2016 MOBILE AREA WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS JANUARY 24 HARD FREEZE The mercury dropped to 25˚ at the Mobile Regional Airport, the coldest temperature of the 2015-2016 winter. MARCH 11 HEAVY RAIN A stalled low pressure system over Texas produced a strong surge of Gulf moisture accross the central Gulf Coast on March 11. A daily record of 4.25” of rain fell at the Mobile Regional Airport. JUNE 25-26 EXCESSIVE HEAT The hottest two-day period of the summer occurred on June 25-26 when highs of 97˚ and 96˚ were recorded at the Mobile Regional Airport. SEPTEMBER 19-26 HEAT WAVE A late-season heat wave produced eight consecutive days of highs in the 90’s. The mercury reached 95˚ on the 24th setting a record for the date. SEPTEMBER-NOVEMBER DROUGHT Rain failed to occur at the Mobile Regional Airport in October. This was the second rainless month in Mobile weather history matching the rainless month of October 1874. In fact, rain was not observed for 42 consecutive days from September 27 through November 7 tying the old record set in 1874. Two record highs were tied when the mercury reached 89˚ on October 20 and 88˚ on October 31. However, new daily records were established when a high of 87˚ occurred on October 30 and November 3 and 88˚ on November 4.
