he’s going to be willing to
learn, and he’s one of those guys who
will put the time in.
- Former Louisville Head Coach Charlie Strong
The Eagles first-round draft choice in 2014, Marcus
Smith transformed himself from a dual-threat high
school quarterback to the AAC Defensive Player of
the Year as a senior linebacker at Louisville. A native
of Columbus, GA, the long-armed and athletic Smith
garnered USA Today second-team All-America honors
in 2013 after amassing 14.5 sacks. Originally recruited
to Louisville as a quarterback, Smith made
the switch to the defensive side of the ball as a freshman
and went on to finish seventh in school history
with 24 career sacks.
BIRDSEED
• Volunteers his time to the M2 Foundation, a charity
organization that supports the sustainable transformation
of individuals and the community through
the advocacy of mindful-living. Smith specifically
focuses his efforts on single mothers, as his sister
is a single mom of three children. Follows in the
footsteps of former NFL RB Warrick Dunn who also
assists single-parent families through his Warrick
Dunn Charities organization
• While attending a T.I. performance in Atlanta,
Smith ran into a casting director who initiatied an
unprompted conversation about movie auditions.
After getting some information on the process,
Smith inquired about a role in the 2016 film, Barbershop
3. Smith auditioned for the part and ultimately
landed it, but later declined the offer so that
he could stay in Philly for the weeks leading up to
OTAs. Would like to pursue another movie role at
some point given his positive experience during the
audition period
