will be joining us to wrap up our study on January 29.
Interfaith Dialogue: Exploring World Religions
February 12-26
How would you define “religion”? The five major religions we will examine
are Judaism, Chrisanity, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism. Join us as we clarify
major similaries and important differences among and within the
world’s religions. This study will provide an excellent opportunity to explore
diverse systems of belief as well as deepen our faith in Jesus Christ, our
Lord and Savior.

The Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, known to some as “the Jewish
Bible,” tells the stories of ancient Israel, conveys the message of the prophets,
and includes poec texts that express joy, despair, and hope. The
plotlines of this sacred collecon help trace the tensions that arise from
ancipaon and disappointment, conflict and reconciliaon—and what it
all has to do with us.

Facebook Small Group Study
Lent 2017
Join Pastor Keith and others this Lent in
a Facebook small group! You will encounter,
explore and be equipped by
Christ all from the comfort of your
couch.
We will begin with a screening of the
2016 revised video, “Everything is Spiritual,”
by pastor and author Rob Bell.
Then we will read and ponder the provocave,
unique, and inspiring wisdom
of Pastor Bell’s first published book,
“Velvet Elvis: Repainng the Chrisan
Faith.”
In our Facebook small group studies we
will be given a weekly video summary
from Pastor Keith, plus you will have an
inmate and confidenal space to build
relaonships with others*, ask ques-
ons, and grow in your faith. All while
wearing your PJ’s and slippers!
*The expectaon is that small group par-
cipants will meet together face to face
at the beginning and at the conclusion of
the study.

People of all ages and stages in faith and life are invited to
gather on Thursday mornings to explore the Bible verses
that will be preached on in the upcoming Sunday and Monday
worship service. Each week we will learn about the context,
history, and meaning around these Bible verses and
how these verses may be speaking to us today. Aer we
gather in discussion, it will be fun to hear how the pastors
preach about the Bible verses we have explored together.
You need not be a Bible expert to parcipate—just a desire
to grow in faith, explore the Bible together, and have fun.
Women’s Friendship Circle

concerns for others and ourselves, pray, delve into the
Bible study found in Gather magazine. They celebrate
“highs” and extend compassion for the “lows,” and

Baptism Classes
First Monday Night of Each Month at 7:30pm
Bapsm classes prepare parents, children & adults for bapsm.
The purpose of the bapsm class is to explore the meaning of bap-
sm, to walk through the bapsm service and to help equip parents
to pass on the faith to their child. Parents are required to
aend a bapsm class prior to their child's bapsm into the Chris-
an Faith at Word of Peace.
If you have already aended a bapsm class at Word of Peace for
another child, you do not need to aend again. To register, visit

Retreats and Special Events
Encounter Stillness: Adult Hermitage Retreat
Situated in some of the most beauful acreage of Minnesota,
Pacem in Terris is a facility and organizaon dedicated to providing
guests with an opportunity to encounter sllness in its sanctuary
of silence and solitude, where riches beyond the human
imaginaon await the open heart. It is here that you will detach
from the busyness of the world for a while and become one with
Christ.
Each guest is prayerfully assigned a cabin, or what is referred to
at Pacem in Terris as a “hermitage,” in which they will unplug,
unwind, and be changed through silence and solitude, or what
author Henri Nouwen called “the furnace of transformaon.”

A Women’s Retreat
Friday, February 3-5, 2017
Women of all ages are invited to aend Word of Peace’s 2017 Women’s Retreat at
the beauful Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo, Minnesota. This weekend is for
women to gather, be sll, and grow in faith. We will explore God’s abundant life that
we find in the book of John. Krisn Skare, Karee Van De Riet, Megan Moen, Pam
Baumgartner, Marilee Maxwell, and Carrie Fischer are your retreat leaders.
Do you want to come but you are concerned that you don’t know anyone? Never
fear! We will pair you up with a roommate and our team will make you feel as comfortable
as possible.
Christ the King Retreat Center

Exploring Christ in Culture
Exploring Film
Are you a movie buff? Join Pastor Keith for this new and
innovave study of faith meets culture. Once a month
we’ll watch a movie together and pracce how to see
movies using a lens of faith. We’ll gather aerwards for
conversaon, beverages and fellowship at Le Bar, housed
in the one-of-a-kind St. Michael Theater. Stay tuned for
more details! This study is suitable for ages 17 and older.
Exploring Literature
Do you always have your nose in a book? Coming this
summer, join Pastor Keith for the all new Adult Ed book
club as we read Parker Palmer’s “The Promise of Paradox:
A Celebraon of Contradicons in the Chrisan Life.” At
least once a month we’ll gather in person for fellowship
and discussion of this book and other topics at a local
coffee shop or diner. All are welcome to parcipate. Stay

Our resoluons fade, but God’s promises last forever
January 8/9 - February 19/20
Every year we vow to make changes to our diet, exercise habits,
or lifestyle, but in spite of those resoluons, most things stay
the same. This may be cause for disappointment, but there is
some consistency we can celebrate. God’s promises to us do no
change with the calendar or the latest fitness trend. Rather than
focusing our energy and aenon on making promises to ourselves,
let’s spend the first part of the new year appreciang

Lent Worship Series—March 1 - April 2
What would happen to the church of Jesus Christ if a majority
of those who claim to love Jesus fully understood what that actually
meant? This Lenten season, join us as we explore the essenals
of following Jesus (aka “discipleship.”) Let’s build our
lives in Christ together, exploring the faith foongs of repentance,
trust, jusce, obedience, and generosity and discover
anew how Christ encounters and equips His church for the wellbeing
of all people.
This series is based on “Discipleship Essenals: A Guide to Building
your life in Christ” by Greg Ogden and is encouraged for individual
