ART SHOW 111 - MORE FEATURED ARTISTS

In last weeks article it was promised that more

artists would be featured who are exhibiting at the

ART SHOW 111 at at Desert Patio in Rancho Mirage.

The artists featured in this show are multi

talented and creative in a variety of arts and art

related areas. One artist/designer in particular,

Bruce Tunis, is especially eclectic in his creative

endeavors. His biography includes his training

in art where he attended the former Chouinard

Art Institute in Los Angeles which is now titled

the California Institute of Arts. Bruce has been

influenced by the changing art forms of the past

and current century. Art Nouveau and Art Deco

were particularly influential in developing his

personal style.

Additional work of Bruce Tunis can be viewed on

Bruce’s Web site at www.brucetunis.com

Questions, comments, suggestions, contact at

adamsartexpose.gmail.com

After completing his training at Chouinard he

worked in Los Angeles creating paintings on canvas

as well as interior murals. Before leaving L.A.

he began designing custom dog houses. Now that

he is in the desert he continues his painting and

has added designing and producing folding room

screens and free standing box lamps. His painting

has evolved into a more contemporary look of

which he has examples at the show. One painting

shown in this article is titled,”Last Days of the

Salton Sea” displaying his artistic commentary on

a local issue.

His work can be seen in a variety of locations with

murals at Disney El Capitan and Crest Theaters,

at hotels in Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Las

Vegas all the way to Alaska. He has been featured

in Los Angels Times, Designers West, L.A. Style

Magazine and the Desert Sun.

His work is available to be viewed and purchased

along with the other artist at the 111 Art Show

throughout December, at Desert Patio 70-020

Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage. This show is a

pleasured to view and appreciate a wide variety of

art from local gay artists.

REBEL CELEBRATES ONE YEAR OF ART AT THE BACKSTREET ART DISTRICT

WITH A RETROSPECTIVE OF THIS YEAR’S ARTISTS

Palm Springs, CA. – November 29, 2016 – At the December 7 th Art Walk, REBEL art space

will celebrate one year of Art with a retrospective of all the great artists they have presented

this past year. Highlighting the anniversary show will be the very timely new works of

southern-born international artist Lawrence Wells. Wells’ new works reflect a chilling political

commentary of the isolation of the aristocracy whose vision of the world comes through

computer screens and on smart phones.

Additionally, REBEL will offer special pricing of all the current work in stock. “In these times of

uncertainty and political unrest, we need to remember that art is a language of dissent that is

both powerful and transformative. “We want to make sure that it is affordable to all as well,”

states REBEL gallerist, Melanie Brenner.

About REBEL art space: REBEL art space has been open one year in Palm Springs south

end Backstreet Arts District. REBEL is the collaboration of three longtime friends who share

a love of art along with their Southern Heritage. Kerry Hamilton, Lucius Lamar and Melanie

Brenner have long discussed their vision of a space for new and new to the area artists to be

exposed to the burgeoning art world of the Coachella Valley. The mid-century Backstreet Arts

District is the perfect place to house their gallery.

The Gallery is located at 2604 South Cherokee Way in Palm Springs with plenty of free

parking and beautiful mountain views. Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday from 12 to 4 and by

appointment at (760) 549-1906 or (561) 373-4184. Media requests please contact Kathleen

Bennett at kathleen@resortmktg.com or call (760) 774-7178.

Introduction to the Geology of the

Coachella Valley by Burt Boss

On Thursday, December 15, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., the UCCE Master Gardeners will

present a free class on the fascinating and complex geology of the valley where we

live and garden. The class, an “Introduction to the Geology of the Coachella Valley,”

will be presented by Master Gardener Burt Boss at the Cathedral City Public Library.

Burt’s love for his subject matter and his background as a knowledgeable docent and

experienced hiker in the Coachella Valley shines through in this thoroughly enjoyable

presentation. A flyer with more information is attached.

The cooler days of the desert winter and early spring are a perfect time to explore the

natural oases and other wonders of the Coachella Valley Preserve open 7 a.m. to 5

p.m. through April, 2017 in Thousand Palms. The Preserve is located on the northern

side of the Coachella Valley, at the foot of the Indio Hills. Within the Preserve

is a large, rare desert wetland and two palm woodland oases. You can experience

first-hand some of the effects on the local ecology of the infamous San Andreas Fault

which runs along the Coachella Valley. Water from springs along the fault line feeds

the ponds and creeks within the Preserve and supports the native palms and other

plant life in the oases. Knowledgeable docents give tours of the oases and surrounding

desert on a regular basis. Check the website “coachellavalleypreserve.org” for

directions to the Preserve and information about the times and dates of the scheduled

tours. There is no charge to visit the Preserve; donations are always welcome though.

JERSEY’S JOURNAL by jersey Shore

Facebook. It has its good qualities and

it also has its annoying qualities. There

is a lot of good. And there is A LOT of

annoying. I use Facebook to promote

Jersey Shore, and when I perform. Most

people use it to keep in touch with

friends and family, and some just need

to get approval. MAJOR approval and

they get it. The gay men I see are always

shirtless, flexing away, posing, and Photo

Shopping away. They get tens and tens of

likes and comments galore. Mostly with

the popular reaction of, “Woof ”.

Okay, you post a selfie pic every day. You

make it so you look MUCH better than

you actually do in person. So if you do

meet your Facebook friends, they will do

exactly what I do, but wonder who the

fudge IS that? Facebook is picture city.

Gluttony road for the insecure or the

ones in need of compliments. I get it. We

love to feel accepted, but let it come naturally.

Why do you have to force something

you didn’t earn? A compliment is a

gift. Don’t make me say “Woof ” because

you can position yourself so your gut

disappears, Photoshop the wrinkles so

you look like a ghost, to get that click of a

LIKE or that WOOF. It’s sad in my book.

Let life come naturally. Earn your compliments,

and not for being pretty. Earn

the compliments because you are a stand

up individual. A caring, giving, courageous,

loving, person, not because your

app and Kardashian talent behind the

lens is spot on.

While I’m at it. Do I really need to see

your dinner? I eat mine before the phone

can even come out. Maybe that’s why

my fat ass isn’t taking the infamous half

naked “Woof ” shots. I look the same in

every picture anyway. Plus, it’s Jersey you

want to see anyway.

Peace, Love, and Selfies,

Jersey

THAT IS FUNNY

A little kids sends a letter to Santa that says: “Dear Santa I want a brother for Christmas.” Santa writes

back, “Dear Timmy send me your mommy.”

What is the difference between Tiger Woods and Santa Claus?

Santa stops after three hos.

What do you call a kid who doesn’t believe in Santa?

A rebel without a Claus.

There is a special place in hell for people that play Christmas music before Thanksgiving.

Last year, I asked Santa for the sexiest person ever for Christmas. I woke up in a box.

The 4 stages of life: 1. You believe in Santa Claus 2. You don’t believe in Santa Claus 3. You dress up as Santa

Claus 4. You look like Santa Claus

Christmas Fun facts

Most of Santa’s reindeer have male-sounding names, such as Blitzen, Comet, and

Cupid. However, male reindeers shed their antlers around Christmas, so the reindeer

pulling Santa’s sleigh are likely not male, but female or castrated.

According to the Guinness world records, the tallest Christmas tree ever cut was a 221-

foot Douglas fir that was displayed in 1950 at the Northgate Shopping Center in Seattle,

Washington

Christmas trees usually grow for about 15 years before they are sold.

The world’s largest Christmas stocking measured 106 feet and 9 inches (32.56 m) long and

49 feet and 1 inch (14.97 m) wide. It weighed as much as five reindeer and held almost

1,000 presents. It was made by the Children’s Society in London on December 14, 2007

THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis

Well, it’s been a couple weeks since the

shock of my life, seeing the results of the

Presidential election. Since then I have

seen many posts on social media, articles

in newspapers and many, many phone calls;

including those as a member of the Democratic

National Committee.

The time to mourn and wring hands is over.

Now we organize, debate, fight within the

system and get ready for the battles ahead

and the 2018 midterms. This Tuesday I will

be participating in telephone interviews for

candidates for DNC Chair. Should be very

interesting - and revealing on their vision

for the future of the party.

On Dec 2, I will be traveling to our sister

city of Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. I know our

friends there are very worried about the

future of relations between our countries.

So I will be of course bringing greetings

from Cathedral City, but also speaking to

government groups and Rotary Club members

on how to do business these next few

years. Upon my return, I will attend a meeting

of LGBT elected officials in Washington

to help lay out our strategy for the future -

near and long term.

Once again I want to thank everyone who

voted for me for reelection to the City

Council. I will begin my 23rd year on the

Council on Dec 12th. You are invited to

the swearing in of Mayor Henry, Councilman

Aguilar and myself at 4pm in Council

Chambers

A local issue continuing to percolate in the

valley is marijuana. With Prop 64 passing in

California, how will valley cities react? So

far no real changes. Indio, Rancho Mirage

and Palm Desert have specifically said no

licenses at the present. Coachella still is

allowing cultivation in specified zones, DHS

and Cathedral City are open for business,

except Cathedral City has placed a 45 day

moratorium on new dispensary licenses so

that staff can get caught up. Palm Springs

is looking at expanding cultivation. Seems

like the valley is going to be a strong player

in the field.

Changes are also coming to La Quinta, Palm

Desert and Indian Wells. Three incumbents

were defeated in shocks to valley locals. I

look forward to meeting the new people and

seeing what their policies and issues might

be.
