Those attending the Annual Celebration could vote
for three photos for a People’s Choice Award. The winners

As the contest organizer for this year, I had the first
opportunity to look at all the entries, a task I thoroughly
enjoyed (this offset the disadvantage of being
unable to submit my own photos). Many of the entries
came with the story behind the photograph, adding another
interesting dimension to my task. Unfortunately,
those stories couldn’t go to the judges or the Annual
Celebration display as the risk of detracting from the
photographs; maybe next year we can find a creative
way to include them!
Thanks to all who participated by sending in entries
and the dedicated group of volunteers who made the
contest possible. Among the volunteers in addition to
the judges were Charlie Davis who advised me each
step of the way and did the printing, Dee Luxbacher
who assisted in the mounting and Tracy Robertson who
organized the display at the NYLO Hotel.
Rules for the next contest will go up on the Maverick
Region website in a month or so, including more information
on pixel count with the goal of no rejected entries.
Given the preponderance of cell phone entries
this year (the best camera is the one you have with
you!), we will be creating a separate class for those entries
and reducing the number of or modifying the
categories. Start thinking about your best shots now!
