Welcome
The Bellingen Shire is a very
special place. Originally home
to the Gumbaynggirr people,
it’s part of the Gondwana Rainforests
of Australia - A World Heritage Area.
The region is blessed with rare and
beautiful natural attractions. The Shire
is also perfect for family holidays
as there is so much to do at very
little cost.
The Shire’s three main communities
are Dorrigo, Bellingen and Urunga.
Each offer a unique experience
for visitors.
Dorrigo has a vibrant town centre
that is evolving with a strong arts
flavour. Explore spectacular Dangar
Falls - only 2kms away from the town
centre. Dorrigo Rainforest Centre has
one of the best Visitor Centres in the
National Park Network. The Centre
is the gateway to Dorrigo National
Park and its famous Skywalk. Explore
all the wonders that this ancient
rainforest offers.
The heart of the Shire, Bellingen
is famous for its natural beauty, it’s
bohemian past, a full calendar of
festivals and events and its strong
sense of community. Bellingen
Community Markets is recognised
as one of the best markets on
the East Coast. Enjoy the town’s
chilled out vibe, its fabulous cafes
and make some time to visit
the Bellinger River and the Old
Butter Factory. In the centre of
town, Jarret Park is a great place
for picnics, play, swimming, and
relaxing by river.
Urunga is located on the coast
– overlooking the spectacular
mouths of the Bellinger and Kalang
Rivers. The town provides access
to over 40kms of waterways. This
aquatic paradise offers so many
shades of blue and is perfect for
boating, fishing, swimming, and
kayaking. The Urunga Boardwalk
is a must for visitors.
Just north of Urunga is Mylestom,
a quiet riverside village on the
banks of the Bellinger River. South
of Urunga is Hungry Head, home to
Urunga Lifesaving Club and entry to
kilometres of stunning beaches.
Don’t forget that the Bellingen Shire
is part of the Coffs Coast. Coffs
Harbour, Sawtell and Nambucca
Heads are only minutes away. Each
centre offers unique experiences
with stunning natural attractions.

air travel to major destinations
across Australia.
