1. General Information

Klimatec Combination Air Heaters are employable for

universal wall and ceiling installation.

The amount of units to be installed is dependent on the

air and heat requirements, and the local conditions. The

higher the amount of units the more even heat can be

distributed.

When using combination air heaters with an outside air

supply a shutter system must be installed to avoid

unnecessary heat losses when the blower is not running.

In order to avoid the transfer of vibrations onto other

building elements, a flexible connector has to be installed

when connecting to the outside air through walls or roofs.

With combination air heaters (ceiling installation) the

blower sits above the heat exchanger. During blower idle

times the uprising convection heat can have negative

effects on the motor. For this reason a motorised shutter

has to be installed, or the heating circulation system has

to be interrupted with a solenoid valve, when the heating

fluid temperature of the heating water controlled system

reaches levels above 150 °C (Abb.1).

The water circulation may be controlled with a thermostat

controlled return admixture. The system may be designed

as a room temperature regulation or as an outside air

dependent control system.

Combination air heaters, that are running on steam energy

offer limited regulation capabilities only. These units should

be regulated via the air system and not by regulating the

steam circulation system.

Combination air heaters, that are running with outside air

should be combined with antifreeze monitoring units in

order to protect the system from freezing.

2. Delivery

The units (supply unit and exhaust unit) in the sizes 1

and 2 are shipped in card board boxes, size 3 under card

board covers, size 4 is delivered on pallets.

Accessories are delivered in card board boxes or on pallets

depending on the order.

3. Transportation

The unit and their accessories may be transported with

hand truck, fork lift or crane.

When moving the unit with a crane the unit has to be

secured against tipping (Abb. 2)

Never lift the unit by attaching to the blower motor.

4. Assembly

4.1 Installation, suspension, roof opening

The accessories are delivered separately and must be

assembled on site.

The required fasteners are part of the shipment (Fig. 3)

The complete unit has to be levelled exactly in horizontal

and vertical direction.

Appropriate space for maintenance work (i.e. heat

exchanger, filter) has to be considered. At least 1 x depth

of the unit!

The basic unit is equipped with M 10 tapped holes for the

installation and/or suspension.

The roof opening is to be aligned and installed vertically

and independent from the roof pitch, and then lagged down

with angle brackets (on both sides). The sealing should

be performed by a specialised company using lead

shingles, roofing felt or plastic foil.

The cowl (dome) is lagged down with 4 zinc galvanised

screws over the roof opening. We recommend the usage

of a sealing cord or silicone.

Special notes for

Steam powered units – ceiling installations

When using steam powered combination air heaters only

steel heat exchangers should be installed!

For each unit the steam trap must be equipped with a

thermal steam trap or a float steam trap with venting

capabilities (Fig. 9).

The connecting cross sections must not be decreased.

The height difference between condenser connection

(steam outlet) and steam trap should be appr. 0.8-1.0 m

(Fig. 9).

Combination air heaters that are running on steam energy

offer limited regulation capabilities only. These units should

be regulated via the air system and not by regulating the

steam circulation system.

4.2 Connection to drainage system

Do not extend the flexible connector to its maximum length

during the installation. We recommend: Extended length

minus 10 mm. If you run much shorter than this

measurement, you will have a decrease in cross section

which results in an efficiency decrease.

4.3 Heat exchanger

For the heat transfer we use either air heaters made from

copper-aluminium, that run on water and air heaters made

from steel, that are running on water, steam, or thermo

oil. The air flow direction may be horizontal or vertical.

The piping installation has to allow for good access to all

openings and operator doors in order to perform

maintenance work and repairs without any difficulties.

Important!

No piping, and electrical wiring, or similar equipment may

be attached to the units.

The connection of supply and return lines must be

performed in a way, that no vibrations and tensions are

induced.

The installation has to be prepared for venting and draining

of the air heaters and piping systems.

ATTENTION!

The threaded connections of the copper-aluminium air

heaters must be kept from turning when connecting the

supply and return lines.

We recommend the installation of a dirt collector in the

supply line to avoid sediments from collecting in the heat

exchanger.

Air heaters, that are running in an outside air environment

or with air temperatures below 0°C, must be protected

against freezing.

When the circulation pump is turned off the heat exchanger

is subjected to the danger of freezing.

– Drain the heating system!


4.4 Motor adjustment

The mixing air box, the shutters, and the exhaust unit

are actuated by a servo motor made by Belimo, SM...

and NM..., for Ex-design made by Schischek

If you are using a Belimo servo motor you may obtain

information on the assembly and function of the Belimo

servo motor from the assembly instructions which are

supplied by Belimo.

- Attach the anti-rotation device with two sheet

metal screws

to the housing.

- Mount the servo motor to the shutter shaft.

- Tighten the clamping screws of the retainer bracket.

- Finish the assembly and adjustment according to

the Belimo assembly instructions.

- Connect all electrical wiring according to the wire

diagram

or connection scheme.

4.5 Exhaust vents for preheating control (Fig. 11)

Adjustment of the shutter servo motor (Fig. 12)

The exhaust vents are delivered with a pre-assembled

shutter servo motor.

When starting up or preheating, the shutters have to be

positioned in a way, that the air flow is directed downwards.

The shutters are positioned automatically in operating

position after the required temperature is reached.

The end positions of the shutters are adjustable and can

be set with the 2 mechanical stops within the motor

housing.

(Fig. 12 and Belimo assembly instructions).

4.6 Antifreeze monitor

The antifreeze monitor has to protect the combination air

heaters from freezing when operating with outside air.

Function:

Drops the outside air temperature below a pre-set value,

the heat exchanger has to be supplied with heat and the

blower has to be turned off.

Assembly:

- Unroll the capillary tube and stick it through the hole

in the side-frame.

- Attach the housing with sheet metal screws. (Fig. 13)

- Attach the anti-frost sensor with the clip.

- Run the connecting cable into the motor wire box

and connect it according to the wire diagram.

5. Electrical installation

Follow all local regulations and the wiring diagam which

is shipped with the unit when wiring up the equipment.

5.1 Blower drives

- External rotor motor 400 V three-phase current

2 or 3 stages

- External rotor motor 230 V alternating current

System of protection IP 54, insulation class F.

The motors which are running on 400 V three-phase current

or 230 V alternating current are fully protected with thermal

relays. The installed full motor protection monitors

directly the winding temperature. The system turns the

unit off once the winding temperature exceeds the

allowable temperature of 155°C. Since the motor

protection is independent from the current consumption,

each motor is fully protected even when the system is

configured in multiple series.

ATTENTION!

Only control units of type LW...ex may be used. Control

units should not be installed in explosion endangered

areas.

Note

The addition of ducts, and dust filters and so on does

not create a motor overload. Drive motors are wired to

the wiring box or Rep.-switch, which are mounted to the

side frame of the basic unit.

5.4 Control units in modular design

Control units are designed in modular plastic design for

wall installation.

We offer 6 models:

- LW 3202/LW 3203 for 2 or 3-speeds

- LW 3202/LW 3203 AH for 2 or 3-speeds

with additional control for preheating control.

- LW 3202.ex1 for motors in Ex-design

Air circulation operation

- LW 3202.ex2 for motors in Ex-design

Outside air operation

The speed adjuster is also the On-Off-switch.

The system is designed in a way, that the unit can not

restart on its own once the full motor protection trips and

after power loss is initiated through the control relay. To

restart the system after a power loss the main switch

has to be turned to the “O” position (Fig. 14) or the system

has to be equipped with the optional automatic restart

feature. For the operation with Ex-protected motors the

2-stage control units LW 3202.ex1 for circulation units or

LW 3202.ex2 for circulation units and outside air units

(for Open/Close air mixing control) must be installed.

interrupt the blower operation, the blower restarts

automatically. The mixing air box is actuated by a shutter

servo motor, and with a switch you may select between

“Circulation” and “Outside air” or continuously adjust the

air mixing shutter by hand. When operating in “Outside

air Operation”, and in case of frost danger the motor is

reversed automatically to close the shutters. The air mixing

shutter remains in the respective position when the room

temperature control turns off the blowers.

The shutter works fully automatic. The shutter opens

when the blower is running and closes when the blower

does not operate. In case of power loss the shutter

remains in the current opening position.

The external room thermostat with sequential contact

determines the operating level which is required by the

current room temperature. The restart after a motor fault

and power loss is made by zeroing the On/Off switch.

5.Room thermostat SRE 2:

The speed preselection is made manually. The external

room thermostat switches the attached units with the

preselected speed stage on and off. The restart after a

motor fault and antifreeze shutdown is made by setting

the speed selector back to zero, after power loss the

system restarts automatically.

5-stage-speed controller according to VDE 0100/0660,

system of protection IP 54, for a max. current consumption

Maintenance

6. Maintenance

Prior to any work performed on the unit the system has

to be powered down.

Antifreeze equipment – antifreeze fluid or antifreeze

monitor – check annually!

In case of freeze damage no guarantee claims can be

made!

The filter is designed to clean the air. A regular filter check

is very important and requires special attention.

A soiled filter influences the air flow and should be cleaned

or replaced regularly.

After removing the service cover the air filter can be pulled

out easily. The exchangeable, and reusable filter mats

(according to quality class EU 3) may be cleaned by

batting, vacuuming or washing them in a mild detergent

and warm water.

Do not wring-out the filter mats!

Use dry filter mats only.

We recommend to replace the filter mats after reusing/

washing them two or three times.
