THE AWARDS.

On February 21st, 2017, the CLASS Bar Awards returns,

celebrating the achievements, talent and diversity of the UK

bar trade with a not-to-be-missed cocktail party and

ceremony.

Since 2003, the Awards has built its reputation as the UK

bar industry’s most important celebration. This year features

a new line up of award categories to recognise the bars and

bartenders that set the standard for hospitality and

innovation across the UK.

A CLASS Bar Award represents the ultimate accolade for

bartenders and bars. Our rigorous judging process is

designed to uncover the top talent working in the industry

today.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARDS

For our special recognition awards, bars and bartenders are

invited to submit their entries free of charge, to be judged by

an esteemed panel of renowned industry judges. The

categories available to enter are:

• Back Bar Star of the Year

• Front of House Star of the Year

• Social Media Initiativeof the Year

• Emerging Bartender of the Year

• Bar Manager of the Year

To enter, simply read through the entry criteria on the

following pages and submit a written submission of up to

500 worlds explaining why you should win and addressing

some of the points outlined in the awards criteria.

CLASS COLLECTIVE

For our bar categories, we assembled the CLASS Collective;

a hand-selected group of 100 of the top bartenders and

drinks professionals in the UK. They are asked to lend their

expert voices to determine those bars that have made the

most significant contribution to the UK bar industry over the

past 12 months.

Winners will be decided in the following categories;

• Bar Food Menu of the Year

• Restaurant Bar of the Year

• Hotel Bar of the Year

• New Bar of the Year

• Bar of the Year

• Cocktail of the Year

THE JUDGING PROCESS

A CLASS Bar Award represents the ultimate accolade for bartenders and bars. Our

rigorous judging process is designed to uncover the top talent working in the industry

today. Bars and bartenders are invited to submit their entries free of charge, to be

judged by an esteemed panel of renowned industry judges. All bars shortlisted for a

category are invited to the awards ceremony as our guests.

3. CLASS BAR AWARDS. 2017

HOW TO ENTER.

1. It’s FREE to enter as many relevant categories as you

wish.

2. Complete the Entry Form by ticking a box for each of the

categories you wish to enter.

3. Please follow the entry criteria per category. Judges will

score each submission based on its criteria, so please

ensure you address this to increase your chances of

winning.

4. Entries should be supported by a written submission of

up to 500 words explaining why you should win.

Concise information will enable our judges to easily

understand your achievements.

5. Entries can be supported alongside any of the following

supplementary materials; web links, photographs, drinks

menus, food menus, illustrations and marketing materials.

These must all be received by the stated deadline. Please

note that all supplementary material will not be returned.

6. Any supporting images should be supplied in colour

with both high resolution and low resolution jpg files.

Please send up to 15 photographic images to support

your entry. Any videos should be no longer than 3

minutes and be sent using a link.

7. All information submitted in your entry is held in strict

confidence and used for judging purposes only. Judges

are required to sign confidentiality agreements before

receiving any judging packs.

In entering any of the award categories, you

may want to cover some of the following

points, though you are free to supply any

information you think relevant (providing figures

that show how effective actions have been will

improve your chances):

BACK BAR STAR OF THE YEAR

Barbacks are the building blocks of a great bar.

This demanding role can often be overlooked,

but the best bar backs are attentive, organised,

resourceful and hardworking in this pressing

and supportive position. The winner will

showcase examples of how their work

contributes to the success of the speed,

functionality and quality of the bar operation.

• What organisational skills do you bring to

your current job role?

• How does your contribution improve the

speed, quality and efficiency of the bar

operation?

• What is the most challenging aspect of your

role and how do you overcome it?

• Why are you a successful barback? What

are your strengths?

• How have you contributed to the quality of

the customer’s experience?

FRONT OF HOUSE STAR OF

THE YEAR

This award acknowledges talent on the other

side of the bar. Hosts, maitre d’s, waiters and

waitresses are at the front of the customer’s

experience. We are in search of a star who

consistently demonstrates high service

standards and has a true understanding of

hospitality.

• How many guests do you host on a busy

night?

• How have you contributed to the quality of

the customer’s experience?

• What skills do you possess that enable you

to connect with customers?

• How do you overcome and deal with

difficult situations?

• What organisational skills do you bring to

your current job role?

• How does your contribution improve the

speed, quality and efficiency of the bar

operation?

• Why are you a great host?

• Why should you win this award?

SOCIAL MEDIA BAR

INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR

This award celebrates a UK bar that has

demonstrated the most effective use of social

media as part of their marketing strategy. We

are in search for the bar that has implemented

creative and engaging ways to promote their

business through social media platforms which

has had a positive impact on increasing their

customer base.

• Why did you decide to promote your bar

through social media?

• What is your social media objective?

• How do you engage with followers through

social media?

• Have you implemented any campaigns to

drive new business?

• How do you use social media to promote

new or seasonal drinks menus?

• How often do you post on social media?

• What do you promote as your USP to bring

the customers into your bar?

EMERGING BARTENDER OF

THE YEAR

This award recognises new talent in the

bartending industry to an individual who has

brought a fresh perspective to their job

performance with new and innovative ideas,

knowledge and understanding of craft cocktail

practices and techniques. Bartenders must have

launched their career in the past three years.

• Why did you want to start a career in

bartending?

• What motivates you about the bar

environment?

• What do you want to achieve in

bartending?

• What techniques and skills have you

developed?

• Do you have any notable achievements?

• Have you made significant and

demonstrable contributions to your bar in

the past 12 months?

BAR MANAGER OF THE YEAR

Bar Managers play a crucial role in setting

standards, implementing innovative strategies,

creative ideas and setting the best examples of

superior customer service skills. Our winner will

have showcased fine leadership skills, their

initiatives to achieve results, how they improved

performance, motivate their team and

ultimately better the customers’ drinking

experience.

• By entering the CLASS Bar

Awards, the entrant will be

deemed to have read and

understood these terms and

conditions and to be bound

by them. These terms and

conditions include any

instructions set out with the

entry form.

• The organiser reserves the

right at its absolute discretion

to reject any entry that it

deems inappropriate.

• Entries will only be accepted

if they are submitted on the

entry form completed in full

and accompanied by the

required entry information.

• Submissions should relate to

activity during the eligibility

period of December 1st 2015

to December 1st 2016.

• The organiser reserves the

right to change the categories

and judging panel without

prior notice to entrants.

• Entries must be signed by the

person responsible for

submitting the entry and to

whom all correspondence

concerning the awards should

be addressed.

• Responsibility cannot be

accepted for any lost, late or

mislaid entry and any entry

which is damaged, defaced,

illegible or incomplete, or

which otherwise does not

comply with these terms and

conditions may be deemed

invalid at the sole discretion of

the organiser.

• All materials submitted with

the entry will become the

property of the organiser.

• The awards will be judged by

a panel of judges selected by

the organiser. The judges will

select category finalists based

on the criteria set out in the

entry form.

• The organisers reserve the

right to alter the judging panel

and categories without prior

notice to entrants. In all

respects, the judging decision

is final.

• The judges may decline to

make an award for any

category if in their opinion the

entries are no entries worthy

of award standard.

• The decision of the Chairman

of the Judges on all matters

affecting this competition is

final and legally binding.

• No correspondence will be

entered into.

• Finalists will be notified within

14 days of the shortlist being

confirmed.

• Category finalists will only be

offered three complimentary

places per bar or venue at the

awards ceremony taking

place on Tuesday 21st

February 2017.

• There will be one award

winner selected from the

finalists in each category,

who will each receive a

trophy which will be

announced at the awards

ceremony.

• Winners may be required to

take part in some post-event

publicity and consent to their

name and photograph being

used for such purposes.

• Details of the winners will be

published in the Spring issue

of Class magazine, published

March 2017.

• Entrants consent to the

publication by the organiser

in connection with the awards

of any of the documents or

materials constituting their

entry. Participants consent to

their names and photographs

to be used in any competition

publicity.

• Any winner may publicise the

award providing the year in

which it was won is stated.

The organiser licences any

winner to use the awards logo

in connection with its award

until February 20th 2018.

• By entering the awards all

entrants will be deemed to

have accepted and be bound

by the rules and consent to the

transfer of their personal data

to the data controller for the

purposes of the administration

of the awards and any other

purposes to which the entrant

has consented.

• These terms and conditions

shall be governed by English

Law and the Courts of

England shall have exclusive

jurisdiction.
