Matthew was located off the Florida east coast just north of Cape Canaveral. At the time of this image, Matthew was a Category 3 hurricane with peak winds of 120 mph. Photo by Mary Hattler – Mobile Register Twenty years ago in mid-July Hurricane Danny developed along the Louisiana coast. The storm then slowly tracked to the east and moved into Mobile Bay where it reached its greatest intensity. Danny is best remembered for the torrential rains that fell around and over Mobile Bay. More than 3 feet of rain was measured at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab where hurricane force gusts occurred for many hours. Danny then moved to the northeast producing 2 feet of rain across Baldwin County where severe flooding and erosion took place. The severity of the erosion can be seen in the above photo taken in Daphne. - 22 - Over 29 Years of Service On The Eastern Shore - 23 -
